While I don't agree with the selection, I have seen Melvin Gordan mocked to Miami in several drafts. As of right now he has 34 CAR, 251 YDS, 3 TD and just started OT vs Auburn.

We should trade up for Mariota.

In my defense, Joe. Not the same thing at all. As the number of the round increases from first to second to third....the number of busts selected in later rounds increases.

Not saying it's ALWAYS TRUE, because I can see dolphaholic come back and saying "Aren't you the one always pointing out that Tom Brady was drafted in the Sixth round," but usually it's true, Joe.

I would trade Tannehill and our 1st rounder (to Tampa) for Mariota. He's Russell Wilson with a stronger arm, larger frame and could run Lazor's WC/Read option offense the way it should be run.

Oh.. I thought he was talking about one of the RB's from the FSU-Duck game.

I would say MG is closer to Arian Foster or DeMarco Murray but isn't it funny that they were taken in the 3rd or undrafted? Talk about a guessing game.

I think MG is the next AP.

He's looked pretty underwhelming against FSU so far.

I see a 1 read college QB who is an excellent athlete with a so-so arm. He could be good, but its going to be a process. He's not going to be ready day one.

And in the end, I don't think he'll be as good as RT17 will be.

I think Marriotta is more like Blaine Gabbert than Russell Wilson, but who knows...

See that last throw by Winston? Tanny could never make that because he is too mentally nervous in the pocket and it really doesn't have anything to do with the pass rush pressure or even worry about a potential breakdown. He just is not, dammit, COMFORTABLE throwing from the pocket.

Why don't you guys see that? I 've been watching football since Jim Brown was the MVP of the league and I've NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, seen a quarterback MORE UNCOMFORTABLE in the pocket than Ryan Tannehill.

I'm torn but I love RT's skill set. As a read option Qb, I think MM is better qualifies as a quick twitch athlete.

First, do we have adequate protection. Every time Tannehill is sacked, you have to distinguish between a) when the protection broke down and
b) when he holds the ball too long.

I would say of all of his sacks 97% were a) and only 3% were B, so that's a point for your side.

HOWEVER, HOWEVER, the other question is

b) when he holds the ball too long, and that means even with adequate possession, 1) how does he look??? I mean, what do you read on his face? I see fear, fear, fear and lack of confidence. (a Johnny Football he is NOT) 2) does that lack of confidence contribute to incompletions, answer, yes, 3) does it cause him to overthrow or underthrow receivers on the deep ball, answer yes.

Why don't you just accept that Ryan Tannehill is a great, great, read option quarterback but he is just not comfortable in the pocket.


Yeah it's a team sport but on the rare occasions where there IS a pocket, a lot of times, Tannehill will still either throw an incompletion or simply hold the ball so long either he will have to throw it away or he'll get sacked anyway.

Yes, or o line may break down 60% of the time but Tanny cannot complete a pass more than an acceptable percentage EVEN WHEN THE POCKET HOLDS UP.

Answer: NO....you are assuming that when he takes the sack he is just doing it out of indecisiveness and not because his receivers are covered. They do have to get open ya know? You can't see his face so let's not get carried away. I saw him become a more aggressive and decisive leader this year.

He is not JUST a great read option QB. They quit running it half way into the season because opposing defenses shut it down AND he still continued to produce. I SAW him throw MANY balls into TIGHT windows From the pocket.

See above. More goes into a passing game than a QB making a decision. His best decisions were to NOT throw picks.

Total and utter BULLSHIT. He LED the offense and often he had no one to throw to. Clay was injured. Wallace was double covered. Hartline was invisible and he had Landry and a RB to chose from as the 3rd and 4th option AND he was sacked more than about 5 teams in the entire league.

Not to mention that he was a top 10 Qb in completion % when he was blitzed or under pressure.

12 PICKS ALL YEAR LONG.....and he threw the ball MORE than ONLY 8 Qb's!

I know you used to be a big Tannehill fan but your emotions are taking over and the deficiencies of the team AND coaching are clouding your objective reasoning.

Wow...that means he's REALLY preparing for the NFL. Because college games are usually on Saturdays!

What about the notion that Running backs are a dime a dozen in today's NFL, and that RBs get hurt too often; their careers are too short, it's a passing league anyway, etc.? How does that play in to this guy's value?
