Dion Jordan was supposed to be a DE at 6'6.

We need a tough, smart linebacker like Luke Kuechly. He's a gem like Zach Thomas. Who is like him in the college ranks that may be available at #14? Whoever it is, the guy has to start, no sitting for maturation. cool smiley

Early projections have Benardrick McKinney at average around the 25th pick.

Perryman is often considered in the second round.

Lots of evaluations will happen before final rankings but I would not reach for a MLB when a DT or OT is sitting there that is ranked higher.

The more I look at players the more I like this draft.

I don't think its real deep at DB but it looks like there are very good LB, oline, wr, DL and RB depth. All of which fill needs for us.

Only DT I've seen so far that I like at # 14 is Danny Shelton. If he's gone I wouldn't mind if we took Kevin White. Then we'd be in a position to move Wallace this year or next.

I've seen pretty good things about Goldman at DT. Some sites even have him going as high as 5th.

I do like Shelton but we haven't had much luck with those pac-12 & Mountain West guys. Was the competition up to snuff? Washington was 0-5 vs top 25 teams.

I don't think Goldman is any better than Malcom Brown and he's probably a 2nd round pick at this point (obviously that can change over the next 4 months).

I'd be happy with Shelton at #14. If he's gone, I'd be happier with an Olineman or wr at #14 and a DT in the 2nd or 3rd.

Boy did Ireland pick the WRONG year to trade up. I would rather do it in a year like this where we could get a player like Leonard Williams instead of a "project".

Of course we are in no position to do that again.

Of all Irelands disasters, DJ HAS to go down in history. Trading up to your third highest draft pick in over 40 years for Dion f'n Jordan....wow. I still think I'll wake up and it was a bad dream...

It's easy to say that now, but at the time almost everyone thought we hit gold by grabbing DJ, and especially at the blue light special trade price we paid. I don't do college football, but national pundits as well as a lot of respected posters on this board really liked the pick.

That's because before the pick he looked to be another Jason Taylor. It didn't happen.

Kevin White. You can't get #1 WR in FA Take OL, OL DL & LB later

Move Wake, Hartline, and others for some picks. maybe a first or second from Philly for Jordan?

RE: Shaq

I wouldn't view him as position-less, he had the football intelligence to start both ways (in college). That's impressive. He's also a huge play maker on both sides of the ball.

He was really a part time RB with only 61 carries this year.

The other issue may be whether he is a LB or a safety. I read an article that talked about how many of the writers would refer to him as a 230 lb guy when they believed him to be closer to 6'1 219. That's strong safety size.

Let's see which direction he goes in preparing for the combine. Whether or no the adds size. I suspect his decision will be based on what time he runs in the 40. If he is at 4.6+ then he would probably add weight and go for LB. Less than that and he probably keeps weight off and goes for SS.

All of that being said, weak side LB is not even a huge need so is he the BPA at 14?

Jelaney Jenkins is still up and coming. Why would we mess with the one LB spot that is adequate? To upgrade? We don't have that luxury, IMO. Not in round 1.

He would need to add 20 lbs to be a MLB. Would he then lose speed? It's also a projection as he doesn't play MLB as far as I know.

I would rather draft McKinney at MLB but I would much rather upgrade the defensive line or offensive line.

Those positions would have much greater impact on this team.

A big DT or the OT who can also play OG. The Zach Martin type player. He was taken high but is only a right guard (at the moment).

Still lots to be learned from the senior bowl, combine, pro day, etc.

We HAVE to find a guy that is ready to start and make an impact from day one. That is a given. We also need to find one or two more that fit that criteria.

Once again, more media speculation from people who don't know much about this team.

I wouldnt be mad if we upgrade the OL or DL.....But the LB position needs to be addresed early as well.

Mel Kipper:

The great thing about Thompson is he's not just a freak in the athletic sense. He's also a freak in his football instincts. This is a kid who has played safety, linebacker and in 2014 was every bit a future NFL running back when the Huskies asked him to help out there for a few games. Ideally, he ends up at weakside linebacker, perhaps in the Lavonte David mold, using sideline-to-sideline speed to disrupt attack angles and chase down ball carriers and underneath pass-catchers. He can also use his big-time explosiveness as a gap blitzer and coming off the edge. There's developmental work to be done here, but maybe not much because the football instincts are so good.

Thompson only makes sense if you are keeping Jordan as a DE. If we move him to OLB, which we should, then we don't need another starting OLB.

We have other more pressing needs at DT, DE, OL, WR and RB and this draft has high end talent at all of those need positions.

I still have a hard time buying that Coyle and Philbin, stubborn as they are, will actually make the move for Jordan.

I wonder if Philly is still willing to give up a 2nd? Last year they were offering a 2nd AND a player.

Every draftee is a project. some work out some do not. There is the exception like andrew luck or dan marino that from day one they excell and play at pro bowl level.

But again the mayority of drafted players are projects.

I'm not trading him now. I'd rather move him to his natural position OLB and see what happens. He still has tons of talent and upside. I'm not giving that up for pennies on the dollar.

I agree but you aren't as stubborn as JP. If they refuse then we may as well deal him.

I would love to see him at OLB!

I would get rid of all the underachievers and let Tripp compete with a rookie for the starting MLB spot. Jenkins at WLB and Jordan at SLB.

Top 10 defense

SDE Wake (on passing downs only). Shelby in base.
NT Dan Williams
3T Starks & rookie
WDE Vernon and McCain

SLB Jordan
MLB Tripp & rookie
WLB Jenkins

CB Grimes
CB Chris Culliver
CB Davis, Taylor & rookie

FS Da'Norris Searcy or Devin McCourty
SS Jones

Tripp showed some coverage ability in pre season. I still hope he will develop and become an every down LB in the NFL.

Never seen someone like wheeler make a play like that. An open field tackle in a screen. Saw tripp make a couple of them but in pre season. We will see. He needs to stay healthy though.

I wouldnt want to get rid of jordan until he gets playing time for a full year. It would be a shame if he goes somewhere else and becomes great. He might have jason taylor talent.

Some one needs to teach him the OLB position.
