I am not going to get into specific names yet; but, it looks like we will have a low pick...so you can forget about a star #1 WR that route. Not a sure thing anyway. Unless there is a run at a couple positions like OT and CB.
With a pick in the 20's you can still get a starting LB, FS, OG, a #2 or Possession WR, RB.
I think our most glaring need is MLB. Crowder is not the guy. They would have signed him by now if he was. There have been TOO!!! MANY!!! big runs on 3rd and long, too many runs where the RB is met at the LOS and managed to squirt loose for an additional 2-3 yards.
I say we spend our 1st pick on the BEST LB in that range. I am fine with trading up or down a few spots to ensure that e get the right value for our pick, but we need a MLB.
am
WR? Yes we need one of those too. But every year we see teams that win with guys who came out of nowhere, or 2nd rounders who exceeded expectations.
So I saw take a WR in the 2nd round. As well as a Safety.
Those are my top 3 picks by position. ILB, WR, Safety.
I'm with you. ILB is our biggest need. If we can get a WR in the 2nd that has 1st round talent, then take him. If not, go Defense. We already have Ginn, Bess, and Camarillo, and can probably get a decent FA WR (after we let Wilford go). So, unless we get someone of Ginn's caliber in the 2nd round, then skip the WR.
I think you can begin to stop the run at the point of attack- DT, thats where I go for the first choice. The biggest baddest DT on the board- BJ RAJI. Unless of course Laurenitis/Spikes falls.
There will be some terrific MLB in the second round like DARRY BECKWITH from LSU or WORRELL WILLIAMS from Cal

If it's a NT and ILB, then I'm all for it. But 3-4 defenses don't use DTs and MLBs. I'm not sure what college defenses play 3-4's.
A NT's job is usually to occupy 2 O-Linemen. Unless a RB runs straight up the middle, the NT doesn't usually get that tackle. DTs do in a 4-3, but we don't play a 4-3 anymore.

#1 ball hawkin fs (we gave up so many 3rd and longs that we cant go to the next level with hill. Our I believe that our defense is good enough and just needs fine tuning fs is the spot that need the biggest change)
#2a ILB (THis is a heavy priority, although crowder has played MUCH better as the season went on I am not confident in his instincts. This is a shame cause for a 3-4 defense he has all the physical tools size, speed but he takes poor angles and misses alot of tackles in space)
#2b interior OL (Provided we keep carey we need to make sure that we can run the ball inside which is something we have been VERY inconsistent at. I honestly dont know how we are 11-5 without a consistent run game. I attribute it to a minimal amount of cold weather games, penningtons smart football play and solid defense. Although we are getting thomas and smiley back i want competition to ensure we get the best group of guys up front.)
#3 NT (we have decent depth with langford, ferguson, holliday, merlin, and i guess solai. But if ferguson goes down then what do we do? If we can get hansworth then this pick should be another LB, if not we get a fat juicy NT).
Joey Porter for the past month has done nothing. We need a speed rushing OLB so we don't have to blitz corners and safteys all the time to get any sort of pass rush.
If we don't draft a speed rushing OLB with our first round pick I would be shocked

uh huh. Ok. Prepare to be shocked. Porter has been garnering a lot of attention by opposing offenses for the last month. He hasn't done much, but he's occupying more than one guy on nearly every play.
Parcells will NOT draft a pass rushing specialist in the first round. HE knows guys like that can be picked up later on. We need an every-down ILB. If we can stop teams from running on us, Porter can concentrate on getting to the QB (and you'll see the Porter from a couple months ago).
