Does that inner gut of yours feel more comfortable when we are on offense or defense?
When you are watching on television or at the stadium, do you breathe easier when we are on offense or defense?
Obviously, there are tense particular situations on each but when we get the ball on our own 20 yard line or when the other team gets the ball on their own 20 yard line, all other things being equal, in which situation are you more tense?
Last few weeks really puzzeled me though. Our defense was horrible. But they seem to have found their legs again. with the Offense I feel much better when I see Tanny roll out. Man he can throw it on the run! he needs work in the pocket and reading defenses.
We have a few missing pieces on defenses that should be addressed this off-season.
We wear down because of the inefficiencies on offense and lack of depth on defense.
Biggest need is definitely offense but our defense needs addressed as well.
Obviously they don't think enough of Vernon to start him at LDE yet so we still need a stud pass rusher. We should move Odrick inside for depth at DT behind Starks.
We also need an upgrade at FS and a legitimate starter at CB.
Beyond that we need depth along the line to keep guys fresh. The year the Giants owned the Pats is when they had quality depth on the d-line.
I'm more edgy when the O is on the field. Not sure what to expect.
I've had that feeling before with Bob Griese once in a while, David Woodley, now and then, Fiedler and all the other QBs this past decade.
It's not just the QB, it's who's playing O with those QBs. It was never that way with Marino. Fans, not just me, had great faith in him, pulling the rabbit out of the hat with some clutch play or TD. Ah yes, those were the days.
Yesterday I was most uncomfortable when we were on Special Teams
Our D seems to have settled down again but I think the PATS were just 'working on' running the ball yesterday which played to our strength. ALTHOUGH we did get a surprising amount of pressure on the Ballerina Boy.
On Offense the pedestrian, vanilla play calling in the first few series yesterday stunk. Never seen such a boring conglomeration of 3 yard outs and off tackle runs in my life. Ugh. It got better later on but were are the routes over the middle? hought that was the bread and butter of the WCO? And WHY with Reggie Bush can we not seem to set up a screen?!?!?!?! Frankly, I'm starting to worry about Tannehill's ability to win games WITH his arm which, lets face facts, is an NFL QB's job. If the three passes where Hartline got behind the defense yesterday are completed in stride we stand a good chance of getting at least two scores out of it. Also, while I applaud the running he's been doing of late, I would like to see Tannehill slide instead of taking some of those hits he took yesterday.

Tannehill is much more effective from the pocket. Do you even watch the games?
Tannehill is a MOBILE quarterback and his best plays are on the run.
The only reason you say that DK is that you are really so far gone that you think Tannehill will read this post, take your advice, stay in the pocket and continually GET CREAMED so that you can talk about how bad he is.
Get a clue, DK. Tannehill does not read this board.
I did like Tannehill running the ball on occasions.
I'd like to see him moved to WR and Moore take over at QB rest of season.
There was one play where Bush was out wide and a LB came over to cover him.... for some insane reason we tried a slant there instead of taking him deep. Tannehill paniced and missed that throw too.
I feel more comforable when we are on offense strange as that may sound. We can move the ball well at times and I think the players are coming together on that side of the ball. I feel the adversity this season will help them be better next season.
The defense however, can't defend the middle of the feild, and they break down far too much to be relied upon despite the groups potential.
We need more help on both sides of the ball but I prefer to be aggresive...in the NFL you have to score points and that means offense.

Why? What is the upside? Even if Moore gave us a better shot at a win (which he does not) How does starting a career Journyman #2 who is a free agent and probably won't even be here next season, going to help a young Rookie QB that needs the snaps? Its a completely meaningless season and any extra wins don't mean anything. If it makes you feel better, the more Tanny learns the better position we get in the draft OK?

Exactly my position and I started the thread because I feel exactly the same way.
I feel the most comfortable when this team is on their bye-week. I trust neither the O or D with any reasonable confidence whatsoever. Every play is like a spin of a revolver barrel followed by a pull of the trigger as in Russian Roulette.
IMO, we have one of the worst offenses in the NFL, and defintely a worse offense then we had last year... Philbin is suppose to be some offensive guru and RT the next Marino, I am just not seeing any of it.. Our offense is pretty much horrible and looks outdated, our offensive coordinator last year seemed to call and design better plays then Sherman...

I didnt say he was awesome, just that he was better then what Sherman and Philbin has been able to accomplish this year.... I agree not very flattering when they are worse then we were last year offensively.... What do you want me to do, lie to you and say this year we are better then last year offensively...

Yes me too. That way we can win a couple of more games,(((maybe ,probably not) still miss the playoffs....and pick a couple of more slots down in the draft.
That would be something.
I ve heard people that used to pick NUTS and berries used to think like that.
eesti- it is pretty simple, as you said last year we ranked 22nd in offense... and what is our rank this year my friend? Our offense rank is 28. The same stat you used previously to attack our o- cordinator last year, who ranks higher this year and last year then what Sherman and Philbin have been able to do..... I assume that stat is acceptable to you since you just used it yourself...lol

eesti, if the stat is so bad why did you use it for your example.... How about you look up points a game because that is what your offense actually scores a game...... Our last cordinator stayed the same, our team fell off in rank...
No matter how you look at the offensive rank stats is key. How are you ranked offensively to other teams in the league. Last year we were better then 10 or so teams, this year only 4... Yet we hired an offensive guru and drafted a top ten QB... That means we got worse while 6 other teams leap frogged us. The NFL is relative as to how you compare to everybody else... Also in the NFL scoring points is the most important factor on offense wouldnt you agree?

I'd agree ppg is the most important stat on offense and on defense. But using where you rank vs the rest of the league makes no sense.
Eesti is right if you want to compare this years team to last years team you compare the teams actual production (ypg, ppg, etc) not where they were ranked versus other teams.

Wow, there you go again.
You cherry pick a stat that shows are yards per game are the same and then you go and attack people.
The fact is our offense was better last year. Last year, we averaged more points per game, and were ranked 22nd in yardage vs. 28th for this year. By all indicators we were a better offense last year.
But you like to bash anyone that doesn't agree with you, regardless of the facts, huh?

Ranking vs. other teams is critical. Offensive production across the league changes from year to year. Rules change, enforcement is different. These all have impacts on offense.
But even if you discount relative stats, we still had a higher ppg last year, with the same amount of ypg.
So, yes, last year's offense was better than this year's.

Yes. An yet, the offense was better.
Was it Mr. Fieldgoal's coaching that gave us a better ppg? No. It was better personell.

Got any NUMBERS to back that? You seem to like them so much.......

What part of PPG last year was greater than PPG this year don't you understand?
You guys are forgetting that one major reason we were better last year was that most of our players were used to the system and the coaches...familiarity counts for alot.
This year everyone is learning a completely new system as well as new coaches...a system, we simply don't have the right players at a couple of key positions to run at a high level.
We will see results...if, we can add the right players at WR, TE (It's time to let Egnew play), and one or two more athlectic players to the OL.
The Defense will also improve with the addition of a cover LB or two, another pass rush specialist, and a shut down corner.
We are going in the right direction here...I fully expect the team to win a couple of the close games we lost this season during the next.
We finally have a good foundation to build upon...a thing we have not had in ten plus years. We also have two very talented groups of three quarterbacks, and running backs, when have we EVER had that? We should all recognize these things and give it time.
Ireland needs to contiue having solid drafts, and he critically needs to find a way to have his free agents pan out. Philbin and Sherman must find ways to improve the players overall, get the offense to gel better, and to improve on what they themselves do, and Coyle must get the defense to improve.
Truth points per game and where you rank among competition is the most important stats. That is what stats are all about comparing your stats versus the rest of the league. Your goal as an offense is not gain yards it is to score points. We are the same in yards and worse in points and rank as it relates to our competition. To me that makes the offense worse...
