That's the way of the NFL. A new GM wants to bring in his own people and Ross wouldn't get in his way.
If Philbin had a great season, of course Ross wouldn't let him go, but saying that, Ireland wouldn't be going anywhere either, because the team had a great season and Ireland had a lot to do with that.
That's all it is, Chyren, a new GM wants his own people.
Well, we've got a poll on that. Did you participate?
I disagree. I think even Ross, reptilian brain that he has, looks at them independently. And if you were talking about Bill Parcells, I might agree.
But remember Bill Parcells had a great deal of football experience.
Jeff (Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, not Bill) Ireland's only background was in scouting.
You mean to tell me that you trust a guy whose only knowledge is in scouting to dictate who is to be the coach of the entire team?
Doesn't make sense.
Ordinarily, like you say, that's the way of the world in football but not in this case wherein Philbin has more football knowledge in his pinkie than Ireland has in his entire familial ancestoral lineage.
But betting AGAINST the stupidity of Ross is a chancy thing and I acknowledge that.

Number one, we were desperate for anyone who could play CB at a starting caliber level. This is a guy who PFF has ranked much higher than any CB on our roster the last two seasons. Number two, they were considering signing him last offseason, so they like him. And number three, they wanted to get a look at him that they can't get in free agency. They actually got to see him with their coaches in their system, in games on the field, with no commitment to him. That's invaluable.

eggggggggxxxxxxxxactly! Ireland used his mulligan by canning Sporano so I don't see a scenario where Philbin goes without Jeff, any new GM would want to bring his own coach with him, yeah Philbin could possibly hang on for an extra year after Jeff, ala Lovie Smith, but rarely does it ever happen that way.
