"One guy..at Safety? Top 10? Not likely. We need an ILB bad. ZT used to be the QB of our defense. We need another guy like THAT. We've had our share of good ILBs: Buoniconti, Duhe, Offerdahl, Thomas...we need the next great Dolphin ILB."

I agree with the last statement, but I stand by my point that if we had Troy Paluamalu as our Safety we would be a top 10 D.
The improvement should come other places via the draft replace Roth w/ a Brian Cushing.
stand by that statement .. Roth had 5 sacks an 2 force fumbles 0 int's. I think an olb playing opposite of porter should generate more nbrs. We can upgrade at that position. 2 players I really am afraid of losing in F/A is the 2 a lot of fans think we can afford to Carey and Crowder.
If they combine the averag salaries of all OL spots..then that helps us out even more. since Guards make less than both LT & RT.
The 'Franchise' tag means the he gets the average of the top 5 players at his position or 120% of last year's salary ( whichever is greater)...I am not sure he is worth that since by your statement the top 5 salaries across LT,RT,C & Guard would really be the top 5 OL salaries, compared to top RB's or top 5 LB's.

I hoe we keep Carey. As for Crowder, I'd really like to see him move back to the position played by Ayodele and have us draft the next great Dolphin ILB. I've said it before: Buoniconti, Duhe, Offerdahl, Thomas. I'd take any of those guys right now (in their prime), or someone who is as good. We've had our share of good ILBs. Hopefully we'll find the guy that will follow in their footsteps.
Good point - I don't know if it's the average of the top 5 salaries for all 5 positions, or if the top 5 in reality is probably the top 5 LT salaries that are applied to any OL position. I don't know, then, if it's good for us or not.
I agree that I hope Carey comes back next year. I think he's shown a lot in hit time here and I'm not sure there's anyone who's nearly certain to be measurably better.
