I haven’t seen much preseason – but the verdict on this kid seems mixed.

What’s the deal?

Ireland gave up a lot for this kid and he better produce IMO.

Does he suck or what?

BNF wants to know.

I don't think he sucks but he does need to run harder. He is a younger version of Rickey and Ronnie so that should bode well for this team.

He's not as good as Ricky or Ronnie, but he's looked decent at times. He's a rookie working on a shortened TC, so I have trouble judging him at this point. I DO know the coaching staff is giving him ample opportunities to show what he can do. Honestly, I think Hilliard is better, but they KNOW what Hilliard can do, so he isn't getting a chance to really compete.

Same mold as Ronnie IMO but not as good as Ricky. Ronnie was overdrafted even if he did have great half seasons...or should I say season.

I think Thomas will look much improved during the regular season because Daboll's system will be fully deployed giving him more opportunities to succeed. Play calling during preseason is rather vanilla, predictable, and limited to prevent injury. Also Jake Long will be back.

And once again we will end up with a running game that does better on the left than it does on the right...go figure.

How about we put Thomas and Bush in together. If the power running game is going well on the left side, we fake that and have Bush run around the end on the right? That might work, right??

That is...if we find a warm body to play RT (Columbo doesn't count)

More like Ronnie than Ricky but we could do worse than a young Ronnie.

It is too early to judge the kid.

Normally the rookies have had 2-3 Organized Team Activities which allows the coaches to look at technique, teach terminology, teach film study, go over the playbook.

This year he is getting it in a condensed package on the fly. And to make matters worse...it is a new offense...so it's not like a veteran could teach or mentor him. The whole team is learning and figuring it out.

AND....they are screwing around with the OL. So its not like we got to see him behind an established OL.

Once we see the OL figured out...then we can properly evaluate him.

Thanks for the feedback...

There's ZERO CHANCE this kid is a Ricky Williams because (whatever you think about the dude) he was an amazing physical specimen with truly superior football talent. Not many of those guys come along.

From what I’ve seen of Thomas in college he’s NOT the physical specimen of Ronnie either – who we shouldn’t forget was arguably the BEST RB in the league prior to his knee injury. Honestly, Ronnie was my favorite player on the team and the kids amazing smile and positive personality will be really missed IMO. It’s just tragic the way his physicality was stolen away by the string of injuries…

I get the impression Thomas could be a productive workhorse RB – dependable but NOT spectacular in any way. Perhaps a bit boring. But in the mold of solid 4.0 per carry type.

Slight yawn.

BNF.
