Wannstedt compared him to Fiedler.

Good lord. The Fieds must have compromising photos of wanny.

I think he didn't want to go all out but in a way it seemed weird how he compared him to fiedler and it almost almost felt like he meant he couldnt beat brady which he has....and the other top qbs.

Wannstedt confirming that he's an idiot.

Tannehill is :

2-4 vs Brady.

1-1 vs Luck (in his building).

1-0 vs Wilson.

Brady wins the division and takes his team to the playoffs every year no matter who they plug in at RB or receiver.
Luck took a 2-14 team to the Playoffs his first year and every year thereafter.
Wilson has been to the SB twice in his first three years.
Tanny has yet to post a winning season.
Wanny's right in that Tanny still has a lot to prove to be considered in the same class as those three.

It just seemed weird wanny was the only one out of everybody to sound negative.

I don't believe Tannehill has "A LOT" to prove at this point. I think the coaches and GM do.

Tannehill bought himself a few more years to show he is capable of taking that next step. He made it clear that you don't have to spend a draft pick on a high round QB and you can fill out the rest of the roster.

Out of all the quotes in that article, the one that was the most accurate, telling and unbiased was by a guy who I don't really like. Joe Theismann.

”Well first of all, I saw a much more disciplined quarterback, and I saw basically what I expected. I saw a young guy develop. You have to remember, he did not have a lot of quarterbacking experience in college, he’s really got his experience as a professional football player.”

That is a GREAT point and one not many around here will ever concede. They just expect him to be Dan Marino.

All the rest of the quotes are nice but either biased or no more informed than your typical NFL fanatic. I also respect what Bennett said. He has had direct interaction with NFL QB's.

Luck took his team to the playoffs already.

Tannehill needs to prove he can do the same thing for once.

I can count two games taken away from Tannehill by Philbin. Green Bay and Detroit.

Do you think we should extend Tannehill early? If we wait till the end of next season, it might cost us a lot more money.. The guy has improved every year. The better he gets before we extend him the more money he is going to cost... I imagine he would extend now, he has a big property he bought last season, sitting vacant... The word is, he is waiting to extend before he builds on the dirt... I am sure Lauren would love to go from the Townhouse to the Mansion... Probably a good deal can be struck with him before he becomes a top 5-7 QB after next year and another year of familiarity in Lazor's system.... Tannenbaum surely doesn't want to pull another Sanchez move, but who knows, Hickey should be smart about it and not wait IMO...

I'm with you Crowder.

Lets extend him now while its less expensive. If it blows up in our face it won't be the first bad contract we've had to eat and if the cap keeps going up every year it won't hurt all that much to get out from under it, assuming the worst case scenario.

Just has to be smart. Everyone thought Kaepernick was the greatest thing on turf but he regressed last year after they sunk 114 mil in him. I have more faith in Tannehill than I would CK but I wouldn't spend that much. He has a 15 mil cap hit this year. Sign him now and maybe get him before the team does better. CK got his deal bc the team blew up.

They are working on Tannehill and Clay contracts right now from what I hear.

I agree, the deal should represent where he is currently ranked as QB if we are going to do it early... If we are paying him based on what we think he will be then it is better to just wait and let him prove it...

Kaepernick was extended off a Super Bowl run where he played lights out in the post season.

We don't have to pay for that.

Sign him now.

San Fran structured Kap's deal so they can get out of it by April 1 each year with little damage done.

If we're going to extend tannehill now it needs to be a similar deal.

15 a year sounds a little too much to me as well....

I think Truth is right, we have to wait and see how it would be structured, we all know that the last few years of a contract are hardly ever seen.

15m a year is a bargain for an NFL starting qb. 5 years from now it will be a steal.

Like it or not, qb is the most vital position in sports. They get paid.

Just to put things in perspective:

Alex Smith makes $17m
Carson Palmer gets $16.5
Eli Manning gets $16.25
Andy Dalton gets $16m

15m a year for a qb with tannehills upside and track record is more than reasonable.

Considering we pay a 900 yard WR almost that much....it's not bad.

At that price there isnt a lot of incentive to sign him early IMO... We get him for about 4 million this year, and if we have to extend him for the 5th year which is already built into his current deal, the cost is about 15 million for the 5th year... That is why i say it is too much, we have him 19 million no matter what for the next 2 years, why pay him 30... That 5th year cost is suppose to be a number that makes a team want to renegotiate a new deal.. If both numbers are 15, it really isnt that big of a deal anymore... I was thinking 12 sounds about right for early renewal and a long term deal with some big incentives for play off wins and an AFC Championship/Superbowl clause...

You pay him 30 over the next two years so you get him on the cheap if he stays at this level or if he improves.

As you pointed out Crowder, he's getting 4-5 mill this year. He'll get $15m guaranteed for the following season.

We are betting $10-11m in guaranteed money that he'll be a bargain at $15m per for the last 5 years.

Considering how hard it is to find a franchise QB its really not much to risk considering the reasonable cost he'll be on the books the last 5 years of the deal.
