Every team in the NFL knows Miami's first priority this off season is signing Mike Wallace. Now, knowing that, there is a scenario that could pop up that would make it difficult for Ireland to sign Wallace.
Miami is already going to have to pay some big bucks to get Wallace, and they will also have competition from other teams that are also serious about signing him. what could happen also, is that at least one other team jumps in, who, in reality, has no intention of signing Wallace, but are in it to get Miami to go so high that they can't afford to go after any other top rated FA.
So, if the bidding gets out of hand, what should Ireland do? Should he continue in the bidding war, or should he just pull out and hope for another FA WR and also the draft? Of course, we all believe that Ireland, no matter what happens during FA, will still go after at least one WR in the draft, and my guess would be the first pick in the second round.

out of hand is out of hand.
If his price is too high, then the latter is option is better IMO
We shouldn't make Wallace the highest paid player on our team. I would low ball him and let someone else overpay... Big salaries to a guy like Wallace is not good for a team IMO, especially if we don't pay Bush, Long, Fasano and or Hartline.. You can't low ball all your own guys and overpay for Wallace IMO.. I think he is worth a 3-4 year deal around 8-9 a year.. That is all I would pay for any of the big 3 WR FA's.

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.
Nietzsche
If anything Cap, Ireland has shown a propensity to NOT overpay for players since Parcells left.
He won the stare down with Soliai. He let Taylor go to the Jets. He hasn't thrown big bucks at any of our own FA's. He didn't spend big in FA last year or over pay for Matt Flynn (despite the ENORMOUS need) he wouldn't over pay for Kyle Orton in picks or in contract.
Frankly, no matter how much anyone likes or dislikes Ireland, they have to acknowledge that he is very good at sticking to his gameplan. That is to say, he sets a value on a player and doesn't cave to fan pressure to overpay to appease the masses.
I think Ireland will set a top figure for each FA target and an order to go after them. When negotiation go above his comfort level he'll move on to the next option.
I still believe Jennings is their top target. The leak about Wallace being the top target could just be to drive down Jennings' demands. Everything that gets leaked gets leaked for a reason. If the leak about Wallace came from Miami, you can rest assured that it's just posturing.
I've been saying this all along. Why would Wallace pick Miami? We have a young QB and an inexperienced coach. We play in a division with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Wallace has no ties to south Florida, and no ties to the coaching staff. He's never played in a west coast offense. If another team is offering close money, why would he pick Miami?

I don't see it being a major trade to land Austin, maybe a 4th this year?

Austin didn't renegotiate his deal in order to be traded.
And Austin has been primarily a slot WR for Dallas over the years. He doesn't solve our need. When you look at where the vast majority of his production has come from, it is out of the slot. We need help outside.
