Charles Clay = safe?

If I was Philbin, Clay gets benched except for special teams duties, Sims or Egnew get the start vs N.O.. Clay plays in the 4th quarter vs the scrubs. If he cannot dominate vs 3rd teamers then he is gone.

If either one of the others performs, they get the job. If not I sign a FA or make a trade. I probably do that anyway

Eesti notice of the safe players....there are 60 in total and we actually keep 53 in the regular squad....So clay will probably be one of the casualties...

And the fact that we are so thin at the tend position might be the reason we will keep an extra TEnd and he can also play fullback so he is versatile.

Gotta be better out there for a TE.

The rest of 24 bubble players we won't miss either.

That's scary, usually feel like there is more of those guys I'd like to keep.

We desperately need a TE. Too bad about Keller going down. We needed him.

Clay is safe...for now.

There isn't a threat on the roster to unseat him and we are going to carry at least 3 TE's.

That changes if we add a legit TE, but if we don't...he's a lock to be on the team.

I would disagree about no threat being on the roster. Sims is in line to be the guy and could get an opportunity sooner than later if the coaches are tired of Clay underachieving. They have been preaching that guys need to catch the ball for a long time.

Sims has impressed and shown potential as a pass catcher in a short time when most thought he would only be a blocker. How big of a threat do you have to be to unseat a guy who can't perform?

There comes a point where you just cut ties when a guy doesn't deliver. he averages about 200 yards and 2 td's a year. That's not real hard to replace and he's seen plenty of snaps.

I would not be shocked to see any of these scenarios unfold...

A) Bring in a TE to compete for a starting spot. Lose Clay

cool smiley Sims moves to starter, Egnew and Miller step up to #2 and #3. Clay moved.

C) Clay gets demoted

Clay has had his chance and he doesnt seem to run good routes....He just does not get any separation.

I think he doesnt make it.

there has to be some tend cut out there better than what we have...And yes sims has played well....They were saying the other day he was a good blocker as well....He is young and has the body frame to put on some weight and become even tougher as a blocker.

Clay was supposed to be this huge mismatch for defenders. I have not seen that from him AT ALL.

Sure. But my point wasn't that he won't start. It's that he's on this team as of today as one of the 3 TE.

Keep in mind that he's the only TE on our roster to have caught a regular season pass from tannehill.

He didn't play well last week, and he's never going to be a Dustin Keller, but he's better than the game he ate last week.

If we bring in another TE to start or develop then he cod be in trouble, but right now he is on the team.

Having said that.... Watch him get cut today..... Lol

I'd hate to see Gray Cut. I think he has High Potential as a 3rd down back. Maybe a starter. I would love to see us keep 4 RB. I think Thomas is a starter only because of his veteran status. Give Gray another year and he will be deadly. Hate to see him cut and wind up on another AFC roster. I know he blew it last week against Tampa , but I'd like to see him kept over Lane.

I hope a good Tight end pops up ,but Teams looking for a RB will scoop up Gray.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Clay had a nice TD on a wheel route against SEA last year. We won that game

Lance Louis sent packing....I do not like this move. Really thins us out and puts too much stock in Jerry.

They sure like to throw away money. SO MUCH money in dead cap space. We basically paid Lance Louis 100k to rehab him for someone else.

Lots more dead money on the books....

1 Jake Long $1,600,000.00
2 Vontae Davis $1,111,250.00
3 Clyde Gates $226,574.00
4 Josh Kaddu $140,055.00
5 Mickey Shuler $83,082.00
6 BJ Cunningham $79,650.00
7 Kevin Scott $6,000.00
8 Chas Alecxih $5,000.00
9 Jeff Fuller $5,000.00
10 Dustin Waldron $3,334.00
11 Derek Moye $3,334.00
12 Jacquies Smith $3,334.00
13 Jarrell Root $3,334.00
14 Louis Nzegwu $3,334.00
15 Derek Dennis $3,000.00
16 Cameron Collins $3,000.00
17 Trenton Hughes $3,000.00
18 Terence Brown $3,000.00
19 Shelly Lyons $2,000.00
20 Les Brown $1,667.00

I agree, but I really can't tell what kind of camp he's having.

My favorite all-time player is Larry Csonka, so I definitely am a fan of bruising, dependable fullbacks. This is why I was a big fan of Lousaka Polite....but Lousaka's production did tail off during his stint with us; his final year with us was considerably less productive. Then the Pats snatched him up and he didn't do much of anything for them.

I've gotta think that Javorskie is showing less promise than last year...or maybe it was a bad move. I hope we don't find out the hard way.

eesti- Did we cut Josh Kaduu? Why is he listed as dead money?

As a FB he's a mismatch.

As a TE he's not.

Probably because we cut him last year and resigned him to a minimum deal on the practice squad.

Whatever bonus money he got as a 5th round pick would be accelerated forward once the original contract was terminated.

WOW, impressive answer, that makes sense.... Weird to have dead money on a guy who has a good chance of making the 53 man roster this year and never left your organization but for a few hours as you cleared waivers....

Wow......This guy was playing for nothing. Some people make 4 times that sitting in an office doing practically nothing.
