That sure sounds like what his point is. The idea of slowing the development of your Rookie, Franchise, top ten QB to marginally accelerate the development of your 3rd string, undrafted FA, QB seems puzzling to say the least.
Of course, there's also the point that we weren't out of everything all last year. We were actually in the playoff hunt until the end of week 16.
Not sure there was anything to be gained by sitting Tannehill for Devlin in week 17 at New England.

Totally disagree.
Moore is an insurance policy in case RT gets hurt and misses a few weeks.
They think they are a playoff team next year. Moore is insurance that run at the post season doesn't get cut short by an RT injury.
That's all.
There is zero chance Moore unseats RT if RT is healthy because even if he were to "regress" to the point he is losing every game, throwing 2 int's for every TD...that he sinks to the point where he should never play football at any level ever again, you leave him out there and put yourself in a position to write him off and be in a position to draft his replacement.
Going 6-10 to 9-7 with moore doesn't help this franchise at all.
I would agree that they didn't sign Moore in case RT regresses, but he isn't a bad option either way.. He is a good leader, a good vet who helps in the QB room and as a second set of eyes for RT on gameday. I am pretty sure RT was a lobbyist to keep Moore.. If Moore and RT didn't have a good friendship and working relationship they never would have signed Moore this contract...

Yeah you guys are probably right, my original thought was Ireland covering his bets in case Tanny fails, but in reality, if Tanny fails Ireland is toast. And you are right Crowder, I read somewhere that RT was lobbying Moore to stay in Miami.

Before I answer the posts below. I'm not suggesting that Devlin be elevated above Moore. If Moore has signed with us, the question now is do we ditch Devlin and draft another QB late round to take his THIRD place.
Before Moore signed, the question was more critical, and that would have been, How reliable a backup would Devlin be?
I was, in a manner of speaking, criticizing the lack of play by Devlin on the grounds that had Moore walked, we would be in a more precarious position than now.

Did you actually read this thread jlyell13... Or did you just want us to repeat the whole conversation?

I think Patterson could come in and contribute right away but it may be in a limited role. With his skill set (yac ability) he would be a great slot receiver. He has a great ability to weave thru traffic and could take short passes and turn them into long gains. I'm not sure about being a long bomb threat. That remains to be seen. I don't think that was his role in Tennessee as that seemed to be Justin Hunter.
If we can get Mike Wallace for the deep threat, Hartline as a "do it all" type receiver and Patterson primarily in the slot, the sky is the limit for this offense. That leaves Hartline and Patterson single covered.
Assuming we get a decent seam threat at TE....
We could see numbers like this....
Wallace 1200/8
Patterson 900/7
Hartline 1000/6
TE 700/8
That puts Tannehill at 3800 yards and 29 TD's not including other receivers (Bess) and RB's. That's a pretty formidable 4 WR set!

I'd consider Patterson a deep threat.
Haven't seen anything from Allen that puts him in that category though. Maybe he goes sub 4.40 at his pro day but until then he's not in the same category as Patterson.
Not sure where them mention of Allen came from but I would say Patterson could be a deep threat eventually but was just thinking he may need some time to learn all the positions/routes/techniques and Wallace would assume that role until Patterson could take over. He has the speed for it but I didn't see much from his scouting report/highlights to think he could do it right away.
Patterson:
Strengths:Looks to turn upfield immediately after the catch. Very good with slants, quick head fake out allows for inside release, strong step forward, body catches to prevent pass breakup while shielding corner. Good vision with the ball in his hands, cuts upfield when he sees a lane. Used occasionally at running back, has the speed and wiggle to beat defenders to the edge while utilizing hesitations moves. Very nimble on his feet, especially for size.
Weaknesses:Consistently a body catcher, even when it is not necessary. Was not frequently asked to go up and get the football at its highest point. Large number of his snaps start while off the line of scrimmage, allows for a better release. Doesn't use his hands enough against a jam.
That pretty much spells slot receiver in his first year.

I'm stoked that Moore is staying! He's a TEAM PLAYER who's totally unselfish; highly supportive of Tanny and well respected in the locker room - The dude is worth every penny he makes. He opened a lot of eyes and proved that Chad Henne wasn't the answer in Miami.
Matt Moore is the epitome of a solid backup, and I'm relieved that he didn't become a Jet. That could have easily happened which could have surely bit this team in the ass down the road.

I dont know what else to say about a qb who was in the league for 6 or 7 years and gets benched for a rookie qb who was a wide receiver in college and played QB for 3 snaps.
And i will add if moore starts we are in serious trouble. Time to draft another qb next year if this happens.
But im positive it will not happen. And now there is even a lesser chance that the real deal will have some serious weapons to throw to.
