Tannehill #3 On The Depth Chart

Just Sayin'

For all you that think I would bash Tannehill for playing poorly in a preseason game - why would I?

Third on the depth chart essentially means "No Expectations".

He's the number 3 QB. Obviously he's not ready to face first string NFL defenses. I'm not sold on the guy as "the future", but I'm not going to bash a guy when there are no expectations for him to succeed this year.

It was a simple question DF. That's what I get for being civil I guess.

Also I never made any claims about being any sort of fan. You have me confused with one of your many other haters.

Sorry. I figured you were one of the wackos. Didn't mean to get you in the cross fire. Alls cool.

The phins.com news wire has about three links with the depth chart.

Looks like Miller and Egnew are 4th. Not that it means much as I'm sure they both make the team.

Another Flop Missouri TE? Starting to sound like Clemson Defensive Ends.

He should be 3rd, now, he's a rookie.

The distance between these guys is not however great, so as time passes, and his experience grows his and the other competitors will surface a winner.

I do not believe his ranking as 3rd on the depth chart is anything negative. Nor would I see it as a huge surprise if he's pushed up to 2 or even 1 during the year.

What will be interesting will be to see how the staff reacts to the hype that rises out of "Hard Knocks".

It is my hope that they continue the way they have been and reward the on field performance unaffected by media.

Despit the team uniquely generating more reps to allow 3 to compete, I expect a pecking order will emerge in the next 3 weeks that will slot these guys and allocate reps differently.

The latest that I have read is that Gerrard will (probably) go into the season #1, with Tannehill moving to #2. Big question as to whether or not Moore will remain with the team. Supposedly has trade value, although not real high.

I didn't like the Egnew pick when it was made, and I am pretty sure he's going to be a bust. Missouri TEs have a history of flopping, and Egnew wasn't even all that dominant in college. I hated the pick.
Lamar Miller, however, is going to be a star.

I'm not sure a post from a "true fan" counts.

Why would they trade Moore? That makes no sense. He is a solid backup with starter experience and is only cost the Dolphins a couple Million.

Yeah, I don't think it would be wise to trade Moore. I think he represents continuation and a good backup to Garrard at least. And what would happen if Garrard were to get knocked out with an injury early in the season. It would not be the best thing for the development of Tannehill if he were thrown in to the Lions that early. Doesn't make any sense to trade Moore.

You consider trading Moore if he's you 3rd string qb and you like Devlin.

Moore's contract is up this year. He's not coming back to caddy for Tannehill.

Why cut devlin in favor of a guy who won't be here next year and will only be carrying a clip board this year?

DK > Why would they trade Moore? That makes no sense. He is a solid backup with starter experience and is only cost the Dolphins a couple Million.

Ditto ... 3 QBs for what were paying is not out of the question. It would be better to wait until another team (or perhaps even us) has an injury, from a trade value position.

Not enough cap hit to worry about it now vs. risk of injury (insurance).
There were a few articles saying the Jets and several other teams had high interest in Moore, and would love if we turned him lose.

why would the jets be thinking about adquiring a 3rd stringer....Makes me think they are not happy with the qbs they have. I love it.

trade for tebow and resurrect the wildcat formation again....!

unless it comes in OT or with less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation.

and we don't need the Tebow circus in Miami.

Why would they trade Moore? There would be some value in doing so, although not great. As someone here mentioned, once an opening happens with injuries, teams will be looking for a good QB; Moore is that.

No one is advocating trading Moore; it's just something that came up that could be a possibility. Trading Moore would (probably) mean that Devlin has done a good job and has the confidence of the coaches. That would, IMO, also mean that Tanneyhill has taken over the starter job and Garrard is backing him up. No longer a need for Moore.

And has also been said, Moore's contract is up this year, and there is no way he will remain with the Fins if he isn't the starter. May as well get something for him while you can.

Well, Cap. It depends on what do you value more? If you value what happens next year and getting as much value as you can for Moore since he is in the last year of his contract, you see things your way.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for the best record we can make this year, if you are looking for Tannehill being able to learn from both Moore AND Garrard, two very different style quarterbacks, if you are worried that what happens if you trade Moore and Garrard goes down and then you have to throw Tannehill to the wolves, you don't trade Moore now. You let next year take care of itself.

Pat Devlin is not a consideration.

Oops. Garrard out 2-4 weeks. Man, what timing.

My whole scenario is now out the window <g>.

However, unless Moore really comes on strong, I would guess Tanney will be the starter opening day. From what I have heard/read, they are very close; so if that is the case, why not start Tanney?

Unless Garrard can make a strong comeback, looks like Moore will remain with the Fins and Miami will get nothing for him. Moore will not be back with Miami next year. Garrard is also on a one-year deal, so who knows what will happen with him.

The only reason I threw Devlin in there is based on him playing well enough that the coaches have confidence in him in that if anything happened, Devlin could step in and run the team. With Garrard out 2-4 weeks (but with his age and injury history) who knows if he will even remain with the Fins once he gets back, if he gets back.

Tannehill isn't starting. Moore looked like a second string QB, but he didn't make big mistakes.

Had Tannehill been playing against a first string NFL defense, he would have likely had a pick 6 and at least one other INT.

Tannehill is where you would expect a second round rookie QB to be right now - which is exactly what we have.

He could be the MVP of the Superbowl and King would be a debbie Downer pissing in the punch. I see that now. Tanny Did Great , he's wrong and he's not man enough to admit it.

It was no better than other third string QBs we've seen in the pre-season.

When he starts looking like this against NFL first stringers, I'll be sold. But what I'm seeing now doesn't mean a whole lot.
