Two names seem standout to me. It seems our staff likes familiar players. If Vernon Carey isn't resigned then maybe it is because Henning likes Jordan Gross who played tackle for him at Carolina. They appear to be comparable players in terms of ability and age.
A player I liked a lot coming out of UVA was Chris Canty. Obiviously the former Cowboy guys know him. While DE doesn't seem to be a position of demand. Parcells, Ireland and Sparano all say you can never have enough of them.
Suggs plays the same position as Porter so who would move to LOLB? The Ravens let Adelius Thomas slip thru their fingers. Do you think they will let Suggs go as well?

Agreed, particularly about Asomugha. Safety may be the toughest position to play in the NFL. You can't expect a rookie to play well at that position. Players usually need 2 or 3 years before they really start excelling at safety, so, picking up a FA to replace Hill would be a good idea. We should draft an ILB and/or WR in the 1st round. There aren't any FA's worth it at those positions.

Keep in mind, Anderson, Ayodele, and Torbor have all been free agents. Crowder was still playing under his initial rookie contract.
And there could be substantial dead cap money in 2009, depending on who gets cut.
And we also have to factor in the 2009 raises for Ricky, Camarillo, and Cobbs that they negotiated during the season. And then there's the cost of re-signing our own free agents. We won't be able to make as big a splash as some people think. Plus, spending big money in free agency is not an effective way to build a team. It's not Parcells' style.
