Yup. HE was our acting HC (Bowles that is) but answer me this (I love that phrase), how do we hire Philbin, a man who couldn't even get to be HEAD coach at a junior military academy and who had 22 other ASSISTANT coaching jobs, as our HEAD COACH, instead of just simply giving Bowles the PERMANENT job of HEAD COACH?
Todd Bowles is 51 and just got his first real HC job, Joe Philbin was 50 when he got his, why are you so hung up on the fact Philbin was a first time HC? Plenty of other stuff to complain about but you keep bringing up something so insignificant. There's been a ton of first time HC's that succeed in the NFL.
I notice you did not address the 22 other assistant coaching jobs, including one at the junior military academy level, he had and no one else at high school, college, or pro felt the necessity to give him a head coaching job except for the Brilliant Ross.
Why don't you address my points instead of constantly asking me why I don't like Philbin? That's getting old too.
I don't like him because he's a lousy coach who makes horrendously stupid game time crucial MIS-decisions! Now it's time for you to move on from why I don't like him and/or address the arguments.
I don't address your points of "22 other assistant coaching jobs" because I think they're insignificant and have nothing to do with Philbin being a good/bad coach either way, like I said there's plenty of first time HC's with 22+ years in the coaching ranks without ever getting a top job. If you said it once I wouldn't even notice, but on the 100th time of repeating the same mantra........

What is your source for the 22 other jobs comment? That doesn't sound plausible to me.

I hope that's not the case, Rodgers is our best asistant, and if it takes firing Coyle and replacing him with Rodgers, I think that would be a good idea.
It was edited out because it was directed to dolphaholic and mixed in an argument that I had had with JSM08. And Rick, I see you are a Philbin supporter from the post above. We went 8-8 with Philbin and would have at least gone 10-6 with any other coach. Last year, we were 8-6 going into the last two games against 2 of the worst teams in the NFL, Buff and the Jets. We lost them both, another 10-6 season lost to 8-8, not high enough for the playoffs and not low enough for a good draft choice.
John Harbaugh, Mike Smith, Ron Rivera, Bruce Arians, Marvis Lewis, Lovie Smith, Sean Peyton, Mike Pettine, Jason Garrett, Jon Fox, Mike McCarthy.....just to name a few

1. John Harbaugh, only 6, not half of Philbin’s 13
2. Mike Smith, different positions at only 3 colleges
3. Ron Rivera, Entire Coaching career in the NFL no college Asst. Coaching
4. Bruce Arians, Wrong! He was Head Coach at Temple
5. Marvis Lewis, Only 4 college jobs, 3 pro asst jobs, not half of 13
6. Lovie Smith, 11, Good example
7. Sean Peyton, 5 Colleges, 4 pros ehhh....
8. Mike Pettine, Wrong! He had 2 head coaching jobs (granted High school but Philbin was not head coach at military academy)
9. Jason Garrett, Wrong! Entire Coaching history (5) in Pros, no college (you gotta start SOMEWHERE).
10. Jon Fox, BEST EXAMPLE, had 15 prior coaching jobs, 7 in college,
11. Mike McCarthy BAD EXAMPLE, only 3 non-pro assistant jobs spanning only 5 years then 5 pro asst coaching jobs

This is simple. Teams almost NEVER promote their interim HCs to permanent HC. Same thing when we had Jim Bates. Just look at the Raiders. They demoted Sparano and hired Del Rio. What has Del Rio done EVER as a HC that was better than Sparano?? NOTHING. But Sparano wasn't going to get the job because he was the interim guy.
