Egnew.......
Date: August 04, 2013 09:57PM

He had a decent night tonight,

He was targeted 6 times with 4 catches for 52 yds, his longest reception was for 25 yds.

Just curious..........New England offers us a #2 pick for him do we take it? drinking smiley

Not before we know how much he's improved his game over last year...he may still have some promise after all.

I thought Egnew had a good game also. I think he earned himself more playing time the next game.

No doubt .......But New England is desperate need of a TE comes calling with a high draft pick, would you take it? That's a tough one because its a division rival. For that reason alone I would say no. But......we are going to need Oline help in the draft next season. 2#2's Could get us the #1 Oline in the draft. Just saying......

No way in he** would I trade anyone to help out NE. That said they could just wait for us to cut someone. I actually think Clay would fit nicely in their O. I woulld charge them an arm and a leg.

Aaron Hernandez has more chance fetching a "high draft pick" in a trade than Michael Egnew. Guys let's not be delusional here. Egnew is a sucky tub of goo who won't make the team.

Berk- I think he is 50/50 to make the team right now, and last night didnt hurt him...

maybe he makes it as our #3 TE behind Keller and Sims (doubtful) but there is no way we are getting a high draft pick for him regardless

he had a drop also and I think the biggest knock on him is he is soft

Last night he played like a solid 5th rounder.

He still has a few rounds of upside amplitude left before he's back to par. IMO.

Egnew looked OK. Somewhat of a project but maybe it will take a little longer. Miller looked decent, could challenge him

Egnew is doing a bit better than I expected. It would be nice to see the 2nd round draft pick pan out.

He was a 3rd not a a 2nd... But either way, it would be nice to salvage something...

Yep he was pick 78 of rd 3. Even though he is playing much better, I still have serious doubts as to whether he makes the team.. Dustin Keller, Charles Clay, and Dion Syms are locks IMO.. If we keep 3, no way he makes the roster....Not sure how many guys we are going to keep, but even if we keep 4, I am still not sure he beats out Kyle Miller...

eggie has improved a LOT -- but he's still marginal "on the cusp" and as Berk pointed out -- there's no chance he's worth any draft capital. Zero.

Beyond that -- I think this regime will focus on keeping (for the most part) the BEST players on the final 53 -- with strength (significant depth) at DE CB and RB. It's hard to see keeping 4 TEs and 5-6 WRs at the expense of some OL depth...

We might get 2 dozen if he plays better.......grinning smiley

I know , just having some fun in the pre season. Egnew is a bust. I'd love to see someone overpay us for him though. Maybe the Raiders? grinning smileythumbs up

maybe rick speilman will bite. he's with the vikings now. he gave a 3d for lamar gordon and a 2d for aj feeley. since he likes crappy players maybe he'd be interested in "tub of goo" egnew

No I dont think you can trade a guy who has ever to catch a regular season pass.. I meant salvage, meaning the fact we wasted pick 78 on him and he has yet to catch a regular season pass ,and good chance he never does with the Dolphins at this point... It would be nice to get some use out of him.. Another wasted 3rd rd pick is never a good feeling...

When your staring Tight ends are in Surgery more then some Doctors, and the other is warming a bench in Cell 108 and wearing an orange jumpsuit......Egnew might be a decent prospect for a 5th rounder. Trade Egnew to the Pats Riled........and I will forgive you for Pat White. grinning smiley

It all depends how many TEs we keep.. If we keep 3, he is gone, if we keep 4. he has a 50/50 shot... There are only 5 guys on the preseason roster that I see, so he only has to beat out 1 guy if we keep 4...

If we don't keep 6 WR we will keep 4 TE.

If we keep 6 WR then it should come down to wanting a 4th TE, FB or 5th RB.

The way I see it, it comes down to this:

The following guys are on the roster:

WR: Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Matthews, Bumphis.
RB: Miller, Thomas, Thigpen.
TE: Keller, Sims
FB:

I think we carry 13 or 14 guys at those 4 positions. Ten are locks at this point. That leaves 3-4 spots to be filled from the following:

WR: Tyms, Fuller, Davis
RB: Gillislee, Gray
TE: Clay, Egnew, Miller
FB: Lane, Rodriguez.

I think one of the RB's definitely makes it. The other we could try to stash on the practice squad.

I think Egnew is more of a true TE than Clay who is an H-back. I think Egnew is our 3rd TE at this point.

If we go with 13 then that leaves one spot and its either Tyms, Clay or a FB. I'd take Clay.

If its 14, then Clay is on and the last spot comes down to either Tyms, a 5th RB, Miller or a FB. I suppose that would come down to which guys you are more likely to get to the practice squad or which has the biggest impact on ST's.

There are a lot of ways to go. I just don't think Egnew is getting cut. He has a ton of upside and he's made major strides in just one off-season towards reaching that potential. He's big, he's fast and for a guy who NEVER was asked to block in-line college, he's apparently shown he can learn and improve.

I think it'll be 4 RB's + Thigpen, I don't see them counting on him as a RB at all. IMO, Miller, Thomas, Gillislee and Gray are locks, after that who knows?
