Fine, Belichick is a great coach...but NOT better than Shula, Lombardi or Noll.

In a game of inches, an edge can be the difference between being 7-9 and 11-5. An edge is also what helps you win the big games...
To me it is kind of like the baseball steroid use, once a player is tainted with that label, it kind of lives with him and his legacy. It shall always be attached to his name... Just like in steroids, you cant draw the line as to at what level it helped. WOuld a guy have hit those home runs without that extra power. Would the team, have called the right play or attack an area based on the insight they gained from cheating?
Same thing you cant draw the line, the victories and superbowls should be overturned IMO.. But that is not what the NFL wants, so they destroyed the evidence..
The NFL kept hidden what were on those tapes and a lot of the evidence in the case, so to me I can only assume it was worse then what we know. Bad enough that they destroyed all of the evidence...
TO me Belichick is a great coach, but he is also a cheater who got caught.. What he did was far worse then what the HC Peyton for NO did, and he was kicked out of the league for an entire year.. Belichick got off easy with fines and his 1st rd draft pick that year... Kind of sucks, I was hoping he would have taken Phillip Merling instead of leaving him for us with pick 32 that year..hahahahaha

It is a bit weird because in Nascar when people get caught cheating, you kind of look at it, that if you aren't cheating you arent trying hard enough... In football, coaches don't get that pass, they get a stigma...
I guess Nascar was built on a bunch of law breaking moonshiners, the whole reason for the sport was about breaking the rules...lol... The NFL has sold itself on this level of honor and integrity. You always hear about "protecting the integrity" of the game... Protecting the integrity of the game and Belichick's legacy dont really go together, which equals stigma...

Put an asterisk by his name in the record books. Simple as that.

The one and only thing Belicheat did good was to pick Tom Brady in the 6th round.

Think about it. He doesn't do that and where would that team have gone.

And if the gm actually made that pick, then Belicheat didn't do anything because all of the Pats success is because of Brady who is the one exception to my "Quarterback is NOT the only player on the team" motto.

Sure, but not at the cost of wins and Super Bowls being tarnished and validity brought into question for cheating... Who wants that.... Everything before he got caught cheating is in question and he hasn't been able to win championship since, although he continues to thrive with Tom Brady at the helm... It actually sucks for his players like Brady who didn't cheat and have their teams wins and legacy tarnished because of Belichicks actions as HC..

Those that want to tie Belichick's success to Brady forget the year that Matt Cassell played QB. Sure, they didn't make the playoffs, but that was more about us than them. They still won 11 games!

I don't like Belichick, but I have to acknowledge the fact that he's a very good coach. I just get annoyed at sports analysts who want to crown him the best NFL coach ever. Those guys are either naive or stupid.

I'm not buying the "Matt Cassell" defense.

There are plenty of solid QB's who had career years on loaded teams. 2 or 3 of them even won Super Bowls.

Cassell had a very good, not great year on a team with Welker and Moss as his two wideouts. As you said, he didn't even get them into the playoffs. Brady, on the other hand won titles with lesser and similar talent.

Brady is a HOF'er. He's the reason the won 3 Super Bowls by a couple of points. If he never got drafted by the Pats then there is no way they win 3 titles and lose another two in the last 10 years.

But they wouldn't have sucked either. Belecheat is a very good coach. he'd have won his share of games, but not championships, with a lesser QB.

His legacy is, he picked Brady, won 3 SBs. But couldn't win the big one after getting caught cheating. And that he wears flashdance-style sweatshirts.

I guess I have a soft spot for him ever since he told the Jets and Parcells to go F**k themselves and then went to the Pats. Classic.
Can you imagine all this success with the Jets!? My Gawd. Te Jets sucking worse then us is the only thing that kept me going this past decade.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I hear what you are saying Treasure, I like him and the pats more then the Jets that is for sure... But that isnt saying much, it is like saying i prefer the toe jam from a long hot days outside in flip flops over the swamp ass you get from the jeans you have on .... Not much of a regard for either....

You could say the same thing about lots of coaches. The QB is the single most important player on the team. What if Bill Walsh hadn't had Joe Montana? What about Chuck Noll and Terry Bradshaw? Shula and Griese?

I agree Monte, but none of those guys got caught cheating. Had they, you wouldn't think of their legacy in the same regard as you currently do..

Those Coaches , including Parcells and evrey great coach had a great QB. What made Shula great? He picked Two HOF QB's. Griese and Marino. Since Shula we did not have 1 coach that took the position seriously or in high regard. We went the route of Back up from another Team or a 2nd rounder. It killed us and our chances of ever being competitive.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Sorry, Shula did not pick Griese. George Wilson was the head coach at that time. John Stofa was the starting QB until he got hurt, then Griese took over. Shula took over as HC in 1970.

I guess when it comes to the level of hate I have for the Jets vs. the Pats, at this point it's pretty much a dead even thing. I think the thing i realize is that I hate the Pats more over the past decade because of their dominance over Miami, while I have hated the Jets my entire life like an eternal enemy. I remember back in the 90's when the Bills were the dominant team in the East. I had the same kind of hate for them then like I do for the Pats now. I hated Thurman Thomas like I hate Brady. My dislike for the dominant team comes and goes with their success, while my vile hatred for the Jets I will carry with me to the grave no matter if they are contenders or 1-15.
