Will he take a pay cut, or has he played his last game with the Phins?

Time to see what Martin can do

When they said it was a triceps injury and he didn't return I was pretty sure he was done.

Maybe it does drive his price down.

At least we get to see how Martin looks on that side for the next month.

I thought Martin looked OK.

Good news. Now we see if Martin can play LT. He seemed to do just as well as Long. This should also drive Long's price down. Long is a shell of his old self and always hurt, so maybe this provides the impetus to move Martin to LT and just sign a new RT. With the $$ we save if we don't resign Long or sign him to a less contract given the injury and his poor play, we should be able to find a RT somewhere (where have I hear that before)

Long is so overrated

I think it's safe to assume that the highest paid player on this team is done here. I hope he invested his 11.2 million salary this year wisely, because I don't think any team in their right mind will pay him that kind of money next season.

unless they figure it was injury and not age.

"They" being other teams.

He is done here. Some other Team will pay him on a year by year basis until he proves he can stay healthy. He is a young smart kid.He will do well with the money he's made.

There goes one of Tannehills excuses.

Wonder how long it will be until Treasure starts blaming Martin for Tannehill's problems?

I wonder how long it will take you to realize that this loss and most of our other losses had more to do with our inability to stop the run than anything else.

I remember Jake Locker lying flat on his back behind the line of scrimmage after going back to pass, getting up and running for 20 friggin yards.

Like another poster said today, we just don't hold on to runners when we have them in our grasp. They burst free like Superman out of chains.

Losing Long will probably turn out to be a blessing in disguise. No longer will Philbin be coerced to start a guy who isn't performing...just because he's making more money than most of the other guys on the team. Drafting Martin is starting to look like a genius move. I'm wondering if Murtha will be able to come back next year. Regardless, maybe we'll see the O-Line finally start solidifying as a unit with Martin at LT!

I missed the entire second half cany anyone tell me how Martin performed at LT. The few plays that I did catch he looked pretty natural at getting out of his stance and locking onto his man. You could tell that the LT moves were natural to him.

Good post Eesti. I really wish the Staff here would look more into his posts as exactly what they are , aimed to antagonize. Nothing factual , even even went as far as comparing Tanny to Ray Lucas to try to make a point. Its ludicrous .

We held the top offense in the NFL to 24 points.

We are one of the top run defenses in the NFL.

You just make stuff up, don't you.

I'm just addressing people who claim that the reason Tannehill has so many problems is that Jake Long has declined.

The reason Tannehill has problems is that he is inaccurate.

As for Martin, I thought he filled in well today. Some hope for the future there.

Long is done. And I don't care. Did anyone notice ANY difference yesterday after he went out? One more piece of 'Project Big' outta here and that's fine with me. A fine example of the folly of wasting high draft picks on the offensive line.

RESPONSE: What does THAT have to do with stopping the run. The run is what you use on 3rd and 3 or 3rd and 2 to convert. Or, if your opponent cannot stop the run, it's what you use to make a 1st and 10 a 2nd and 2.

RESPONSE: DO YOU EVEN LISTEN TO THE ANNOUNCERS?????

ARE DO YOU JUST SIT UP AT THE TELEVISION WAITING FOR TANNEHILL TO MAKE A MISTAKE.

THE ANNOUNCERS MARVELED AT HOW OUR DEFENSE HAD BEEN SO GOOD AGAINST THE RUN BUT THAT THE PATRIOTS RUNNING BACKS WERE SHREDDING IT!!!!

>
> You just make stuff up, don't you.

RESPONSE: No, unlike you, I sit and listen and read and learn.

I don't just go talking crap in order to FORCE THE FACTS into confirming my beliefs.

Not so fast. Don't under estimate the savvy of the front office. eye rolling smiley Re-signing him will occur IMO. Why? Consistency. Even though Long's play has dropped off, probably because schemes are different this year, he's a mainstay, the anchor of the O-line, and if we're after consistency and improvement in executing plays, he should be there to keep things on the right path. You don't kick off a top player who slumps one year under a new regime. It's not logical to me. He's not a trouble maker or a head case (no need to mention names by digressing to them) so, I'll be quite surprised if they abandon him. As a FA he could solidify many front lines in desperate need of a top LT. 77 will remain a Dolphins. cool smiley

I like Jake Long, I really do. I just don't like him for this team next season or beyond. His skill set is different from what Philbin wants to do with his team strategy wise. Long's durability is also now a question mark, since he always seems to be injured. I say the phins move on.

Long is a smart guy and physically gifted, I think his next team will definitely welcome his arrival. I wish him and his family the best.

I stink at acronyms and even I know it's Injured Reserve...but I thought I'd spell it out even if you were being sarcastic. I had a guy at work ask not too long ago what LOL stood for.

I dont mind if the jets sign jake long...He is injured all the time and his career is going downhill quickly.

But i would mind if the jets signed starks or hartline for example.

These 2 are of the few phin players that have made plays this year.

Anyways if martin shows he is the real deal at the LT position, Then i think we do not need to resign an often injured player. And for the money he will want, even less.
