Both lineman are for depth. I don't see either as a starter. Jennings gives us the option of taking BPA if the top 3 WR's are gone by 14. Great mentor for these young receivers.

Now we can go WR, RB, OL, DT or CB at 14 if we stay put.

Now we are free to take Gurley if he's there. Can still get a starting OG in round 2 and a good WR for depth in round 4.

This does present some flexibility in the draft.

But, If Parker is there...I would hope we would pull the trigger. If he is not... I hope we do everything possible to trade down and gain some value.

I agree. I'd probably still take one of the top three wr's at 14 if one falls. If they are gone I'd hope Gurley is there.

If he's gone its trade down or BPA...

Not a bad spot to be in.

Jennings played 67% of his snaps from the slot last year. Same year before and 50% the year before. His last PB year he played 50% from the slot.

5'11 195 lbs....not really a split end type target I was looking for....

I like the Jennings signing a lot, I really wanted them to sign him instead of Wallace a few years back, I just always thought he fit this offense better.

Our (3) new offensive lineman....

JD Walton: 6'2 1/2, 305 lbs, Played 1145 snaps for the Giants last year. Gave up 1 sack, 3 hits and 16 pressures all at center. By way of comparison, Samson Satele gave up 3 sacks, 12 hits and 15 pressures for Miami last year in 1104 snaps. 3rd round pick from Baylor in 2010 by the Broncos who dislocated ankle in early 2012 after playing very well in the first 3.5 games. He seems like an improvement over Satele except he won't be counted on to start at center. Started every game his first two years behind Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow on a 4-12 team in 2010. Good insurance policy for Pouncey. Has only played center in the NFL and college. (He was a finalist for the 2009 Rimington Trophy, but eventually lost out to Maurkice Pouncey).

Jeff Linkenbach: 6'6 325 lbs. Undrafted FA from Cincinnati by the Colts in 2010. Has the size of a tackle but played 3.5 games for the Colts last year at LG in 225 snaps to close out the year. He gave up 4 sacks in that short span. Played 408 snaps in 2013 at RG, RT & LG while giving up 3 sacks. 876 snaps in 2012 mixed between RT & LG and gave up 4 sacks. Played RT and LT in 2011 and gave up 9 sacks! As a rookie in 2010 he gave up 0 sacks in 373 snaps at RT, LT & RG. Seems like a versatile guy with limited skills so far.

Jacques McClendon: 6'3 324, 4th round pick out of Tennessee in 2010. Played 211 snaps at RG & C last year for Jax and gave up 1 sack. LG for Jax in 2013 in 188 snaps. DNP in 2012 for Atl, Pit or Det. DNP in 2011 for Det and DNP in 2010 for the Colts.

The Dolphins waived 2013 UFA , Davonte Wallace.

That leaves the above guys to compete with Dallas Thomas and Sam Brenner for the LG spot if Walton even gets a shot there. Nothing to get excited about.

and at the position of least need....He was actually the #2 rated center the year Maurkice was drafted. Todd McShay had him ranked #1.

I would like it more if they gave him a shot at LG.

These signings prove that the Phins front office reads my post and react to them. As I said yesterday all fixes cannot be corrected thru the draft. I also mentioned that experienced interior lineman have a better chance of helping us than rookies. The signing of Jennings may be a sign that we will not make WR a priority in rounds 1 and 2.

Now my draft is panning out and looking better. I make the following adjustments for yesterdays signing. I drop taking a second WR in rnd 5 and grab another lb. I really like the Parker kid from Albany at TE but I think there are 2 tackles on the board that I should not pass on in rnd 6 gotta bring 1 in.

1 Collins SS AL 6.3
2 Coleman RB IN 5.8
3 Jones LB MI ST 5.4
4 Mayle WR WA ST 5.4
5 Richardson DT IN 5.6
5 Ryan LB MI
6 Everett G McNeese ST 5.2
6 Baldwin T Ohio ST

Even after the Jennings signingng, I still take a WR at 14...the only way I don't is if all of them are gone down to DGB.

Neither of those olineman we signed are starting. They were backups on teams with big needs on oline and they weren't retained even though they were cheap options familiar with those systems.

They have zero impact on our interest in drafting a lineman early. They MIGHT mean that we won't be looking for project olinemen late.

Jennings allows us to avoid reaching for a wr in the 1st if the top guys are gone. Doesn't mean we aren't taking one if they are there.

There's no way we are drafting another "in the box" safety unless we are trading Jones.

The way it looks now, I think it shakes out like this if we pick at 14...

50% chance we take an olineman.

30% chance we take Gurley

10% chance we take a wr from 2nd tier or one of the top 3falls to us.

10% chance we take a lb, dl or cb.

0% chance we draft a safety, qb, or te.

Adding Jennings just allows us to not have to trade up or take a receiver who is refined enough to start right away. We can now drop down and take a shot on a guy who maybe has more potential athletically and physically but who may need some seasoning.

It doesn't necessarily mean we won't still take one in the first round. It just may be lower in the first round so we can restock some picks.

There are about 9 WR's who have 1st round talent. Many of whom will go in the first and second round.

This regime likes WR's who are football smart and have a good football work ethic, good route runners and I think they would like a guy with a large catch radius.

Strong, Perriman & Agholor all fit the mold with Devin Smith also being a top candidate even though he doesn't have the catch radius. I also think they would still consider DGB.

I don't know about percentages for 1st round picks but I think our first 3 picks will be OL, CB & WR in no particular order with a DT and LB on the 3rd day.

If we cannot find a generous trade down partner, there is a fair chance we go BPA and take Gurley. I also think a top CB is fair game.

Except for Suh and Jennings, Miami has signed only a bunch of bodies.

Parker has been hyped a great deal, but not so sure I would take him if he was still available at 14. White or Cooper, sure.

Best scenario would be for Miami to trade down and get that 3rd (or maybe even a 2nd) back.

Jennings is good enough where Miami can wait until the 2nd to grab a WR.

Turns out to be a one year deal with a 2.5 mil cap hit in 2015.

As of now we went from 22 mil in WR cap hit from 2014 to 3.9 mil WR cap hit in 2015. Savings of 18 mil for swapping out 3 players!!!!

And I don't think a huge drop-off in talent either, Landry > Gibson, Jennings >/= Hartline (close) and Wallace >/= Stills (as of now, we shall see). Add in a 1st/2nd rnd talent and we're looking pretty solid for years to come IMO.

Landry and still are kids......Add another wr in the first round and we have 3 talented receivers to grow up and get in sync with tannehill whos a kid as well.....For a long time.

Stills is the slower version of wallace.....Maybe thats what tannehill needed in order to hook up with the deep passes. A slower version of wallace.

Also i do have a feeling we will Go OL in the first and wr in the second. Just a hunch. EDIT: Now that we just signed jennings.

NOW the Dolphins have a proven #1! I should think this pretty much minimizes the WR option with their first rounder.

I still wouldnt take my chances and not draft a wr in the first round.

Jennings is at the end of his career.

We need another talented young receiver like landry.

I wouldn't either Sam, but signing Jennings makes us a little less apt to reach for one out of desperation. If one of the big 3 are still on the board then you run to the podium, if those 3 are gone, now you can wait a round or two and fill other spots.

Of all the recent FA signings, I think this one helps our draft strategy the most.
