We all know the biggest question right now is at WR.

There are some available FA's that could bring some veteran presence to the group. Nothing earth shattering like the Marshall addition but it still may help.

Braylon Edwards (29) 904 yards in 2010
Plaxico Burress (34) (similar to BE when pro rated to a full season)
Roy Williams (30)
Mark Clayton (30)

There is also talk of Donald Driver getting released.

I have a feeling they want to get a look at the current guys before they bring anyone in (it seems anyway) but why not do like SF and NE is doing? They are signing WR's right and left for camp. It also keeps them out of the hands of competitors.

NE WR roster: (also have 7th round draft choice and undrafted college FA's)

Wes Welker (hold out)
Deion Branch
Jabar Gaffney
Anthony Gonzalez
Brandon Lloyd
Donte' Stallworth
Chad Ochocinco
Julian Edelman

That's ridiculous!

What if Welker is released in a typical NE move? They always release guys that hold out. He may be a nice addition....re-addition.

If we spread it out 5 wide, we are going to most likely carry more recievers on the roster then we did in the past with more of a Power formation system and roster last year. IMO. I think we have alot of decent recievers on the roster, we just dont have a true number 1 reciever that we know of... Edmund Gates needs to develop, Bess and Hartline solid... Then you have Pruitt, Wallace (who is built like Marshall), Marlon Moore (fast) Naanee, Cunningham, Mathews, Fuller, and a couple of other UDFA's. IMO they need to find the guy who is a good redzone target, whether on the roster or not. I dont think anyone we sign now is gonna greatly help the position.. Spreading the field and game planning will hopefully be our WR's best friend... on your list Plaxico and Braylon could be redzone type of WRs. If age hasnt caught up to them to much...

and don't forget about the new rookie TE as a red zone target. Assuming he can get on the field.

I still think we need a ball hawking Safety.

In today's NFL, corners (and specifically the "Shut-down Corner"winking smiley is overrated.

With the influx of TE's who make plays, the Ed Reed's, Palamaulu's and the other ball hawking Safeties become ever more important.

Thats what we need.

A&O, Sean Smith actually did a solid job when we put him on the TE's. WE didnt have a safety or LB that could really cover them TE's to well last year. Safety is going to be interesting, who steps up. I am still a big fan of Reshad Jones... He just cheated the run to much last year and got burnt becasue of it a few times...

I think Jimmy Wilson may have the best pure ball hawking skills on the entire defense.

And you are right, we will see and it will be interesting! drinking smiley

Kevin Coyle the new DC is known for getting the best out of his secondary players. He took a couple of our old players and turned them into quality starters and took a couple of young guys going down bust road and turned them into pro bowlers.

The new FA Richard Marshall (nickle) has more turnovers than just about everyone we have here so I am hoping we can start getting some int's and TD's out of this defense. Something we haven't had since Madison and Surtain left.

Specifically I am really hoping he helps Chris Clemons turn the corner and utilize his physical tools. By the same token I would like to see Reshad Jones start as well. Clemons was the fastest DB at the combine a few years back with a 4.3 40 if you guys remember.

I don't think Jimmy Wilson is near big enough to play safety at 185. Bob Sanders was short but he weighed 205 and he is always hurt.

Assuming all of our rookies pan out. (they won't) I think we need to add the following positions in the 2013 draft.

In this order; (This is not a suggestion of the rounds they should be taken in)

1. WR (Big FAST guy)...maybe even X2
2. LB (Fast PLAYMAKER with good enough coverage skills to slow down a TE)
3. S (One with exceptional ball skills)
4. OL (Can't have enough good ones)
5. DL (Can't have enough good ones)
6. CB (Can't have enough good ones)

Positions I think we are set at...for the moment anyway.

QB
RB
FB
TE
K
P

I don't think we are set at TE. This will be Fasano's last season for us.

2013 draft? I'm still wondering about "acorns" right now and to see who stands out in camp...

RG, RT, WR, TE, DE/OLB, MLB, S

Are our lower level WR's ever going to take the next step like they did in Dallas? Miles Austin for example...even Patrick Crayton.

Julius Pruitt, Marlon Moore, Roberto Wallace?

Clyde Gates?

Can Brian Hartline be as good as Jordy Nelson? They are the same physically.

As Mark already mentioned several times, during the 2010 season when Marshall was inactive for one game due to injuries, the remaining WRs stepped up nicely and won the game handily. I forget who we were playing. I truely believe that we are in much better shape with Marshall gone than some will acknowledge.
