"Like (Jimmy) Wilson, who served almost two years in prison before being exonerated of a first-degree murder charge, Matthews faces questions about his past. His father, Andre, was a Marine Corps master sergeant who would not allow Rishard to play football as a freshman and sophomore in high school. He also moved around, spending time at seven different high schools.
Matthews, who ran a 4.46 in the 40 at his Pro Day, looked at home during Dolphins rookie camp, however, and talked afterward about his eagerness to show what he can do."
I don't know about you guys, but I certainly don't want players on the Dolphins that had fathers who didn't let their sons play football in high school. It just isn't prudent to invest in a player when their father might not let him play. In addition, with the moving around his father has to do, he might, at any time, jump ship to another team to stay closer. Finally, since his father was a Marine Corp master sergeant, Rishard must be an undisciplined and unruly character. What could Ireland have been thinking when he selected him? Fire Ireland.
THis article was poorly written, it almost makes is sound like Mathews had similar charges as Wilson, and then it talks about his father, and parents military background...WTF? weird

I'm trying to see why the fact that his father would not let him play high school football in any way reflects on him in a negative character way.
If you are saying that he needs a high school football experience as well as a college football experience, that would be an argument for another day.
But at least such a statement would be within the realm of legitimate discussion of his football abilities.
Maybe his father was an a_ _ hole.
Why does it make HIM a person that we should not sign?

I wonder if his Daddy was a man-Ho (with "mo" below)
I'd wager that Ireland was too gun-shy to ask after all the ribbing he took following the Bryant fiasco.

I see what you mean.
But if you take out the first sentence which is
"Like (Jimmy) Wilson, who served almost two years in prison before being exonerated of a first-degree murder charge, Matthews faces questions about his past"
it's all factual.
But when you consider that sentence, how the hell does a guy not being let play high school football equate with a murder charge so as to constitute "questions about his past"?????
I am completely serious. Matthews' father not letting him play high school football during his freshman and sophomore years ranks right up there with Cecil Collins breaking into a couple's apartment and jerking off at the foot of their bed while they sleep. It is absolutely disgraceful. The guy is a hoodlum. Rishard Matthews should join the Deisel in prison as should any member of a high school marching band. It sickens me.

Things have gone from bad to worse. On channel 6, Kent Brockman is reporting allegations that Ryan Tannehill missed Pop Warner practice, not once, but twice because he had an orthodontist appointment. Not only does this bring his dedication into question, but it is also clearly a medical redflag.
I think the real issue here is that Matthews, despite his "eagerness to show what he can do", clearly does not have the overwhelming passion for football that players need to compete at the NFL level. If he did have it, then when his dad told him he wouldn't be allowed to play high school football, Matthews would have told that Marine Corps master sergeant, and presumably bread-winner for the family, to go screw himself.

I seem to remember reading he was injured and he ran poorly at the combine.
In a deep WR draft a bad showing or two will push you down the pecking order.
