We are at 17mill+ now.
I think we now have only Jordan and Thomas remaining unsigned.
Figure 4mill or so for Jordan.
Some cap space will be freed up by cuts in camp and trades (like Dan Carpenter).
We should have nearly $15 mill to roll over to next year when all is said and done.
^^^ In Philbin we trust. He is a future Zen Master of football coaching in the making. He could probably make even the Waterboy fill in as a backup to any position.
Ill give you exactly the same answer the coach will give. If there's someone we feel the need to go out and get and they fit what we need we will try and sign them. Hell it feels nice to have to not sweat cap space.
don't forget, we need to extend R Jones and maybe another player or 2. plus a lot of our FA signings were to 1 year deals, and we've got a bunch of guys in the last years of their contracts. and most of the $$ given out this year to FAs kicks in year 2 of the deals. So we are gonna need every last penny of that cap space, and then some, next year.

Actually the list of FA's we have in 2014 is rather weak. That is, there aren't many we'll be bringing back at big money.
Other than Reshad Jones, who from this group are you going to give big money to over 3+ years?
Reshad Jones
Richie Incognito
John Jerry
chris Clemons
Paul Soliai
Randy Starks
Pat Devlin
Josh Kaddu
Tyson Clabo
Dustin Keller
Dan Carpenter
Lance Louis
Nolan Carroll
Johnathan Freeney
Koa Misi
Brent Grimes
Julian Posey
Austin Spitler
RJ Sanford
Armon Binns
Jon Denney
Will Yeatman
Maybe Keller & Grimes could get significant raises over this years cap #.
And maybe guys like Clemons, Kaddu, Jerry, Louis, Binns or Yeatman could see small increases.
But guys like Soliai, Starks and Incognito will need to take paycuts to even be on the roster.
I don't see next year as much of a worry cap-wise.
but Truth, if you let all those guys go because they are not "worth the money," who are you going to replace them with? if FAs then that means $$. And this constant churning of huge numbers of players each year is not the way to build a winning team. And if you already think these guys are paid too much, what does that say about this team as it is right now?
I'd like to extend at least Starks or Solia, they are good players at a premium position.

Berk, nearly every team in the NFL turns over 20-25% of the roster every season.
The point I was making isn't that we will cut all of those guys, or that they are overpaid. It was that of those 22 guys, there are only 2-3 guys that would have a significantly larger cap impact next year over what they had this year.
I'm really not worried about our cap position long term. Ireland has done a good job setting the cap up the last two years and structuring the deals he did this year to take advantage of our current cap space while giving us an out after 2-3 years if the players don't work out.
The cap isn't our problem next year. What we need to do is focus on finishing the roster conversion we started last year to the west coast and the 4-3.
I expect that will mean parting ways with 15 or so of the guys on that list.
The 17 million dollar cap hit for Wallace next year along with a lot of those FA, should make for an intersting year.. To many moving pieces for me to really judge it at this point.. But. I could see Pouncey getting resigned early, Reshad Jones. Clemons is only on a one year deal... Dion Jordan is gonna take up another 4 or so next year as well. Keller and Grimes as Truth mentioned.. I don't think we can afford to let both Starks and Solia our starting DT's both walk in the same year, so you probably sign one of them.. Incognito depends on the year he has.... I think next year might start to get intersting with cap juggling.. If you remember Ireland minimized the cap hits for most of his FA signings for this year, not so much next year...

Ireland has always done a pretty good job with cap management. With the Cap specialist Dawn working along his side, I have to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point that they have a good plan to keep our cap room in shape.. But as Treasure said, it gets harder and harder to keep a team together and sign big FA's when you have guys like Reshad Jones, Mike Pouncey, possibly Tannehill stepping up.. If Dion Jordan thrives his check will be in the mail as well in 3- 4 years... One good thing about not doing that great at drafting is you dont have to pay big bucks to keep your players.. The downside to drafting well, is you have to pay guys serious cap space as their rookie contracts come up..
It is a positive for our cap space if we dont have to pay a LT ten percent of our cap... right now we dont have nearly the cap space dedicated to the oline that we have had in the past under Ireland.. We have alot of money at WR, DLINE and LB...in the future that money is gonna move around again back to center, QB and safety...

We better hope they work out, the Gibril WIlson, Jake Grove dead money really held us back a bit for a couple years but didnt bury us. Nothing hurts worse then dead money, and big signings that dont remain with the team... WHo do you all think is the most likely big money signing that could turn into dead money in the future?
