This is gonna be bad for the kid. I feel sorry for the kid. They thought that the Manti Te'o controversy was going to take off in this direction but it all came down on the jokester.

The NFL locker rooms are probably not great places for a gay person. Remember all the flak that Magic got when he first announced he had AIDS (or more probably HIV)?

Multiply that by one hundred times and you get what the reaction would be to a gay football player.

I thought that the first gay athlete would probably come out in baseball or even basketball rather than pro football.

A woman would receive less slack.

The name of my sermon is "More damn to the reporter who revealed this than even to the GM who actually asked it" ....even if it is dumbas_ Ireland.

why shouldn't the reporter report it? and if the player was so embarassed by the question he wouldn't have been telling it to the repoter anyway.

Well, that's assuming that the player leaked the story.

Honestly here, I could care less about the players sexual orientation. If he's not coming out saying he's gay and causes no locker room issues then I dont care. IMHO that only means he's being a team first guy and he's not shoving his sexuality down our throats(and I mean that in only the MOST figurative way possible).

I have mixed feelings about this issue because well I'll just say that I would not want an openly gay player in the locker room if I played on a professional pro team especially football. However statistics say that their are some that are indeed in the league, and have been for some time. I would want to know before I draft this player if I were the GM because it could cause a problem in the locker room. However one's sexuality in today's world is a private matter between that person, and his maker. Their is no right or wrong answer it seems too me, as professional football is different from other professions. The laws of the land can't be violated even in the NFL. I think the GM person opened up a big can of worms that this league does not need to be opened up right about now. Maybe their are rumors that Nick Kasa is gay if so would you as the GM want to know before you drafted this player I would. Tread lightly is all I can say without getting into trouble on this board. Homosexuality will never be accepted in the NFL I'm afaid this player would be singled out, and subject to deliberate injury if he was openly gay in the locker room. That might be the saddest part of this story.

I wouldn't have a problem with an openly gay player on my team.

I just wouldn't want to shower with him.

For me there's a difference between a player openly admitting they are gay if asked, and a guy being publicly, openly gay all the time.

I don't give a rats ass what someone does in the privacy of their own home with another consenting adult as long as when they show up to work they are professional.

I do care if they are flamboyant about it because it will make people uncomfortable and effect the teams chemistry in a negative way.

What if the player hits on other players in the locker room? How would you feel then? I am sorry, but I am not a homophobe. My son plays on a basketball team, and his coach is a lesbian. I did not like it at 1st, but hell it's not me, and she does not flaunt it when her partner is around which is every game. If they did my son would not be on her team. Now I would feel the same way about a gay player. If you are keep it to your self, and respect the other players, and all should be fine.

Finshady, gays don't hit on straight men any more than straight men hit on gays. You have to think about a gay man seeing a woman when he sees a straight man. He has no interest. I've got a buddy who has kids who are trying to break into Hollywood. Their agent is a gay guy who I have known for years. Not once has he tried to hit on me. My buddy had a devastating stroke and we are involved in litigation with his old skilled nursing home. The Hollywood agent has a law degree from Northern Illinois and was over my buddy's house with my buddy and his wife and I discussing the pleadings we will be filing.

The Hollywood agent said that although he is Gay, he resents White gays comparing their experience with the Black experience. He was upset but I reminded him that although every discrimination is different, all discrimination has its genesis in the same thing and that thing is hating on people because of a characteristic they were born with.

Wow. Here I was telling a gay guy not to be mad at other Gay guys for feeling that their discrimination was the same as discrimination against Blacks but they were right.

So I don't know what you mean by "flaunt." I objected to THE Truth saying as long as they are not "flamboyant" because a person can be obviously Gay and thus "flamboyant" without ever intending to "flaunt" their gayness.

Some gay guys don't have to tell you they are Gay because they are "flamboyant" but others do have to disclose it unless they "flaunt" it by, as you suggest, hitting on straight guys.

So don't discriminate against the "flamboyant" ones because they are just being themselves. However the ones who "flaunt" it run the risk of a backlash from others, not because of who they are, but because they are trying to intrude on the life of others by hitting on straight guys, which, by the way, really doesn't happen.

You don't have to re-assure us you're not Gay, Finshady. We assume that you are glad you like women.

How do you know that the last post wasn't said with a sense of humor?

NOW who is it that lacks a sense of humor?
