I wouldn't want the burden of paying him what he wants either...let alone what the Jets would want to trade him within the division.. I think we need to build through the draft... If we can't then we need to find another GM.. How many high priced FA from another team did the Patriots, 49ers, Ravens, or Green Bay sign the last couple years... Not to many, and nobody for 60 million that is for sure...

So a pair of 2nd's or a 2nd and a 1st for the right to pay him 18-20 mill a year?

A trade? Nothing!!!
The Jets would want a truckload of return for him. Miami is a young team as it stands, and plans on getting younger with this year's draft.
Anyone here have the crystal ball to let us know if his injury will be completely healed and will play the way he has been, earning the name "Revis Island?"
Along with that, his contract is going to be ridiculously high. I'm not sure what it is currently, tho.
Now, if Miami was that "one" player away, then I would say go for it, but Miami is far from that.
If you want players like Revis (best at their position) then you have to draft them. It is the only way that makes it affordable. There are only about a handful of guys in the league that I would pay the kind of money Revis wants....and most are QB's other than Calvin J...

Exactly. Then you have to re-sign them before they hit free agency and/or you are forced to use the franchise tag. Even then they might not give you a hometown discount.
If I were GM, there isn't a player or a position other than QB I'd spend $15 mill (or more) a year on...even Calvin Johnson.
One thing to keep in mind if you are Jeff Ireland is that anything more than a 3-4 year deal during this offseason binge is going to tie up cap space you are going to need when its time to re-sign Tannehill, Miller, Vernon and Martin.

Sure. But you want to pay twice. In draft picks to get him and in cash to keep him.

That's an understandable position on Ireland. But Revis won't help us that much.
He plays a position that doesn't touch the ball more than a few times a game and while he can take a WR out of the game, that's not enough to win games on its own...as evidenced by the lack of Super Bowl rings in his possession.
Sure he's a great player, but he's held out twice on existing contracts and has complained about his salary non-stop since he was drafted. he wants to be the highest paid player in the sport. If you are going to trade for him you are going to give him what he wants salary-wise. That's $20 mill a year.
