Poll
Who will be the better pick at the end of the year?
Only registered users are allowed to vote for this poll.
12 votes were received.
Dion Jordan 9

75%
Lane Johnson 3

25%

Lane Johnson is rated as the best run blocking tackle in the league after two weeks.

Dion Jordan has a (meaningless) sack since we were penalized for a face mask and had only a handful of snaps last week.

It seems that Johnson would have proven to be a better player out of the gate and may have paid off initially. The jury is still out on the long run.

We could use him on the line right about now. Clabo is sucking.

As of today it looks like the better picks in the 2013 draft would have been (T) Lane Johnson and (G) Larry Warford at 3 & 54 as far as needs.

Jordan is going to have to turn out to be one hell of a DE for this pick to be worthy. We have no clue about Taylor yet. I'm not saying he (Jordan) won't be good or great....just AS OF NOW...this team would get better use of a tackle.

I think we will have a better idea by midseason.

Can't see drafting a RT that high -- LT OK. We could have gone RT in R2 -- that's a more viable debate IMO.

isn't Lane Johnson a LT not RT?

in hindsight, best thing would've been trading down, and taking a guy like eifert, and then with one of our multiple 2d round picks taken a decent OL and not a typically horrible Ireland/Oline/3d round pick like Dallas Thomas who probably won't see the field this year, if ever.

I think Jordan will end up being a good player but he was kind of a luxury given our strentgh at that spot and our other needs.

Johnson is playing RT but he is viewed as a LT. He played TE and DE at Oklahoma but switched to RT and started every game his junior year. He started 11 of 13 games at LT his senior year. Former HS QB.

In reality I don't see Martin ever being a top quality left tackle.

I don't believe there were any tackles taken in the second round that are starting. Menelik Watson was taken with the pick we traded to the Raiders but we wouldn't have had that pick anyway. Watson just had surgery and is out for at least another month.

So taking a tackle (from 2nd round) that could start was not really an option. David Bakhtiari is starting (4th round) but only because of injury.

If you can come in as a rookie and lead the league in a category like run blocking efficiency....it's pretty impressive IMO. I'm not sure where he ranks in pass blocking.

The Eagles didn't think #4 was too high for a RT....Jason Peters is playing LT. Probably because he is the future RT.

If you ask..."where are our weak points"? its obviously on the o-line and that is about it at this point. Just think how good we would be right now with LJ instead of DJ.

That being said I still think Jordan will be a good player. I just don't know if he will be in the Von Miller/Aldon Smith category. VM had 4 sacks after 4 games as a rookie and 6 sacks after 6 games. Immediate impact player (albeit a cheater). Aldon Smith had 6.5 sacks after 7 games.

DJ should have had 2 sacks after 2 games but forgot we were playing tackle and not 2 hand touch vs Andrew Luck

Honestly, 2 sacks in the very few snaps he's played is pretty good

2 sacks is very good for his limited snaps....Huge potential on this kid..

Just needs experience and more playing time and needs to stay healthy and the sky is the limit.

Ireland & Co obviously felt DJ was a superior impact player and if (??) the shoulder issue goes away -- and stays away -- I think it will be VERY difficult to argue against the pick.

DJ has a skill-set and overall play making package that's precisely what's needed nowadays to disrupt opposing offenses.

Should have is not the same as HAVE. smiling smiley The one (missed) looked like a stunt or a blitz up the middle. The other one vs Cleveland, Weeden basically ran right to him after way too long to get rid of the ball...looked like a coverage sack. I want to see him line up at weak side DE and actually beat the LT. That would be a better gauge of his abilities IMO.

Again...jury still out and it's real early.

No. I don't think the "jury is still out."

The kid has shown me plenty to conclude he's a player.

Like I said -- IF the shoulder issue is in the past.

But of course the stat dweebs need "mathematical" evidence -- as if football is a game played by statisticians and bean counters.

OMG. What fun that would be...

We should have stayed at #12 and drafted Tyler Eifert

So far -- Clay is the BIG emergence on the roster.

Of course some would say Thill -- but that's a given.

Clay has a kind of freaky skill set -- and if he puts it ALL together -- he's a future ALL PRO IMO.

Plus the kid seems so grounded and has his head (seemingly) in very good place. That -- and our TE coach is probably our future OC and maybe a HC down the line. Yep. He's that good.

My opinion. Of course.

BNF.

Put Clay at fullback and bring back the days of Jim Brown.

clay's career rushing yards are 1 carry for 1 yard. I'll leave him at TE/HB.

The best word to describe clay is......."Surprise"

He flashed some potential last year but all of a sudden disappeared.

He is even blocking well.....which is one of the things the coaches were waiting for him to do. Block.
