Got to give kudos to Alex Marvez....he was spot on with the Hartline deal...while it appears to be 6mill per year... I bet the last season is backloaded?..which mans that this is a 4 year deal... The last year is probably like 9 million non guaranteed...
Which means that it is really a 4 year 21 mill contract...costing us 5.2 million per year...
And this year is only probably counting like 3mill against the cap...always lower in the first year...

It only includes $12.5M in guaranteed money. We'll have to see the detail, but it's most likely really a 3 year deal worth $12-15M. With that little guaranteed money, Hartline likely won't see the last couple years of the deal, unless he's playing at a really high level that warrants it.
Too many times as Dolphin fans, we wait and wait for a drafted player to step up and they never do.
Sean Smith, Vontae Davis, Jared Odrick, John Jerry etc, etc. These are players that never really realized their potential.
It is good to see a player drafted in Miami (especially a WR) step up and turn the corner and meet the position benchmarks (1k receiving etc).
Paul Soliai, Brandon Fields, Mike Pouncey and Rashad Jones are others (on a short list)that are making the leap to the upper echelon of NFL players. Hopefully young players will start doing it earlier and more often.

Well Sean Smith certainly has the physical tools and did enough to get out of Miami with what will probably be a boat load of money. Replacing an even somewhat efficient corner back is tough, and after the Davis release we need to replace two now.
Truth- I read it is 5 years 30.775 million with 12.5 guaranteed..

I like the 3mm cap hit this year, but what is the cap hit in years 2 and 3? We've got the space this year for a bigger cap hit than that, hopefully the 2d and 3d years don't balloon up so much

Good contract we did not drop the bucket of money at this guys feet.
I am glad he is on board. I hope we get Wallace and Hart turns out to be the killer #2 that a lot of people think he is.

Other than the $12.5M guaranteed, the details of the contract aren't known yet. People should actually be rooting for a bigger cap hit this year, when we have the room to absorb it. You always have to pay the piper eventually. Take that hit early, and it's easier to move on later if things don't work out.
One thing to remember with Hartline is how many times Tannehill overthrew him on deep, would-be TDs. Just hitting him on a few of those would have made him a 1200 yard, 3 or 4 TD WR.

I think that perception is largely overblown on this site.
Tannehill had a very good ranking on long balls last year according to PFF. It just get's magnified based on one or two throws.
It's like Dolphins fans can never be happy. The fact is that Brian Hartline has led this team in yards per catch every year he's been on the team, including when Ted Ginn was here running deep routes all the time, and when we were paying a fortune for Brandon Marshall. And the entire time, he has been the only member of the WR group to learn all of the WR positions. You can line him up anywhere, and he has proven he can be a 15 yards per catch guy year in and year out. That's valuable.
It is no secret Tannehill had timing and accuracy issues last year. That is not overblown, Ireland and Philip both said the same thing.. Tannehill was not accurate with most of his long routes.
What is PFF definition of long ball, maybe that is the difference..

PFF tracks "deep passing" as throws that were targeted 20 yards or more downfield.
Tannehill had 51 such attempts, comleting 20 of them, and two others were dropped by the receiver. That resulted in a 43.1% accuracy rating, which was 7th best in the NFL. Tannehill's 51 such attempts were tied for the lowest among the 23 QBs that were ranked. His accuracy percentage was better than Stafford, Eli, Brady, Rivers, Flacco, Schaub, Cutler, and Romo.
Eesti- I understand PFF a little better now, RT was pretty good around 20-25 yards, he just wasn't very good beyound that at all...
