I don't think we can bench this guy when Pouncey comes back. He is paying too well. There is talk/speculation right now that Pouncey could return for the Raider game.

I think we have to get our best linemen on the field and that would involve plugging Pouncey in at LG, IMO.

Our guards are the weak point right now. Smith is injured and Thomas has taken his place. Turner has been injured (turf toe) and Colledge has not been great. Especially in run blocking.

This would give us a tight left side IMO.

When pouncey comes back put satele at right guard.

Dallas thomas stinks. And shelly smith is injured.

I'm torn on this. In theory it makes sense, but the reality is that pouncey hasn't played og in 4 years and has zero practice reps there in this offense. Plus pouncey is much better against bigger onlinemen than satele.

Pouncey comes back as the center when he's ready. If Satele can play Guard well enough then he can play, if not he sits.

Just curious, if Pouncey was a natural at LG, why didnt he ever play it in college... When Pouncey was a guard he played on the right side... I understand that he can pull well and has the feet, but he never played one snap at LG, ever....

Pouncey is a probowl caliber center... Center is much more important position then guard... You dont put a probowl center at guard for a non-probowl player at center.... that is crazy..

Bruce Mathews, the HOFer and guy who was a rookie in 1983? One guy in 35 years... Also he started at guard where he wasn't originally a pro bowl player. Then became one, then moved to center in the prime of his career and then moved to LG at the latter part of his career... Yeah that is exactly the same as moving Pouncey a pro bowl player in his prime to a position he never played before for a guy like Satele who never once even sniffed the pro bowl in what 7 years at center... The good old Bruce Mathews card..lol confused smiley

Yes. That's the one. I see you've heard of him. I guess it was a good example then.

One guy in 35 years...

Well, I named one. I didn't know it was a quiz.

Also he started at
> guard where he wasn't originally a pro bowl

OK so that doesn't really matter to the Dolphins situation.

Then became one, then moved to center in
> the prime of his career and then moved to LG at

You didn't give the criteria up front. I didn't know there were stipulations. Again, it doesn't really matter.

Yeah that is
> exactly the same as moving Pouncey a pro bowl

> before

Now it has to be EXACTLY the same? Wow.

for a guy like Satele who never once even
> sniffed the pro bowl in what 7 years at center...
> The good old Bruce Mathews card..lol confused smiley

Oh...so now Satele has to make the pro bowl before we can put the best 5 players on the field? huh?

You are creating a lot of off issue nonsense stipulations to try and prove a point. It is pretty simple....

Bruce Mathews = good center who changed positions
Mike Pouncey = good center that is capable of changing positions and ALSO offer a huge contribution.

There are many NFL good linemen who have switched positions to help out a struggling or injured line. And no I am not a historian who can name every guard and center in the history of the NFL.

You are also really down playing the LG position and glorifying the center position. I would argue that one is just as important as the other. You can get a good example of that if you watch our guards getting mauled last week as Satele has a good game.

Again...pretty simple...

Albert, Pouncey, Satele, > Albert, Colledge, Pouncey

if we are going by what we know after the last two games.

Satele has been solid. Colledge = so so and inconsistent.

Maybe Satele finally found a scheme that fits him? He is currently rated 9th in pass blocking efficiency and 6th in the cumulative rating on PFF.

Oh..and Pouncey made the PB in year 3. It took Mathews 6 years to make the PB as a right guard. Does that mean Pouncey is better since he did it as a center?

"Guard's my position," Pouncey told the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson Monday. "I was kind of forced to play center when I got drafted. Guard's been the position I've played my whole life. Whatever position I'm playing, I'll help the team. It's coach Philbin's decision."

Pouncey has been practicing at both positions.

So Pouncey may be moving to guard. I guess the coaches don't view it as ridiculous as some have suggested.

It hasn't happened yet and Satele may end up moving but I've heard nothing about Satele practicing at guard.

Shelley Smith has been ok at RG and good in the running game but he may be a better LG. This move would at least offer more competition at LG where Colledge struggles in the run game. I haven't heard a report on the injury status of Smith other than the article that says EVERYONE is healthy and back at practice.

When Tannehill plays well, the one half in the one game, I will say he did well.

Pouncy said guard was his position, so he sounds ready to go there.

I still find it hard to believe.. Especially at RG, pretty much the least important position on the oline... When you originally suggested it, you said LG, but that didnt make any sense either because Pouncey never played LG in his life... If you took the time to watch the video clips I posted above, you will clearly see that there are serious holes and problems with Satele's center playing, mental and physical.. That is my biggest problem, Satele isnt that good of a center... He is inconsistent and has problems against anyone going against him who is a good player.. Pouncey wouldnt have those problems... Pouncey in the middle can make both guards better, Pouncey as a RG, not so much.. I will have serious questions about whether Philbin has a screw loose if he puts Pouncey at RG and keeps Satele at center... And by the way Satele also played RG in college, so he does have experience playing guards in college as well..

So to say you want to put your probowl center at RG just to keep a medicore player at center, just doesnt make any sense to me.... But hey what do i know from the cheap seats...

I agree. At first I didn't realize that Pouncey only played RG. As athletic as he is and as good at pulling as he is, I figured he would be a great LG...but only to get the best 5 on the field.

If

It's all relative to the other talent on the team. I did watch the videos but you are showing 2 or 3 plays out of the 288 snaps he has taken. The ones I saw were mental lapses and I expected that with him coming in late to a completely different blocking scheme. He is not a PB'er but he has done a decent job overall.

Pouncey

I would be more comfortable if Satele were to play RG as well and you make a good point about Pouncey making the guards better.

We basically have Smith who is very good run blocker but sub-par pass pro. The opposite from Thomas as well as Colledge at LG.

I read where Smith is a better fit at LG just based on physical mechanics and past history.

I hope they keep Pouncey at center. It does make more sense the more I have thought about it. I just want the best 5 on the field but there are limitations to consider for all different variations.

Smith to LG, Pouncey at C and Satele at RG is just one variation but Colledge has always played LG....so it probably doesn't happen and we all know JP is in love with DC.

We are not far off from having a very good line. I wish Turner could get his butt in there.

I'm curious to see how we play with Pouncey at C. We've never played well with him there, and some of that COULD be due to his line calls. He has all the physical attributes, but Satele may just be a smarter player. I'd hate to see us regress when Pouncey comes back.

We've never played well with with Pouncey? confused smiley

I have no worries that we will regress with Pouncey. I am more excited to see the improvement. Like Crowder said, he will make both guards better.

Going to be interesting either way. Tannehill will finally have his protection and I can't wait to see what happens once he does. He loves the bootlegs and throwing on the run. Pouncy should offer him clear routes....I'm excited. thumbs up
