We were Both Wrong And we were Both Right

During the Draft there were two sides.

One side said we needed a Top Flight QB Badly and that Tannehill did not satisfy that bill.

The other side said, no, we need to upgrade the rest of our team and that Tannehill did not.

Both sides were right and wrong.

We got Tannehill and he indeed appears to have the talent to be an elite QB.

Unfortunately, our o-line sucks and Jonathan Martin, who we thought would play like Jake Long did in Jake Long's rookie year, got pushed around.

Moreover, our defensive line could not have put pressure on a rodeo clown if he was being protected by Shirley Temple.

Our receivers still drop the ball like it is Farenheit 450.

Both sides were right. We needed an elite QB AND WE NEEDED A WHOLE NUTHER REST OF THE TEAM BADLY.

if RT is an elite QB then all is well. Look at CAR. they were horrible, now they have Cam and it looks like they just need a few more pieces. If RT is great, then I am content to add WR and some D next year. I think OL will be fine---Martin will come thru and Long and Pouncy are good players.

It is clear that Martin is struggling, but I think they expected as much. They apparently see a lot of talent in him, but he needs experience in this system and at the pro level. Therefore, they have thrown him out there and think he can quickly learn from his mistakes, eventually cleaning them up and become the player they think he can be. With that having been said, he has sucked so far.

I think Tannehill's struggles are primarily due to the intense pressure he was under and the lack of a running game. It seems the line isn't working well as a unit, so they are all to blame right now. Last year, I thought Jake Long actually stunk badly. I wonder how he is holding up so far.

But what really gets me is how porous our defense is right now. They are giving up big play after big play. It starts upfront where we are supposed to be great. I don't see any evidence of that so far. They are stagnant with no push and it seems nobody is setting the edge at all. Kevin Coyle has been praised for getting the most out of his players, but so far it seems that he has worsened their play.

I suspect we will taking some Hard Knocks this season.

This is why I didn't like the Tannehill pick. This team is in bad shape. The FO continually picks talent below its position. They are way too conservative.

Its not that RT won't eventually be a good NFL talent. But that may be three years down the line, which is the norm for a second rounder. But we could have had a really used some blue chip talent.... not that Ireland would know what that is.

Tannehill is a blue chip talent and I feel good knowing that we can build around him.

I don't know about that.

He shows sparks of talent, but it could be years before that talent was realized. He threw a couple of good passes against a second team defense, but threw many poor passes.

Honestly, he kind of reminded me of Henne. Maybe in a couple years he will blossom.

Our defense was without 3 starting front 7 players. Wake, Burnett and Dansby. The line was the only part making plays. Solaia was getting pressure as was Odrick and Starks. They will be fine when all the pieces are there. It's the 0-line that needs work. No QB would do well with that blocking.

I hope you are right about the defense and the 3 absent players.

*******************************************************

The way I saw the draft was that Miami, since Dan Marino retired, has never again had an elite QB. They hadn't drafted a QB in the first round, since Dan. Miami has basically gone nowhere for too many years. Miami needed a QB and, more than likely, Ireland was under a great amount of pressure to get one. Tanneyhill was there and he grabbed him. Now, if the brass didn't think Ryan had the goods and (maybe) be the QB of the future (and present, if everything worked out), then they would not have taken him. That "blue chip" player that many here have been talking about, that Miami should have taken with the 8th pick, wouldn't have helped Miami in the short-run; maybe in the future, but not this year. Granted, it's possible whomever that blue chip would have been, may have turned in to a Pro Bowler, but that is no guarantee. Miami HAD to have that elite QB. Ryan, thus far, hasn't looked that bad. He still has things to learn, of course, but he also needs help, from both sides of the ball.

You guys say that J. Martin has been getting pushed around. If that is the case, we, as fans, must give the guy some time. Remember, he was a LT througout college, so he is learning a new position. If time goes by and he is still playing badly, then I am sure the coaching staff will make the adjustment. Just give him time.

As far as the game vs. Carolina, the team, as a whole, played badly. OLine couldn't pass block and they couldn't open any running lanes. The OLine takes time to get to know each other and to finally gel. Receivers either couldn't get separation or couldn't hold on to the ball. Defense....played poorly, with a note going out that Miami's starting LBers were out, along with a few other key players. That doesn't mean if they were there that the team would have played better, as they didn't do that well last week, either. Tanneyhill -- played OK, especially this being his first start with the first team. Started slow, then picked it up. Three passes knocked down. Yeah, the OL played pass protection very poorly, but Ryan has to learn to find those passing lanes. Give him time, guys. He's a rookie with limited experience at the QB position. He has looked like he can pick up all the nuances of being a pro QB.

What about him reminds you of Henne? I can't think of a single thing they have in common.

i don't see much henne in him. henne checked down every play. RT always keeps his eyes downfield. henne was very stiff and robotic in the pocket, RT moves much more fluidly.
lazy comparison.

RT has as good an arm as henne maybe better.

Did you see the throws middle of the field about 20 yard passes on one play where the defender fell down i dont remember the name of the receiver.....that was a bullet...And the defender couldnt intercept it because the pass got there so fast.

RT has a cannon...Its obvious......And on top of that he is accurate. When he has time he throws perct spitals...

Some of you are blind with hate toward RT...

Yeah im going to say it....

If you put a player like Tannehill on NEw englands team with New England type talent....They will not miss a beat...

Brady who?

BTW That good drive where we scored...He was going against carolinas first team defense....It was the third drive of the game.

I saw the game a second time yesterday at 8 PM...

we got a keeper in tannehill..

The batted passes also...The DAM OL got pushed TFU RTs face..

when we cut the 40 plus scrubs we got and leave the 53 man team With the Starting OL Ryan THill will be ok trust me.

Dolphanking get ready to wear a new tagline when the season starts...
