Manti Te'o Interview

Came across like a human being when he met the press. What if he falls to our third overall pick which is the second pick in the second round?

He did nothing against Alabama which makes me feel like he was overhyped, & I'm not so sure what he's made of besides stupidity after being taken for such a sucker with his nonexistent online girlfriend.

It is amazing what some time and a good public relations coach can do for a guy.. He came across night and day different then his other interviews prior... Not sure how to take it, I guess u give him credit for learning to come across a bit more mature and level headed.

No doubt he's a good guy, and I wouldn't let that drama affect his draft stock. What makes his value decrease in worth more noticeable in my mind though is based on his performance, or lack thereof I should say in the BCS Championship game.

I thought he could waltz into the NFL and make an immediate impact on any team...up until that day. That was the closest to an NFL caliber opponent for him to prove himself against and he couldn't produce. It's as though he wasn't even there.

Playing against SEC talent is not the same as Notre Dames undefeated schedule that is for sure..

808, good point about the BCS game but if the girlfriend had been real, then no one would blame him. So if, and it's a big if, he really believed she was real then... But if he knew he was lying then, that's another thing.

Slipstream, great one! I love it.

Crowder, yeah, that's how I saw it. In the other interviews, it was flake city but like you imply, it could all be PR and when you sign him, the PR people won't be playing, he will.

Manti Teo may have been coached. Lots of people who are or become "celebrities" or infamous in the public eye can be subjected to unrelenting criticism for every word they utter. Consequently, getting some coaching in advance, practice if you will, is a smart thing to do. Remember, even though he attended an academic school, he's still a young guy, hardly polished and savvy enough to take on the highest level of scrutiny the media and public can bring.

I saw his NFL combine numbers for the broad jump (9'5 inches) and his 40 yard time (4.81); numbers don't support a superman athlete. Yet, he's a guy that achieved most of the season, but for the BCS game. I wonder how much of his lackluster performance there was due to the nonsense about the "girl friend?" That stupid stuff was about to become very public. IMO it could have made it difficult for him to stay focused. I suppose it's just as easy to say he was overrated and it is to say he was facing public ridicule and was not on his game. We can only guess.

I do believe that TEO's value has fallen sharply because of that nonsense as well as his average combine numbers. I see him slipping from being picked by a team in need to a team well stocked with talent.

I just don't see why people consider him a great player anyway. Look at his stats, very few sacks, yes a lot of INTs for a LB but come on, that's not really the measure of an NFL LB. Hell didn't AJ Edds have a lot of INTs in college. Plus apparently he is slow and got blown up in his one game against the closest thing he faced to NFL caliber talent vs ALA. Leaving aside his fake dead girlfriend, what is the fuss over this guy?

It is not hard for a young kid to deal with the media scrutiny if he has nothing to hide.. It gets tricky when u think u can get one over on them.. I can tell you one thing for sure, this kid better take good notes at the rookie symposium.. For every gold digger and financial fraudster in the country has a big mark on him.. I wonder if he plans to invest his signing bonus money with one of those famous Alabama casino resorts...

This kid is just a smaller and slower Rey Maualuga. No way I would spend a first round pick on him. Maualuga is not a good MLB. He is a two-down player and a liabilty in coverage.

Teo ran a 4.83 40
Maualuga ran a 4.78

They would be outrun by offensive lineman from this draft.

Te'o has something to prove now that his value has declined. I hope he makes a lot of naysayers sit up in total surprise that he really is a very good ball player. As always--time will tell.
