I agree with your overall assessment dolphaholic. We are generally better off than last season, but the outcome will likely be the same. I expect one more win and two losses for a 6-10 season.
I also agree that there will be decisions with Bush, Smith, Starks and Long.
My belief, which I'm pulling out the hat along with the white rabbit, is Bush will be gone and Smith and Starks will be re-signed. As for Long, I'd like to seem him here. I don't believe he's better off on another team. He is a Dolphins--he is home.
If Long can't play any better than he has over the last year or two then he can hit the road.
We are not better on offense compared to last year but we probably are better off long term.
I'm not sure Garrard or Moore have ever been the type of players to take teams on their back and win games. If you look at the games we lost, there's not much they could have done. They are both more than capable of throwing int's and pick 6's as well. Garrard average about 17 TD's in his hay day. Moore throws about the same on average.
Most likely one more win maybe two. Just enough to miss out on the playoffs and lower our draft picks. Afterall they would have had the same receivers and line to work with...
Missed FG's (Jets & AZ), everything goes wrong (Houston & Tennessee), defensive collapse (NE, Ten). ST's TD's given up (Buf).
