This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
Many of us here on this board, and also the media, have been speculating that Miami's #1 target this offseason is Wallace. Nothing wrong with that, as he brings speed, which is what Miami needs. However....
He will be coming at a high price, i.e., $10M+. That is a lot of money.
There have been quite a few WRs run sub 4.4s at the combine. Patterson is the name most associated with being Miami's pick at 12. He ran a 4.34 at the combine. He is also a big receiver.
Now....if Miami did draft him at 12, his price tag would probably be in the $4-6M range, am I right? That is around half of what wallace would be getting.
What I am saying here is Miami needs someone to blow the top off of coverage. Wallace can definitely do that. Many have said he does not run routes very well (which I am sure he could learn).
Seeing the numbers at the combine, Patterson can blow the top off of coverage. With only one year of big time college experience, he also, like Wallace, doesn't run routes very well, but of course, he can learn.
So, since they both have the same game, why not sign Patterson vs Wallace?
BTW, I don't know what Wallace's 40 time was or is.
Again, tho, it depends on (1) who Ireland has at the top of his board when Miami's pick comes, and (2) if Wallace is actually signed by Miami during the FA period.
Patterson likely doesn't make an impact in 2013. He's very inexperienced, and wasn't overwhelmingly productive in his one season of playing in a major conference.
Plus one Cap. You're making a helluva lot of sense. We should spend our free agent money on defensive Back. Even if Patterson does not make the impact in Fall of 2013, he will be growing up with and learning with Tanny.
we need a WR who can make plays right away for RT and I ain't talking Bess and Hartline. UNless we sign a major FA WR if we try to take someone in the draft to fix the WR issue this year will be worse than last and we risk turning RT into a David Carr type---we need to get him weapons ASAP. Not good enough to play for 2014. This is the offseason we need to make it happen. Best fix is to sign Jennings or Wallace and take a different position at 12 and then take 2 WRs with our 4 2d and 3d rounders.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.
Agree with berk, with all the picks we have we need at minimum 4 studs out of this draft and another 2-3 out of free agency and this team is back. We need 2-3 more WR weapons and a TE(Delanie Walker?)
Let Long, Smith Hartline move on. Starks also if he wantsd too much
I like getting a big time DE or DB at 12
We screw this draft up and this could set us back another 5-10 years
Michael Floyd, the 13th pick last year signed a 4 year 9.9 mil deal. That's only 2.5 mil a year.
It will be interesting to see what the take on him is after the combine. Not interviewing well? Not able to answer the questions about defensive coverage? Probably not worth #12.
I would take my chances on landing a WR at 42 or so....
So you're sold on a guy with 700 yards of Div I production, NO NFL experience and reports that he did not interview well but NOT sold on a guy who was in the top 5 for production over his first 4 years...and who runs a 4.3?

No.
Why would you involve anyone in the process who hasn't been crunching tape and meeting with players since the season ended?
Ireland gets to make all personnel decisions. It's in his contract. People need to accept that and move on.

The Steelers did want him. He turned down the same contract they gave Antonio Brown.

Peterson is one of the reasons why Ireland is still here. Peterson hired him as a scout, and is a big fan of Ireland's.

There were rumors that Ross met with Mike Gidding jr from scouts inc.. He is an advisor to several teams on the draft.. When Giddings was asked if he was working with the Dolphins in any way, Giddings refused to comment..

Giving someone an endorsement or recommendation for a job is a LOONG way from riding in at the last second to take over the draft.
