McKinnie in for a visit?

Jeff Darlington ?@JeffDarlington 26m I'm told free agent tackle Bryant McKinnie is visiting Dolphins' facility today. Team obviously needs a tackle. McKinnie now on the radar.

Either a brilliant ploy to get KC's price down on Albert, Winston's asking price down, or the big guy better be in shape?

I would sign McKinnie and Winston. Winstons solves the RT spot for a year or 2. Martin and McKinnie battle for LT, with the loser providing good depth at the position. What is the downside? Not to much $$ for either move. Much preferable than big $$ and draft pick for Albert.

I like the idea of signing both as well. Good depth. Decent competition. We might have to carry 9 OL instead of 8, but we'll probably only have 5 WR on the list - so we can find a roster spot for him.

martin/Mckinne
incog/thomas
pouncey
lewis/jerry (or ingoc if Thomas wins the job)
Winston/Garner/Jerry

that seems good enough to me

Reported to be taking a physical today in Miami. In other words, getting on the scale to see if he has been eating bon bons all off season.

What are the odds we release Incognito if Dallas Thomas looks good at LG? We would save 4.3 mil.

Is Miami really a good place for McKinnie? Love Boat scandal (public sex act), gas station arrest, Miami night club arrest...all for fighting, resisting arrest, etc.

This is the character guy Philbin wants? I guess that hypocricy only goes so far when you're desperate.

I am not sure about McKinnie. From what I read he was popular w/ teammates but the fans did not like him. There also seems to be some issue that no one is talking about in KC. He gave up 6 sacks w/ KC and 17 his last two years in TX. Two teams let him go in 2 years not sure I would want the guy.

Who? McKinnie never played in KC or Texas.

I don't think we should release Incog no matter what. First, he is a good player. Maybe not all-world, maybe no the 100% scheme fit, but certainly an above average starter. Second, he is a bad-ass and leader on the line. We really lack many guys like that. What kind of message does it send when you keep cutting "leaders" to save $$ when we really are not that strapped. Worst case scenario, Incog is excellent depth for the year. I think his deal is up next season, everyone can revist moving on then.

think you mean winston. I don't care if fans don't like him. If they don't, it is probably because he ripped the fans (he went a bit overboard IMO) for cheering when Cassel got knocked out last year.

This should be Winston:

Tyson Clabo is a better player.

I agree (w/ Clabo) I honestly hope we close the deal w/ Albert. We have people that play RT we need that LT.

Just hope McKennie comes in with a clear head and wanting to play.

I'd rather have McKinnie and Winston that Albert and his contract.

Only if McKinnie comes in with his head on straight, weight under control, and not asking for the world. Winston must bring his contract demand down.

I've already stated on numerous occasions I wouldn't take Albert at $9M per year.

Personally I don't want him. It goes against the type of team Philbin is building.

Depending on variables of who else might be able to be signed, if you pick this guy up you sign him to a 1 year deal with incentives on the heavy side. Put his base salary at less than 1 mill. His age(34?) isn't that big of an issue. Honestly unless we can get someone locked in that's going to lock down the LT position for 3-5 years, anyone we sign is just a stop gap. That being said, whoever comes in as the stop gap doesn't necessarily need to fit into Philbin's prototype.

It's reported that he has an offer from us, and is considering it along with offers from other teams

I want McKinnie forget the self righteous BS about the type of guy Philbin wants. The guy answered the bell for the ravens and looked damn good in the super bowl.

That's 4 games out of 20. If he can maintain that level of play for 16 games then it is worth it for a one year deal.

It has nothing to do with being self righteous. It has to do with earning your paycheck and working your ass off like every other player on the team is required to do. It's a core philosophy. You can't let one guy slide while everyone else works. That's a great way, as a coach, to lose your teams respect.

If you don't question the guys motivation then you are a fool, as a FO person.

He was cut by the Vikings for reporting to camp out of shape. Signs a contract with the Ravens, plays one year then reports to camp the next year out of shape AGAIN.

This is a talented guy who could be shopping himself for 8 mil a year but instead is having to settle for short term deals like he want he got in Baltimore (3.5 mil per year). How could you not question the guys motivation and intellect?

I think its a core principle to go after character guys but I think they are also willing to take a risk on a guy and give him a 2nd chance at the right price. That is to say they will take a shot on a guy who fills a big need and as a cheap FA with little or no guaranteed money (ie chad Johnson) and won't do it in the draft or on a high priced FA unless they are convinced whatever incident was on his record was a one time thing.
