YES! He may not have had a strong arm but this guy was a solid addition and a great locker room presence. That would be awesome if they considered him for a permanent spot
I dont think Pennington wants the rigors of pro coaching with a young family... If he did I am sure we would offer him a job... Although I dont think our QB coach is going anywhere with his father in law still running our offense and play calling..

It seems Pennington will be coaching all week, not just one day... I hope they keep him longer, while Zac Taylor appears to be a decent coach, he doesnt have the NFL Qb game time knowledge Pennington can add to that room.. Even if its only a week, it is still a great call IMO.. And I have to hand it to Ireland for pulling it off, I dont think it was Philbin... The only connection to Pennington I see with the Dolphins staff or FO is Ireland..

Interesting. Why do you say that? Not everyone can teach. I am an instructor at work and its so much harder then any of my reg. duties. Being a good teacher is a gift I wish I enjoyed more and was better at.

Yeah I kind of agree, not sure Strock got a real shake at it though. FIU was a new program with very little clout or recruiting ability, Schnellenberger didn't do very well with FAU around the same time either and he was a legend in college coaching from his UM days with a much better recruiting draw..

One would think that a HOF passer could teach a little savvy to a young NFL QB with tons of potential.
But then again...I love to drive, but I suck at teaching it.

Strock was instrumental in Marino's development as a QB. He was a teacher as a backup QB, so you would think that would translate into coaching.
I don't think Marino would be a good coach...He didn't need much coaching with that arm of his, plus he was and probably still is impatient and hyper critical of mistakes. The good coaches/teachers are the ones that aren't too naturally talented at some skill but made up for it with a positive attitude, smarts/studying & learning the position...for example : Pennington.
Cant think of any really historically brilliant ones except for Mike Shanahan.
One of the reason that people think Pennington specifically would be a good coach, is because his Dad was a High School Football coach his whole life and grew up a coaches kid. He grew up on the X's and O's of football so to speak, and it showed in his play and decision making... That is probably the difference between comparing him to Strock or Marino as coaches.. I dont think they had football coach fathers... I dont think Marino would be a good coach, Marino is into Marino, I dont think he has the right personality to be a coach either... Pennnington has that kind of selfless demeanor about him...

I thought that Marino's father was a football coach too (isn't that how he got #13? His dad was his coach and made him pick his jersey number last---and the only QB number remaining was #13?)
But I agree that Penny would make a great QB coach.
JC-I think Marino's Dad has been described more as a sandlot little league coach then a full time HS head coach as Pennington 's Dad... you are right about the number 13 from his childhood days with his Dad.. And Marino always credited his Dad as the guy who developed his unique quick release style at a young age..
