Currently he is 33rd rated Qb that started this year. Out of the 36 or so Qb's who have played only 5 of them have more interceptions then TD's. Scoring only 8 TD's in the amount of games played is the lowest in the league. While RT has shown promise at times, he had a rough year... He ranks next to Sanchez in passer rating in Sanchez's worst year... RT is our future but the present is a little shaky IMO.. Here is to a better future, smileys with beer we need RT to finish on a good run to build into next year...

Rookies are expected to have a bad first season. He will be killing it next season. One thing about this team, there are not many question marks. We know where are strentghs are and weaknesses. Unfortunatly we have to rebuild that front line for him again.

Q 4 vs. 49ers

4 of 13 for 28 yards and a TD. Missed 7 of his last 8 passes

Rookies are expected to have a bad first season, that is true but, our rookie is the only one delivering on what was expected. Even Weedon with the hapless Browns is edging Tanny in the QB rating, TDs, pass attempts and yards completed. If throwing away this season doesn't translate into some measure of success next season then Philbin will be on the hot seat along with Sherman, Ireland and, Tannehill.

I have seen almost every Dolphin game I could see since September of 1967.

Ryan Tannehill is in the same position that Bob Griese was in in the fall of 1967.

HE IS NOT IN THE SAME POSITION THAT DAN MARINO WAS IN HIS ROOKIE YEAR.

If this type of stupid commentary had existed in 1967 and been believed, we never would have gone to 3 straight SuperBowl and posted the only perfect season AND POST SEASON in NFL History because idiots like Schefter would have looked at Griese and said the same thing, "He may not be the answer" because he took over a poor team that had to wait until Don Shula arrived to imbue it with the talent it took to succeed.

Does this idiot see the deficiencies in this team?

You criticize a quarterback, rookie or not, when he has a GREAT TEAM AROUND HIM and he still does not perform.

Lacking any "blow their socks off" receiver, they just concentrate on Hartline.

The kid barely has pass protection.

Our running back is a great juker but when he is hemmed up, he lacks the power to flatten tacklers. Danny Thomas has no such power either.

We only have ONE COUNT THEM ONE pass rusher that consistently puts on good pressure.

Our defense is lousy at the run.

Our defensive backs couldn't get an interception IF IT WERE DELIVERED TO THEM BY THE UPS MAN.

Our receivers drop as many passes.

Our coach calls plays designed to make the highlight reel instead of calling tactical plays putting the team in the best position to win the games.

Yeah, but the reason we're losing is because Tannehill MAY NOT BE THE ANSWER. If that appeals to you logically, then I have some beach front property I own back in my home state of Oklahoma that I would like to interest you in.

Chyren, you comments, directly above, are a fair assessment of what's currently going on with the Dolphins. Well-reasoned and cogent.

Shefter should stick to reporting the news. Not making it. He is no more of a talent evaluator than DFK. That being said, RT has not been as impressive over the last couple months...but he has not been terrible either.

I still don't understand why some of you insist on the NFL QB rating as a gauge. It is outdated and has been since it was created in 1973.

It is scaled so that 158.3 is a perfect score? huh?

It only includes passing, and not other aspects of quarterback play like avoiding sacks and running.

It penalizes interceptions but not fumbles.

It treats a six-yard completion on second-and-5 the same as a six-yard completion on third-and-11.

The ESPN rating may not be perfect but it encompases more of the game than the ridiculous 158.3 NFL rating.

RT has not been good overall but he has not been worse than Sanchez and Weeden.

I haven't really figured out the ESPN TQBR yet as it changes if you go to "expanded"....but it still looks more accurate than NFL QBR.

True assessment for the most part. No doubt there are trolls who just want to yank everyone's chain about Tannehill but on the other end of the spectrum there are those who put on the rose colored glasses (like they did for several years with Henne) and refuse to see the obvious. I'M NOT COMPARING HENNE AND TANNEHILL PLEASE DON'T MISUNDERSTAND. I'm just saying that after a year of starting, Tannehill (or ANYONE) should be judged on their results NOT JUST their 'upside', 'future potential', whatever. So to me pointing out things that are still not working like lack of points via the passing game, poor accuracy down field, inability to keep drives alive when needed are fair game just like receivers dropping passes or stupid play calls. No, Tannehill didn't inherit a great team but neither did Luck (2-14) RG III(5-11) or Wilson (7-9). But they have their teams in the playoff and even the division hunt. They have made their teams better. I don't think Tannehill has made us worse but per the results so far he hasn't made us much better either.

TO me the most troubling thing is the down field accuracy. This is the NFL not college. I don't care what great receiver you get they aren't going to be constantly wide open. The QB has to put the ball in small windows and to me this isn't a coaching thing. It's like trying to 'coach' a basketball player to jump. You either can or you can't. Tannehill hasn't shown much of this. Maybe it's the pressure(I hope), IDK but It's been a glaring problem over the last 2-3 games.

Luck makes stupid rookie mistakes every week. he also makes great plays.

rg3 is a read option qb. once that run thread is gone from all the pounding he'll actually have to make his progressions and become a real QB.

wilson is the same though he's a better pure pocket passer than rg3. neither of those two throw it more much more than 20x a game.

i agree with mayock. our offense is playing redzone football the entire drive.

give me a pure pocket passer that can read a d over this new breed read option qb that puts up good fantasy stats for a few years until their bodies break down.

Brady also almost always appears to have all day to stand in the pocket and throw. The NE O-Line has been the key to their offense for many years.

I think you are neglecting the fact that 1k yard receivers are pretty rare. Especially in Miami. Since 1999 when Marino hooked up with Tony Martin for 1037 yards, we had ZERO 1k receivers until Chambers finally came to life in 2005 with Booker and Welker. Nothing for those 5 years, not to mention the years before when we were trying to find Marino some weapons.

No 1k receivers in 06,07...

Not even in 08 with Chad Pennington. Again nothing in 09 and finally in 2010 and 11 with Brandon Marshall.

Being a #1 WR doesn't automatically equate to 1k yards. Last year there were 17 1k yard WR's out of 64 starting WR's. That's 26%.

Add in that hartline is on pace for 1200 and there were 8 out of 64 WR's with over 1200 yards or more last year. That equates to 12% of WR's.

There is a reason for that as well as many other issues. I know everyone is tired of hearing it but here we are in year one of a new regime that finally took a chance on a 1st round QB. That inability may be over. It's not a foregone conclusion that RT is a flop.

The Colts O-Line was widely panned

I don't recall that. Indy gave up 35 sacks last year. Miami gave up 52. This was the same line that had been protecting Manning pretty well for years. They were not real good running the ball. Maybe that's what you recall.

Well,

See above but for the most part I would say only to a very small degree.

With Henne, Marshall Sucked,

I agree that QB's make WR's better. Marshall is playing with a familiar QB. Hartline is performing better with Tannehill.

Seriously? They had no QB last year. This is not even close to a fair comparison. Dan Orlovsky and Curtis Painter. They sucked and will make no WR better. it's sort of the difference with Marshall playing with Cutler vs Henne.

You and everyone else here. I feel the pain.

Again...not fair. Luck was supposed to be the next Manning. RT wasn't even supposed to start this year. Luck had huge experience at college QB.

You are expecting way too much in only 13 games. You need 30 starts to be able to properly evaluate a QB. Were you expecting to win a playoff game with a rookie QB?

Have you even read what Mayock and Dilfer and many others have said about Rt and Miami's offense? It's pretty accurate to what us RT defenders have been saying.

Mayock? he's an idiot. He has dogged Pete Carroll on his picks
Wilson, Irvin, Sherman, and was wrong on all of them

Shefter is 100% correct, the jury is out. He has not proven he is the answer

Sherman likes his decision making? Did he see him throw it way on forth down as if he didn't know what down it was? Throw it away on third & long when he likely could have ran for a first?

Look out. RT has moved up to the 20th ranked QB with a 52.5 TQBR.

That's .5 points behind Andy Dalton and at least 3 pts. ahead of Sam Bradford, Jay Cutler, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Christian Ponder, Joe Flacco. Phillip Rivers, Chad Henne, Carson Plamer, Brandon Weedon and Mark Sanchez.

Not bad for a reach with 19 college starts that was supposed to warm the bench. Not exactly franchise yet but he is improving. No int's for 3 games straight. 2 more TD's and he pulls to 12:12 on the year.

Right now, all I want to see from RT is improvement every game.

Play a clean game and toss a TD here and there. If Miami can't win the game, at least keep the team in the game.

Next year he will be held to a higher standard.

I assume you were talking about the worthless NFL QB rating but even so that is no longer the case. RT is higher than Luck right now.
