Tony Ireland VS Joe Ireland

I think when we talk about Irelands tenure in Miami, we need to start treating it as if he was a new hire with Philbin when Sporano was axed, the moves he makes now compared to a few years ago are night and day if you ask me.
Case in point (it's case "in" point, not case "and" point.....I googled it), we needed a RT, Tony Ireland rushes out and signs one of "his guys" who was never very good to begin with and sucked even worse here.....fast forward to this weekend, Joe Ireland takes his time, does his due diligence on 3 or 4 options, and signs what many believe was the best choice, a very durable, one time pro-bowl RT who appears like a perfect fit for this team. That's just one example, but there are many more like it. Now, not all of Joe Irelands moves will work (Egnew), but there seems to be a whole different air about Ireland since Tony S was shown the door and Joe P was ushered in.
The correlation between the GM and HC working well together and being on the same page can't be stressed enough, wheather you hate him for his past mistakes or not, Jeff Ireland should get a clean slate starting when Joe Philbin was hired.

Preachin to the choir...

While his FA in 2013 was pretty bold, his draft picks since 2011 still need to show something.

He hit on 1 draft pick in 2011. Potentially two in 2012 that could turn into 4 (Martin, Miller & Vernon) and ???in 2013.

It won't look good if Martin doesn't play well this year at LT.

2013 1 1 3 3 Dion Jordan DE Oregon
2 2 22 54 Jamar Taylor DB Boise State
3 3 15 77 Dallas Thomas T Tennessee
4 3 31 93 Will Davis DB Utah State
5 4 7 104 Jelani Jenkins LB Florida
6 4 9 106 Dion Sims TE Michigan State
7 5 31 164 Mike Gillislee RB Florida
8 5 33 166 Caleb Sturgis K Florida
9 7 44 250 Don Jones DB Arkansas State

2012 1 1 8 8 Ryan Tannehill QB Texas A&M
2 2 10 42 Jonathan Martin T Stanford
3 3 9 72 Olivier Vernon DE Miami (FL)
4 3 15 78 Michael Egnew TE Missouri
5 4 2 97 Lamar Miller RB Miami (FL)
6 5 20 155 Josh Kaddu LB Oregon
7 6 13 183 B.J. Cunningham WR Michigan State
8 7 8 215 Kheeston Randall DT Texas
9 7 20 227 Rishard Matthews WR Nevada

2011 1 1 15 15 Mike Pouncey G Florida
2 2 30 62 Daniel Thomas RB Kansas State
3 4 14 111 Edmond Gates WR Abilene Christian
4 6 9 174 Charles Clay TE Tulsa
5 7 28 231 Frank Kearse DT Alabama A&M

Also Good Points eesti. Martin needs to have a solid season a least. That's HUGE for us , and his reputation. If his picks from last season on improve he can blame it all on Tony.

Poor Tony. He has become the scat king of NFL football on the East coast!

2011 was still with Sporano, no? Although this isn't as much about the moves that work vs fail, every GM has plenty of those, Ireland just seems like a different GM since the change at HC IMO.

I think 2011 was a handicapped year since he was still trying to work with a Parcels implant and really not buying into the philosophy...but he is still responsible to choose good players. Even if they don't fit Philbins schemes, they still should have produced.

I am seeing a pattern....

1st pick: great pick...
2nd pick: underachiever
3rd pick: getting worse
4th...so on an so forth with an occasional hit.

Looking at that logically you can come to 2 conclusions:

A) Saprano was a very bad influence. He only wanted to build a Team to run run run KICK.

cool smiley Philbin is a very good influence. Excellent Football philosophy's and works well with others.

I think his earlier draft picks show a disturbing lingering influence of the incompetent fat fool from N.J. This guy faild miserably with three teams as a G.M. and draftnik, but he had a draft show this year?!?! Goes to show how desperate the national media are.

You're a reasonable man berk, you honestly can't see a difference in Ireland with Philbin?

But......both Saprano and Parcells are gone, and look at the difference . Thats all we are saying. If he wants to claim that T. Saprano and Smelly Tuna were behind the bad picks and direction he needs for these picks to work out. You gotta admit , he handled this draft pretty well. No one had a clue he was going to move up and grab Dion. He raped the Radiers for a single 2nd rounder. Guy seems to have balls of steel all of a sudden. before he was Mr Careful I'm not taking any chances.

Again, the results of THIS season will tell us everything we need to know about Ireland, so again, let's hold off until the season is over.

Absolutely. He's earned this season for a standown. Now the ball is in Philbins court. A much better coach and mentor IMO.

Yeah TCPF.

Ireland did his job.

Frankly, I doubt he could have had a better off-season.

Now he hands the baton off to Philbin and we see if it works or not.

Exactly. And if your a true Dolphins fan how can you NOT be excited? Anything can happen , but on paper this has become a really good Team. Philbin needs to whip'em in shape. thumbs up

True, Ireland did his job, but how well is still the question. This season will tell us how well he did. Lots of times people can say...."On paper, this team looks like a powerhouse." But, this draft on paper, I don't know; it doesn't look real promising. Even what he did in free agency is difficult to tell how things will work out. Signed quite a few guys coming off of injuries.

We'll just have to wait and see and hope everything Ireland did this off season pans out.

I've said this and I meant it:

I will not be mad if we go down swinging. I only got pissed when we tried to get on base looking for a walk.

TAKE a chance. Don't be stupid like the Raiders and grab for shit every season but take a chance on a young QB in the first round. Build a Team around him. You fail at least you go down swinging.

When we are in DIRE need of a QB and we pick a punt returner with the 9th overall pick , I get pissed. J. Long was a great pick , but it was also a safe pick.W were looking for a frebbie. We needed a QB. We should have been trying for a QB for years , every draft.

This year Irelend came out swinging. he didn't stop and still has a few punches left. He couldn't have done more. I have no problem with him if it goes bad for whatever reason. He Tried. 110% . He Tried.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I think Philbin will have a direct impact to save Ireland's job. Seems like the two have some good chemistry working together and as a result I can actually picture this team winning with pieces that have been put in place. The ball is in Thill's court now to prove that he truly can be and is a franchise QB, and I have some optimism that this could happen.

i agree with 808 and tcpf........

1. philbin will be irelands savior.

2. I was definetely pissed off when we picked ginn instead of a qb...i agree we should had picked a qb every year since dan left.

Ireland will be proven as a sham. The question is, how long will the ownership put up with him? My guess is way too long.

I think your status here mirrors your opinion of Ireland. My question is how long will Curt and JC put up with you? My guess is Hopefully NOT too much longer.

If anyone is going to be a savior, it will be Ryan Tannehill. If successful, he will save the jobs of Ireland and Philbin. Without a good QB, they are both gone. As is any GM or HC that can't find one.

eeti IMO the drafting of tannehill was philbins idea....

Coincidence that we havent picked a QB in the first round in 20 years and we pick one on philbins first year? Nope...And weve had a million chances.......matt ryan, rodgers..Brees after the first but still .Just to name three.

So when i said philbin i meant everything that came with philbin and that included tannehill.

Sorry Sam, but that is just wrong.

Philbin had been here for 2 months before the draft and admittedly didn't even look at much film on prospects last year because he had so much more on his plate. Not that scouting is his job now.

They were talking about getting a franchise QB like Peyton Manning or maybe even Matt Flynn, or investing in one in the draft LONG before Joe was hired.

Because Ireland had no idea that we needed a QB? So JP came in and took control of Ireland and personnel decisions within 2 months of being here? Not likely.
