We are carrying 11 DB's right now because Taylor and Davis are both hurt enough not to practice.
We don't need a 5th WR unless one of the top 4 guys gets hurt so we should be OK for one game like this.
Frankly, I think its a lot of risk/work to protect a guy like Don Jones but whatever. Its not like any terrific options at WR or TE shook lose with cuts this week.
Now its possible that some veterans get cut this week in the hopes they can be re-signed after week one to non-guaranteed deals, but its not likely we get any help there either.
I think you'll see one of the DB's get cut and signed to the PS by next week, if not sometime later this week.

It was sarcasm Stevie.
But its going to be my canned response to every post that revisits/complains about trading a guy our new coaches didn't think was a fit for their system.
Its one thing if you guys got on here and said: "our staff sucks... I'd rather fire them and keep Bess so we can build around him."
I'd question what it was you were trying to build, but at least you'd have been choosing him over the staff. Not that any of you did.
Perhaps its me, but I just think its incessant whining to revisit the trade over and over and over.
The bottomline was he didn't fit our new offense so he was getting traded or cut. If you liked him more than the promise that our new open offense represents...so be it. But I'm more inclined to give the guy you hired what he thinks he needs to do the job rather than forcing him to make do with someone who limits his scheme.
I hope he has a great year. I hope he has a great game Sunday and that he loses. I like Bess and always have. I just know enough not to fall in love with average players (good story or not) and let that emotion make decisions/assessments for me.

At $3m!
Not too mention he'd be the last wr off the bench because the staff felt he held the offense back.

Yeah thats right! And i think he would not had taken a paycut because other teams were going to be willing to pay him.
Well Bess at 1.5 mill to be our fourth wr I would have been ok with. Three million he is not worth that in my eyes. Truth be told Bess could catch but too slow for that kind of money. Great person though and I am glad he has been awarded for his hard work.
I predict we'll see Bess catch a few short slants and fall down before contact. The guys slides more than a QB over the middle being pursued by Ray Lewis.
It's a GUARANTEE Bess will bring his "A game" against us. And if their coitusback can find him -- he'll have a monster game...
Last, just because Philbin (who is obviously seriously anal) has a different "spec" (prototype) for WR does NOT mean Bess is not one of the better "slot dudes" in the league.
If he a game breaker? NO. But he can pester a D all day long and certainly contribute to productive offensive football.
But of course our regime is "better" than that and we can afford to dump merely "productive" players for the group of super stars we have now assembled. So lets see..........
Not sure. But whatever. Never liked the name "Cobb."
Harvin = total HEAD CASE - literally. Tho fancy like a poodle on the field. 2-3 times a year...
Welker = way beyond prime and most likely missing 50%+ of the action from here on out. Also a closet metro.
Victor "cha cha" Cruz = too small and limited for the Philbin spec. Tho of course the dude can dance and has major game.
Last -- don't dis on Bess as if he's not a legit "playmaker." Part of making plays is maintaining possession and getting 1st downs. Bess is pretty good at that.
And no matter what the supposed truthful idiot says -- cutting a dude like Bess loose for 3 pennies and a few broken peanut shells is NOT good NFL biz.
My opinion. Of course.

I agree with Truth's original premise on this... But I am not sure it is McNutt, I think it is just as likely to be Tyms or maybe even both of them... Once Davis and Taylor are healthy it helps solidify up our ST coverage unit, which actually needs Jones and Stanford this weekend. I think it is likely that we could get rid of both Stanford and Jones, once Davis and Taylor show they can get and or stay healthy.... We already have Jimmy Wilson who plays ST well, is listed as a safety, who can easily play back up CB in the nickel or dime if someone gets hurt... We dont need 7 cb's, even though I know Coyle likes to play lots of spread DB packages... We could go with 5 no problem with WIlson being the versatile 6th back up role... Either way this 4 WR with 11 DB's taking up roster spots will not last for long IMO... And as others noted THigpen is a versatile listed RB who can play WR if someone gets hurt which puts us in a jam this weekend... It is just roster juggling because of injury, nothing to worry about.. We dont need a 5th WR this weekend anyways, probably wouldnt get a snap if we had one on the roster...
