A true fan would never root for the Patsies just so we could have a bit of a better draft pick.

Doesn't matter if we pick 11th overall vs 15th overall, there will always be busts that never make it in the 1st round and there will always be studs found in the later rounds cough cough Dan Marino 27th overall.

If you are a hardcore Dolphins fan and truly love the team I just cannot fathom rooting for a loss against the very hated Pats.

Let the draft picks fall where they may and root for your team no matter what the situation.

I'll be rooting for us to win, but I'll be hoping we lose. We can't pick worse than 20th at this point, and since we have 7 wins with one game to go, there are 9 teams that are already guaranteed to be picking ahead of us.

I'd rather be picking closer to 10 than to 20 but if we win its likely to be the difference between pick in the 12-15 range or he 16-18 range.

I would rather see us win adn let the chips fall where they may.As truth pointed out is the matter of a couple of spots higher in the draft. With the draft beign such a crap shoot i cant see trading in a confidence building win for our(hoprfully) qb of the future for the outside possiblity that us drafting 12 instead of 16th drastically changes our future. I get the point of view and it will be a nice consolation prize when we lose to the pats but personally i would rather use winning in foxboro as a building block for our future. A win with RT looking good could also help us to attract a high end FA wr..guess its all in how you look at it.

Also if they beat the pats it will give me something to stand on among all the pats fans up here.

I couldn't care less about the draft. What will be will be. We have no control over who gets picked. We can't even agree on what position gets picked. What we CAN agree on is that it sure would be sweet to embarrass the Past in front of their home fans and knock them out of a first round bye. Watch Tannehill end the season with a convincing win over another division rival and show steady progress and development while at the same time sowing a smidgen of doubt in Brady and gang. THAT would make my holidays complete.

We have our QB. Picking #20 or above is fine with me. Look at the Top teams in the NFL now. The Pats , Texans , GB , Falcons.....They havn't picked below 20 in a Long long time and manage to stay at the Top of the heap. We don't need anymore Top Ten picks. We need playmakers , most that can be found well after the 20th spot.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

RESPONSE: Like I said, it's up to each fan. But since you are so forceful in your position, I ask.

What if somehow you were able to magically SEE, two different picks, one at say, position 14 and one at position 15, and were ALSO able to magically see their careers in the future but the careers of no other picks.

Let's say you see that pick number 15 IS GOING TO BE A DUD BUT PICK NUMBER 14 is going to be a perennial ALL Pro.

Let's say you are not associated with the team in any way but God will let you determine the outcome of this game...

You telling me that you would have the Dolphins WIN???????????????

And pick 15, and lose out on the perennial all pro?????????

Just for the satisfaction of beating the Patsies?????

I know when I watch the game, I will be ROOTING FOR US TO BEAT THE PATSIES.........

That's me. I agree with THE Truth that I'll be rooting for us to win but hoping we lose.

But you are coming across too heavy by saying things like this is not what a "TRUE" fan would do.

I think that's far too harsh.

Again, I think which ever way you root on the game against the Patsies is fine. I just think the post I responded to was a little unfair to one side.

No one has a magic crystal ball when it comes to the draft, and there is just has much chance of drafting a bust at 10 as at 20, and just has much chance of drafting a stud at 20 as at 10. I can't see any scenario in which I would want or root for the Patsies to beat the Phins. I root for the Phins to win no matter what the circumstances. As TCPF said, teams like GB, the Patsies, etc. haven't drafted in the top 20, let alone the top 10, in a long time.

Here's one:

We win and the Jets end up picking one spot in front of us.

They take Manti T'eo and he does for their franchise what Ray Lewis did for the Ravens.

One spot in any draft can be the difference between drafting a Hall of Famer or a tomato can.

Beating the Pats means nothing for this year, next year or at anytime in the future.

RESPONSE: But the flaw in your logic is that THERE WILL BE A DRAFT. And we WILL HAVE TO MAKE A PICK.

So the higher your pick, the more CHOICES you have.

The more CHOICES, the more opportunity to have a better pick.

The fact that the Patsies, GB, etc. have seemingly done better with their picks could be the fact that they have solid teams already and just mix and match the little holes they do have.

But every move has to be dictated by logic and the logical extension of your position is that we might as well throw darts at a dartboard to make our picks, right?

chyren weren't you one of the people forcefully arguing even at 0-5 or so that rooting to suck for luck was the worst thing a fan could do? there is no real difference maker like that in this years draft, especially in the 12-18 range. I hope we beat the pats but if we lose there is an upside, but last year was the one where it really would have made a difference. of course once we were 0-7 and out of it we ran up a string of meaningless wins, I'd rather have luck or rg3 than those wins last year vs the bills, etc

Also you have to factor in the fact (Do a "search" on the forum) that I was the guy saying, Cal Grad that I am, that "Luck ain't that good."

I always root for us to win, it's just I am not unhappy when we lose when we are out of it and need higher draft picks. I doubt anyone who spends time on this forum really roots for us to lose during the games

In my opinion, a "True Fan" is one who wants what is best for the team. In Miami's case, at this moment, winning is not in the best interest of the team.

Getting a higher draft pick to (hopefully) improve the team in the long run is the higher road to take.

About the only position on the Dolphins that can have the luxury to think like this is Ireland. That is his job....to get the best people for the Miami Dolphins. Normally, to be able to do that, a team must be picking pretty high in the draft; that's (normally) where the blue chippers are.

It is natural that the players and coaches (and the owner) will not, and cannot, think like that. They are playing for pride, but mostly they are playing for their jobs. Therefore, they will be giving it their all in every game.

And, again, in my opinion, there is a big difference between picking 11th or 15th. "The guy" that a team desperately wants/needs is there at 11, but won't be at 15, which is why we see so much trading up. The Marino saga and the result(s) doesn't happen that often.

I may be one of the few posters here that have been with the Fins since their birth, but I have grown weary of "rooting" for my team and they being near the bottom of the pile by the time all is said and done. They need to get their act together real quick, and the only way to do that is to have good drafts and be smart about who they sign off the street (or who they trade for). The odds of having a good draft go up the higher a team picks.

That is what I think.

Along with my other post in this thread, I also wish to add that I have been rooting for my team to WIN all season, and what have they done? Lost to the Jets, Arizona, Tennessee, Buffalo. Not good! Win those games, like they should have, and we would be talking a different story here.

The Fins players have to prove themselves to we fans, and they have yet to do that in quite a few years.

I'm not worried about the Jets picking one spot in front of us and drafting a future HOFer. They'll continue drafting their Mark Sanchezes and Vernon Gholstons. Many of the successful teams trade down in the draft and continue to pick up good players. You simply shouldn't root for your team to lose to get a couple spots higher in the draf.

It would be great to end the season on a high note and beating NE is about as high as you can get at this point so I will be rooting for Miami. WE could use the confidence boost.

Here is the current draft order. The top 10 teams will pick ahead of us no matter if they win or lose. The SOS will likely change next week depending on outcomes.

1 Chiefs 2-13 0.508
2 Jaguars 2-13 0.538
3 Raiders 4-11 0.467
4 Eagles 4-11 0.508
5 Lions 4-11 0.571
6 Bills 5-10 0.488
7 Browns 5-10 0.5
8 Titans 5-10 0.513
9 Cardinals 5-10 0.563
10 Chargers 6-9 0.458

11 Jets 6-9 0.504 (@ Bills, likely win for NY but division game???)
12 Buccaneers 6-9 0.506 (@ Atl. Most likely a loss for Tcool smiley
13 Panthers 6-9 0.517 (@ N.O.. likely loss for Car)

14 Steelers 7-8 0.469 (vs Browns. likely win)
15 Dolphins 7-8 0.496 (@ NE, likely loss)
16 Saints 7-8 0.519 ( vs Car, likely win)
17 Rams 7-7-1 0.533 (vs Sea, likley loss)
18 Cowboys 8-7 0.517 (@ Was, ???)
19 Giants 8-7 0.527 (vs Phi, likley win)

We can get no higher than pick 19.

20 Bears 9-6 0.517

Most likely draft order based on most likely win scenarios....

11 Buccaneers 6-10 0.506
12 Panthers 6-10 0.517
13 Dolphins 7-9 0.496
14 Jets 7-9 0.504
15 Rams 7-8-1 0.533
16 Steelers 8-8 0.469
17 Cowboys 8-8 0.517
18 Saints 8-8 0.519
19 Giants 9-7 0.527

NFL Mock.....

1 Chiefs, Geno Smith, QB
2 Jaguars, Bjorne Werner, DE
3 Raiders, Star Lotulelei, DT
4 Eagles, Luke Joeckel, LT
5 Lions, Damontre Moore, DE
6 Bills, Manti Teo, MLB

That's the ideal scenario.

Pick 12th or 13th and trade down to mid 20's adding a 2nd round pick.

Yes...and then trading a 2nd and 3rd to move back into the first round for Terrance Williams and Tyler Eifert. That still leaves us with 2 second rounders and a 3rd.

I can dream anyway.

I feel like we always do that and it never works. I'd sure rather have E Thomas than Odrick and Misi

Sure...who wouldn't?

There was a TON of debate over keeping that pick and taking a Thomas or JPP or trading down.

Who's the guy at 12 or 13 you have to have this year?

I don't see a guy in that category yet. Do you?

I look at it this way. If there isn't a guy on the board you "have" to have...then trade down and add picks so you use the shotgun approach by getting as many guys as you can.

If you have a bunch of guys all rated the same, then trade down to a point where you are guaranteed to get one of them.

The trade down where we ended up with Odrick and Misi didn't work out. We got two decent players where we could have had one pro-bowler. Them's the breaks. It's a whole different ball of wax if we got Demaryius Thomas and Misi as the hoped when they made the trade.

Sometimes they work out. Sometimes they don't. Just because its not a homerun every time doesn't mean you stop doing it when its called for.

I don't know enough about the players in the draft yet to know whether #12-15 is the same as #27-29 (that's how far we'd need to drop if we expect to pick up a 2d). But while drafts vary from year to year, I don't recall a trade down that ever worked out for us. From JJ's incessent trading down that cost us the likes of Randy Moss to the Odrick/Misi draft, odds are that we'd probably to better by standing pat or even moving up. We've already got 2 2s and 2 3s, I think we need to get some quality in addition to quantity.

I have nothing against trading up for a guy you believe in.

I don't have any issues with standing pat either, if there's a guy there that you see as an impact player.

All I'm saying is that when you don't think the guys at 12 are any different than the guys at 40...then drop down...add picks.

Even so, its not the theory of dropping down that you have issues with. Its wasting the opportunity dropping down creates.

If we had taken Gronkowski instead of Odrick or Misi everyone would have loved the move.

over / under 7.5? does that mean you bet the Dolphins to score 8 points or more for the entire game?

Not sure if you're joking or not, but that's total wins for the season. I bet it before the season started, I bet $100 to win $270, it was kinda a long shot, but hit a FG here or there and sittin pretty right now
