Hey, dude. It's Boston. I think JC lives there. It's also the off-season right before the draft. And it's not like we're engaged in bitter fighting with each other. Hang loose.
Many years ago, Curt stated in one of the prior versions of the "rules" sticky post that one of the exceptions to staying On Topic was events such as 9-11. Well, here we are. That is why I have let this thread exist for a few days.
Yes, I live in the Boston area...I haven't posted much in the past few days; I just don't have much to say at this point. But I will say this:
It was mentioned once or twice on this thread (I think it was Chyren that an event such as this at the Boston Marathon was not expected as a possibility. I'm fairly certain that this was not the case locally....ever since 9-12-01 there has been talk about security with the Marathon. Sure, arena events were more suspect but I don't think that the Boston Athletic Association (the BAA runs the marathon) has been standing around whistling dixie for the past 12 years.
Three of the four 9/11 airplanes departed from Logan Airport right here in Boston so the "can't happen here" attitude has not been prevalent, I don't think. The problem is the logistics of securing a neighborhood (the Back Bay section of Boston) which is one of the few areas in town that is actually a street grid, at an event where there would be a prevalence of back-backs under normal circumstances (also as mentioned by Bob). We have dozens of universities, hence thousands of students always carrying backpacks---plus the athletes themselves have changes of clothing and other belongings in bags.
After events like this the reactions from any group will run the gamut, so I've let this thread hang around until now. It's the offseason and because as said earlier, it's an example of an 'exception' to staying on topic.

You are absolutely right JC. The marathon, and every major public gathering have been considered targets since 9/11. Hence the added security. You can't bring briefcases or back packs into baseball games anymore and you have to go through a security screening and metal detector here in NY on your way in.
There just isn't anyway to screen everyone along a 26mile race course. But that doesn't mean they didn't anticipate it as a target. Just look at the fact that the NYC PD was already there in force. The only reason for that is they are the most highly trained PD in the country when it comes to anti-terrorism. Then there's the fact that the cell service was shut down in seconds after the explosion. Those aren't actions of a city or an event or a security force that hadn't already anticipated the Marathon as a target.

they swept for bombs before the race. and if you leave a bad on the ground for 12 hours someone will notice. that's why they were not set the night before.
I seriously doubt all the video showed was just the guys walking down the street. I am sure they have tape that is not released that shows them dropping their bags and walking away. they just didn't release it yet

They said they have tape of the guy in the white cap placing the second bag on the ground just before the explosion.
I know Bob wants this to be Islamic Fundamentalists because it feeds his paranoid "exterminate them before they exterminate us" cold war view, but its absurd to think that a major event like this would allow one, let alone two back packs to be left unattended on the sidewalk for 12-24 hours prior to an event like this.
Too bad for him its looking more and more like homegrown loonies or militia type terrorists.
then again, there are white muslims. Maybe he gets lucky and they are from the one of the former Soviet baltic states.
These guys actually look like they could be foreign to me, plus their young age lends me to lean towards some sort of Al Qeida off-shoot. Home grow miltia types are generally middle aged white guys.
I hope they're from the States, if they are, they should be picked up by tomorrow sometime (surely someone will recognize them from the pics), if they're foreign, they're probably in a cave in the middle east already. Fingers are crossed for a speedy I.D. and arrest.

You obviously weren't on twitter after the last presidential election.
Loonies on both ends of the spectrum come in all shapes, colors, sizes and ages.
Dolphaholic, you have to realize that it seems that THE Truth has his stereotypes just like the rest of us, only we are not allowed to question his because after all he does speak "The Truth."
But my question is how does he know so much about my Holy War views, as so aptly put by Hooligan, unless he is taking "Peeky peeks" by Unblocking me when he really wants to. I actually think he has read all of my posts. LOL. He's as medical about me as DolfanKing is about Ryan Tannehill. Only DK's mania makes more sense. LOL.
And it doesn't have to be two days like he said but the runners go off at about 3 p.m., like the LA Marathon, run recently, don't they?
So everyone starts gathering around 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. The bomber comes in around then, everyone assumes he is one of the runners, when the run goes off, he simply leaves and every one assumes he came because he drove one of the runner and/or just wanted to see them off.
And Chyren, I disagree with your thoughts on the Truth, he's one of the best posters on this board when it comes to logic and accuracy IMO, as far as him un-blocking you......I doubt it, most of your post's are re-posted by someone else and he probably see's them there. I also think you're way off on the "dropping the bag the night before theory", it's been widely reported that they have video of them dropping the bag.

Thanks for the kind words dolphaholic.
And you are right, I'm not unblocking that lunatic. Its better for all of us if I continue to ignore him.
But it looks like he might end up being right on this one.
Two young men who emigrated from Chechnya. If not part of Al Qaeda then likely Islamic terrorist wannabe's.
I really hope they take this last schmuck alive but I doubt it.

Dude......everyone was right. These fruitcakes were a little of everything. I'm just glad they are on them. I want that last little SOB caught. The fact that he is on the run shows he had help. We need to catch his ass for the in tell alone. Who knows how many other stupid "losers" we have building crap bombs from stuff bought at a walmart elsewhere?
Not to switch Topic, But this kinda shows why background checks on guns won't solve a goddamn thing. If people want to kill they will. This whole thing opens a new can of worms.
