Does this signing take away the need of drafting a pass rushing DE or OLB in this draft? If so, that is great because we have alot of other needs that can be filled in this draft!
This is awesome news. It sounds like this guy is the real deal. Judging by his productivity, love for the game, and his outstanding work ethic, this guy has the make-up Ireland, Parcells and Sparano seek. I wonder, if this guy were in this years draft, where would he be drafted. I know he wasn't drafted out of college, but after two outstanding CFL seasons, his stock has obviously dramitcally increased. He absolutely dominated the league. Sure it isn't the NFL, but I wonder how the league compares to Division I football.
He certainly fills a need, but I suspect we still could draft a guy like Cushing or Sintim. I am sure we will take the best available player regardless of position. Personally I would like the Dolphins to draft a DT. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a high caliber 3-4 DT available. Center Alex Mack, guard Duke Robinson, or the versatile lineman Max Unger may be the best value at that point and each would fill a need.
I am a huge CFL fan and have watched nearly every single CFL game that Cam Wake has played in (I am from Vancouver)
First of all, a CFL team would destroy a college team, regardless if they're playing Canadian or American rules.
Second of all, Cam Wake is a great person. There are lots of American players who come up to Canada and think they'll own the league and talk about their NFL aspirations then get rocked because they didn't know how good the CFL actually is. Cam Wake did none of that. Despite all the NFL hype around him, he always said he was a BC Lion and that was that, something that many fans of the team and league respected.
Third, this guy is an athlete, and should do well with you guys. He is smallish for a traditional 4-3 defence end, but as a ruhsing linebacker in a 3-4 it would make a lot of sense. I don't think he can cover a TE or running back simply because he hasn't had to do it during his time with the Lions. Rushing the QB though is something he is phenomenal at and can definitely run down fast quarterbacks especially with the much smaller field compared to Canada.
I wish him best of luck, despite substantially weakening my Leos.
Wake sounds great. I guess he'll be used on passing downs exclusively, since he can't cover the run. When are we going to replace Zach? We still need to be active in the draft for inside linebacker, I think. And Crowder may leave, we'll have to replace him.

Well, based on what I could find on YouTube, he looks fast and agile enough to cover TE's and RB's. I wonder if he ever had to do that at Penn State.
This is a very good signing. I don't expect him to produce like he did in the CFL, but he really doesn't have to. If he can manage to get 8-10 sacks a year, that would help us out. 23 sacks is great, but he did that in 19 games, plus 2 playoff games. Also the level of talent, while better than college, is not the same as the NFL.

The thing is he hasn't covered a guy in 2+ years. He is definitely fast and athletic and can deal with underneath passes but he can't go long with a rb or TE in my opinion. Wake hasn't back peddaled in a game in years. in terms of reading routes, footwork, instinct etc etc it will be something he has to learn because he hasn't done it. I don't think he is just a 3rd down passing situation player...he'd be good against the run, especially the fast smaller guys like Sproles because he is used to chasing that type of back all over the much larger CFL field.

Regarding the level of talent in the CFL...Don't forget that Ricky Williams, as talented as he is, didn't exactly set the CFL on fire and we all know what he can do in the NFL. Wake dominated and I am excited to see what he can do.

Now that is thinking outside the box.... good stuff man... I totally agree. Cameron Wake is going to be a beast a person with that work ethic and natural physical ability means he will be a beast. The man has a 64 inch vertical!!! DROOOLING FOR NEXT YEAR!
I'm a B.C. Lions fan and love this guy. He works his ass off and is very humble. I hope he succeeds in the NFL. I'll be following the Phins closely next season...
