A lot of people on this board may have originally been from Florida, but now live elsewhere. I guess that make sense - Dolphins fans in Florida may not need to go on line to speak with others.
I think it would be interesting to see what the distribution looks like.
We've already done this but not on a poll but with posters indicating where they live. What good does a poll do except to say what we all know will be said and that is that most Dolphin fans live in Florida.

Well, Chyren, that would seem logical, as that's where the team is located and Miami fans "usually" cheer for the home team. However, due to people constantly moving and military being stationed all over the world, it is very possible that the majority of Finfans will be out of state.
According to the chart (above), thus far, it is even between four different locations (at 20% each).
grew up in miami but left to boston for school and have lived in dc since graduation in 2000. fortunately just missed the bellichek era, that would have been torture to be in boston for that!

I'm curious where people were born and grew up. I spent my childhood in Miami, so it's logical that I'm a Dolphin fan, but what about people who were born elsewhere but became Phin fans anyway? THAT's interesting to me.

I think most fans fall into one of two categories. They either root for the home team, the team that their family and/or friends root for in order fit in with the crowd.
Or they do the opposite and root for a rival to that home team or in lieu of that, one of the top teams in the sport.
I fall into the latter group. Growing up in the NYC metro area I rooted for rivals of my dad's teams. It gave us more things to debate.
He was a Mets fan, I rooted for the Yankees.
He was a Rangers fan, I followed the islanders.
He was a Knicks fan, I rooted for the 76'ers.
He was a Jet fan, I became a Dolphin fan.
The only team we rooted for together was St. John's college hoops.

Hahaha... I knew that was going to be obvious to most.
If you think I'm opinionated you should meet my sisters!
Lets just say that dinner at my house growing up was an EXTREMELY passionate affair.
Born in Illinois, on the Mississippi River (Cubs & Bears fans). Always loved Flipper as a kid and I was always drawn to living on the ocean. I loved the place they lived on the show "Flipper". Boat dock in the back yard....little kids being able to cruise around on a boat, unsupervised.
Sounds stupid but that's how you think when you're 5 and 6 years old.
Everyone on the playground emulated Bob Griese and Larry Czonka (or Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw) around the time I got interested in football (1973-74). It just grew from there.
Unfortunately, I was living the wild life during the time I wish I was watching more Dolphin Football and was more into chasing women and partying than watching sports. It was also hardly ever shown locally in Illinois or any other place I lived. How I wish they had NFL ticket back then (1984). The only games I usually got to watch were national games...MNF or playoffs, etc.
I wish you could buy the 1984 season on DVD. I thought the NFL was supposed to start offering that service.
I saw the historical Mia vs SD game while living in Phoenix. Saw the Dolphins defeat the undefeated Bears in 1985....then was addicted. Finally moved to Orlando, Florida in 1986. Back to Illinois (MN, IA, Wis) and then back to Florida again (St. Pete) in 2003. Never leaving.
Grew up in MIA saw the good and bad 72 season, cocain cowboys, mariel, rise in crime, riots. Left for college in 84 and never looked back. I live in the Maryland area now.
I grew up in Southern California and was not a fan of any of the Cali Teams (Chargers, Rams, Raider, 49ers). I think watching Dan with Clayton and Duper really turned me onto Phins growing up. This is probably silly but since I didnt get to see alot on Phins games growing up due to the region I grew up in my fandom grew from Super Tecmo Bowl on my Nintendo that was the only team I would play with. Won many Tecmobowls with the fins in the 90's.
Hmmm. I could have sworn we had a thread like this before where we each stated where we were from and it was a poll but I have "search"ed it many different ways and I can't find it.

Did you attend Hialeah High School, and if so, when?
I was born in Mass, raised in Hialeah, FL, went into the Air Force and was stationed around the world, then retired to San Diego, CA, which is where I presently am.
Ha. Ha. That's another point but it is an airport from which you can get to a lot of other places in Alameda County. And you can see the Dolphins play the Raiders.
I live in sunny, South Florida. Three miles from the Dolphins' practice facility at Nova. I see Fins players from time to time as they live around here.
Born & raised in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Totally outnumbered by bandwagon 49er fans who suddenly appeared this year after a long exile, probably because they were bandwagon fans for another team that was winning.
Born in brooklyn NY then moved to NJ but hated all NY, NJ teams for some strange reason. When I was young like 8ish (84', 85' season maybe) the dolphins would come on and what kid dont love the colors of orange and turquise lol... I was a kid but can remeber them making it to the AFC championship against the patriots. How would history have been different if we would have beaten the patsies and played the bears in the superbowl... remember we were the only team to beat that 85' bear team.
Chyren: Yes I also remember a topic like this, it wasnt a poll though and I think it was like 3 years ago, maybe longer.

A man after my own heart!!! when you are young and just trying to figure out what to do with your life is there a better pass time than partying and chasing women? I dont think so lol
