I dont mind Peterson helping out, to be honest with you.
If he is to lure a good coach, then good for him. But, I have been in the "we are gonna hire a young coordinator, because no big name coach wants to work for Jeff Ireland" camp.
the bigger point is that it seems like they are interviewing one candidate with carl peterson and no ireland, and the rest of the candidates with jeff ireland and not carl peterson. what kind of way is that to run an organization? and who would want to come work for such an organization. and the press is essentially mocking us, we are a total laughingstock nationally. that's pretty important when you are competing with other teams for the best HC.
what misinformation? the media had it right last year. ross and ireland boarded a plane and pitched harbaugh on the job, and he turned it down. what part of that was misreported? a serious question

It's like deja vu. There was the same thing happening last year. There were tweets and blogs that Ireland wasn't involved with the Harbaugh interview, and then it turned out he was. And that Peterson was involved, and others said he wasn't. And how Ross' plane went from San Jose to Burbank because Hue Jackson was the fallback option to Harbaugh. And how Miami was offering Harbaugh $8M a year, and the 49ers weren't willing to match that (he only got $5M a year). And there were the stories about Cohwer and Gruden and blah, blah, blah.
And re-read the NFL.com article you posted. In it, it says that Fisher met with Ireland today.
In the media's rush to tweet and blog everything as it happens, lots of crap gets out there that simply isn't true or is distorted. This is a very poor job of reporting by La Canfora, calling this a "separate but parallel" search. How is it separate? Peterson flew in with Fisher, and Fisher met with Ross and Ireland. What is separate about that? Peterson has a long history as a respected NFL executive. Ross is using him to try to convince Jeff Fisher on the Miami job. Peterson carries some football weight, more weight that Ireland or Ross. Do the Fins need Peterson to help them woo Todd Bowles or Dave Toub? No, they don't. Both of those guys would jump at a chance to be a head coach of any team. Fisher has his pick of the Dolphins, Rams, and Colts. So, Ross is trying to use an influential friend to his advantage.
well said mark. i think this is one aspect where Ross might actually excel. he has skills as a businessman and salesman and we are essentially trying to sell Jeff Fisher on this job. no easy task considering Ireland and the lack of a franchise QB.
mark, you make some good points about the nfl.com story. but the main narrative re harbaugh (the cross country plane flight with ireland behind sporoanos back, to offer harbaugh the job which was turned down) was accurately reported at the time. I don't even recall hearing anything about hue jackson at the time (this is the first I heard of it).
if peterson is just a benefit to the org, then we should just hire him already and stop pretending like he has no role when he clearly does. it's bush league
