Offerdahl joining the Ring of Honor- Welcome!

This guy was one hell of a linebacker. His career was inevitably cut short because his body couldn't sustain the punishment from the crushing hits he put on people. I will never forget watching Johnny O moving at top speed in the open field of the right flat, shedding the block with his left hand while bringing down the mechanical man, Eric Dickerson, with his right arm when Dickerson was with the Rams and at the top of his game. Dickerson was a very hard man to tackle, so this play was memorably impressive for me. Apparently, the Pro Bowl voters agreed with me.

Good for him. He can be next to one of my other all time favorites...AJ Duhe.

LOL, I was just gonna post that him and AJ Duhe were two of my all time favorites. Without a google search, can anyone tell me how many sacks Duhe had in a Dolphins uni?

Duhe's performance against the Jets in the AFC Championship game (82?) was incredible!

Offerdahl was one of my favorites as well, I got a Johnny O Jersey instead of a Marino jersey back in the day... It was a shame when his body just started to fall apart. But the guy use to play like a bat out of hell... It is amazing how similar Zach and him were with how they just attacked the ball carrier like the world was ending...

Absolutely my favorite Position to watch. I miss both Zach and Johnny O. Currently Reshad Jones is my favorite.....not a linebacker but a play maker. Congrats John Another great name to look at when I look around the stadium. Most deserving.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Nobody wants to answer this? I googled him a year or so ago because a guy I was working with asked if I remembered him, he had gone to high school with him in the Nawlins area, I was shocked to find out he only recorded like 8 sacks for us as a Dolphin, my memory of him was as a beast who was all over the field causing havoc, maybe that Jets game stuck with me more than I know! Does that surprise anyone else?

The LB position or at least the way they were used was different back then. They meaning Offerdahl, I dont think he had any more then that career sacks either... They were run stoppers and guys who covered the middle of the field more then pass rushers...

edit- I looked it up Offerdahl had 9.5 career sacks and 4 interceptions.. They didnt count tackles as a stat in their day.. But I am sure that is where u would have seen the big numbers..

Safe to say we've had some awesome ILB/MLBs:

Bouniconti
Duhe
Offerdahl
Thomas

A shout out? Buoniconti is in the HOF! He gets his (and well-deserved they are!) props. Johnny O not so much. But, talk to anybody that watched the Dolphins when he was here, we thought of him very much like many of you younger guys do of Zach Thomas, but Johnny O might have been even more athletic. He hit as hard as Zach did, and he might have been bigger, but he was more lightly built and we knew he wouldn't last very long. This was the reason he only lasted eight injury-filled seasons, but he made the Pro Bowl in his first five seasons and he was a delight to watch in those early days.

I'm a linebacker guy since the days of Butkus and Nitschke et al., and we've had some good ones here in Miami:
Barry Krauss and Cliff Odom (both from the Colts), Earnie Rhone, Dwight Hollier, Bob Brudzinski (from the Rams), Bryan Cox, Rusty Chambers, E.J. Junior, Hugh Green, and many others. Lots of good linebacker play in Miami.

LOL. That was my point. It was understatement. Everyone had forgot him .

offerdahl was great. really the only good D player we had in the mid 80s. I remember him in the senior bowl whwn he stopped bo jackson on 4th and 1. that put him on the map. we were lucky to get him with our 2d round pick that yr--we had no 1st rounder as we traded it for hugh green who ended up getting hurt vs jets and was never the same

Outstanding!!!

There was another thread that I saw before this one that asked who their favorite players were that are not in the ROF, and I said Offerdahl. I didn't know, until now, that he had been selected.

He deserves it.

He was such a great player and it was a pleasure to see him play.
