This year will determine the next 3 years or so IMO... If we win this year he gets an extension, if we lose, het gets the axe... And the scary realm of who will be willing to work for Ross will become a reality.. I am not sure what scares me more... I hope Ireland pull this off, because the unknown could be horrible... And I am no fan of Ireland.....
Philbin would have to have a rabbit in his hat to get us a decent GM...

Philbin won't hire the new GM.

Doing so would be giving him both jobs. That's not likely to happen.

If Ireland goes this year the New GM will clean house...again.

I'd prefer to avoid that for a year but we've had that discussion before.

I am not sure, if we fire Ireland, Philbins reputation and stature is much stronger then Ross's... Ross would do better going the philbin route... But you are probably right if we suck they both probably go... If we are mediocre it could get very interesting and go either way...

ALL drafts are important. That's the main reason we have been in the basement for over a decade. This one is important because we need to get the most from all the big contracts we just signed .

To all you armchair GMs, Ireland is doing fine.
He picked a great coach, a great QB, and has set this team up to make huge strides with a boatload of cash, and a bevy of draft picks.

And what's with all the hate towards Ross??
The only thing he's done is honestly try and make this team better sparing no expense.
Everyone ripped him for going after Harbaugh. Was I the only one who applauded him??

I mean, I get it that 30 years of sucking makes you overly bitter.
Please just quit all the unwarranted complaining!! It's getting soooo old!

SoCal- get over yourself Chief, we have had 4 losing seasons in a row.. Last time I checked, that is not fine...
Ross's problem was no that he went after Harbaugh, it was the fact that he did it while he still had another coach under contract.. And was also foolish enough to let the news find out his intentions.. So he and our organization looked foolish again... So much so Ross had to publicly apologize and give a contract extension to the coach he was trying to replace, and the fire him months later... The logo is just another action in the long line of foolish moves, like orange carpet and celebrity owners.. And Club Liv being placed in the stadium...
I am glad you are so gung ho about Ross and Ireland... Some of us don't see them quite as rosey as you seem to... Ignoring all of these things when trying to stand up for them is getting a bit old as well... But you keep telling yourself Ireland is fine and Ross is the man all u want.. To each their own...

There's no doubt that Ross made a rookie mistake in going after Harbaugh while Sparano was still here, but I'd love to hear just how was he supposed to keep the media from finding out in this day and age?

That stuff isn't targeted at your generation Crowder. Its understandable that you don't care which musician or actor buys a fractional share of the team and shows up at the stadium on Sundays, or that a change in the logo is stupid. The older people get the less they like change. They get more set in their ways.

All this stuff showmanship stuff is targeted at kids with the idea of attracting a NEW generation of fans. Yes, some of it is over the top and maybe even ego driven, but most of it is a good business strategy that won't bear fruit today but should down the road.

They aren't worried about the over 40 fan. If you are still with the team at this point you are a diehard and all they need to do to make them happy is find a QB and get back to being competitive every year.

Its much harder to attract new fans that will be the fan base of the franchise after for the next 40 years.

Two ways to draw them in...win titles and glitz and glamour. It takes time to build a team that can win a title, especially without a QB. Huizenga never understood that. Ross does.

With any luck, all this back and forth over Ireland and the dislike some of you have for Ross will be a moot point in a few years and our young QB puts us back in the game. If Tannehill is a bust then its a new front office and HC and a new QB.....and 5 more years of complaining about the drapes and the uniforms.

Puh-leaze. If they thought these moves were going to attract new football fans (of any age), then they just showed how clueless they are about their market. Not one person is going to be a football fan because J-Lo owns the team, or because Club-Liv (whatever that is) is at the stadium. It was a stupid move that only turned off real (existing) fans with no positives at all. Anyone who knew anything about football should have seen that coming a mile away. The fact that these guys could not is telling.

Never made that claim whatsoever but I would think you, of all people, would understand how the incessant whining about this team gets old. You left the site because of a basher "and others coming to his rescue". Pretty ironic.

Pretty funny that the only ones taking issue with my statement are the same ones bitching about the Dolphins.

That's ironic coming from the guy who feels obligated to lecture everyone, every time they have something positive to say about the team.

Every time someone says something positive about Tannehill, you have to point out how bad he actually is....classic.

Sounds like an antagonist to me. Weren't you the one who called everyone on a certain post...a bunch of pussies? How's the view in that glass house?

I hate Ireland up to this point, but I've essentially wiped the slate clean and think we need to see how his FAs and draft picks, and the team in general, perform this year before resuming the "change GM" chorus. Leaving aside how we got there, we do have a good cap situtation and lot of draft picks, and signed some pricey FAs and added 2 WRs which we desperately needed. So it could be worse, but his leash is short, IMO.

I disagree completely.

Not saying these guys are brilliant or anything. Just that different things attract different fans and since the don't have a title contender to win over the young'uns they are doing all the other stuff they can do now while they try to build one.

kids with no real skin in the game emotionally can certainly choose to root for the same team their favorite celebrity roots for or owns a part of.

Heck, part of what drew me to the Dolphins when I was 5 or 6 was the colors and the fact they had a Dolphin as their emblem. It certainly wasn't the Robbie Family or the weather in S. Florida.

The other part was they were winning. But that was 40 years ago and a completely different era when it comes to access to the team and information.

Yo Truth -- if these guys ain't brilliant we don't want 'em. Can you dig it? We deserve brilliant because we're the sun peeps and like sunshine, salt water, girls with tight bottoms and jet ski yippie into the gazebo barbeque and lick your fingers while you're at it sweetheart (talkin' to my imaginary dirty blonde babe in a nearby universe).

Such insanity. It's true Truth -- being a my yammie dolphin fan has been a tad over the top psychotic for like 15 to 20 or thereabout years. I mean that's a life sentence and every promised "savior" has been a disappointment to the point I'm personally starting to doubt the Easter Bunny is for real. See what I mean.

>To all you armchair GMs, Ireland is doing fine.
He picked a great coach, a great QB, and has set this team up to make huge strides with a boatload of cash, and a bevy of draft picks.

Without a lot of copy paste I have to agree with SoCals summary, and am willing to let this play out.

1. Truth is because of the draft and the salary cap, no one changes the talent pool in a year. Add in the wasted churning both before and after Parcels stint, and we all have a long time coming to see us where we want to be.

2. In hind sight Parcels strategy was simply outdated and a flop!
- He was however the big man and Ireland did everything he could to populate the team with his kind of players
- Then when it was obvious that he was failing, he did his duckout act. (again)

3. As stated above, Ireland shifted gears once he got the reins and brought in Philbin and began immediately in getting him help and adjusting personnel to his needs. The right QB, changing out from the old regime player profiles to what Philbin needs and wants.
- There is no conflict between Philbin and Ireland and I think they are turning out to be a great team thus far

I for one would like to see some continuity to this teams management and I think we have better pieces in place now than ever before since Shula and Marino were out.

The finishing act for Ireland will come with the draft and hopefully perhaps picking up Grimes or a quality CB prior.

I think We have an exciting roster now and look forward to a lot more interest in watching this offense play

- Have a nice handle on the finances
- New exciting QB with weapons
- Offloaded a lot of the prior regime heavyset footprint
- A new and exciting offensive scheme & coaching staff
... my God how did we sit through 3 point Sparano for so long?
-

I can't speak for everybody here but what got me into football was family.. Growing up it was something I would watch or go to with my Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Mom, Uncles, sisters and family friends...IMO The NFL model has always been to draw the younger generation from the family, not Fergie or J-lo... Treasure takes his sons to game, and shares the Dolphins with them as Father son....That is what Miami Dolphins football means to me.. Not some rebranding of everything, to try and make it cool or fresh... If we just win, you could have kept everything the same, and not missed a beat... But the Change that has taken place instead represents a lot of the recent shortcomings rather the past successes of our franchise.. The history and tradition of our franchise is the only success we have at this point.. The changes don't remind us of that IMO..

I want to go to the Dolphins game because J-Lo is co-owner and I want to see her walk down the orange carpet.
