peter king thinks he's a good signing---is he a WCO fit?

Peter King ? @SI_PeterKing
More reasons to pick up Gaffney: He's 31. Caught 65 and 68 balls in two different offenses last 2 years. Healthy. Cheap.

I think so.

I believe shanahan runs a version of the west coast.

He was also in Philly for a bit.

Do It!
We need Help at the WR position.. probably can get him for a decent price.

He had his best season last year as well. Almost 1000 yards receiving (947) with terrible QB play...and 875 the year before in Denver (875).

He is another slot guy. We need an outside WR.

No thanks.

Gaffney hasn't been great with YAC in his career. And he's only got 1 year in a WCO, and Shanahan's offense is not a prototypical WCO. And, as A&O mentioned, he is more of a slot guy.

I could see us signing Donald Driver if Green Bay releases him. Driver could be a real mentor for some of the younger guys, and he knows the system. But, the only other way I think we bring someone else in is because of injury or because the young kids show absolutely nothing in the OTAs. We are building for 2013 and beyond. This year is about:

Can Hartline take his game to another level in this system, and without Marshall getting 30% of the targets?

Does Bess' lack of speed prevent him from being enough of a playmaker in this offense?

Can Legedu Naanee build off his last two seasons?

Can Clyde Gates contribute in this system?

Can Roberto Wallace, BJ Cunningham, Rishard Matthews, Julius Pruitt, Jeff Fuller, Derek Moye, or Marlon Moore force themselves into the picture?

Other than the leadership Driver would bring, I don't see us bringing in a veteran that will hold back development of the young guys.

Jacoby Jones from the Texans was also released today, isn't he a faster outside guy?

Gates could be our outside guy, and with Bess having an ACL injury a slot guy may be exactly what we need!

Driver and Jones make sense. Well, atleast more sense than Gaffney does.

Just my opinion.

Yeah let's bring in WR's who are cast aside by their former teams because they aren't good enough to start. And while we're at it, let's get rid of our only skill position Pro Bowler on offense.

This offense will be dynamic.

hokie, that makes no sense. we are 6-10. we can't turn our noses up at players cut from other teams, esp playoff teams!!

i was talking about the guy the Texans released, jones. donald drive too. gabney obviously wasn't cut from a good team, but they did sign a bunch of FA WRs so at least they had a reason for cutting him.

Again, in my opinion, none of those 3 make sense. Driver and Jones do make more sense (if any) than Gaffney does.

If Bess is 100% now, then NO. If it looks like the ACL tear is more serious, then I'd consider it.

If he is any good and wants to win this year he will probably want to play for a better team.

As much as i hate to say it.

Wasn't suggesting that we get Welker. Didn't even know he was or is actually available. I just like going around asking the question "Welker?" (See Bess tore ACL post).

I have since we let him go.
