This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
I haven't seen one article, tweet or report on TV where the pundit says we are "talking to" or "have made an offer" to the Vikings for that spot.
All anyone says is "there's a buzz" or "people in the NFL speculate..."
Maybe this happens. Maybe it doesn't.
But right now I think the media is feeding on its own rumor kinda like that old Fox News trick of posting a rumor on its web site and then the TV host says "reports indicate..." 5 minutes later after 100 web sites have run with their original rumor.
You have to take everything with a HUGE grain of salt at this point as a GM, but especially as a fan because often all you get is a rumor that becomes a "fact" as it bounces around the internet.
This is why, if you are a GM, you have a gameplan and you stick to it. You can't make emotional decisions based on rumors, pundits or fan pressure.
If you think Tannehill is the goods and you can afford the price to move up...then do it.
If you don't think he's the goods then don't take him at all.
There was also a "report" yesterday that the Eagles were moving up to #4 to take Tannehill, this report was the biggest smoke screen ever, why would the eagles stop at #4 two weeks before the draft knowing anyone could get #3? And why would they make it known who their intended target was? I don't see Ireland falling for this crap, the dude has shown he's got ice water in his veins when it comes to this stuff.

I'm not so sure.
As you said, they have a lot of money in Vick and they've built a team they think they can win with NOW.
I don't think their plans for world domination are centered around who they add in this draft.
Mike Vick will be 32 in June and he's ALREADY injury prone.
If they moved up for Tannehill they wouldn't have to rush his development and by the time he's ready in 2 or 3 years they will be at or near the end of Vick's contract and will have his replacement ready to go.
I'd agree its not likely but if you really really like a QB and think he'll be your guy for a long time, then its far from asinine. Especially with the new CBA and its rookie salary cap.
eagles have needs on defense and elsewhere they could fill in the draft. as you said this is a cost effective way to fill holes given the new CBA. To trade up for tannehill they'd basically be getting nothing out of this draft except for him. andy reid's got to win it all this year or at least make the sb or he's out of a job. I doubt he wants to spend this draft picking a QB for the next regime.
I hate all of the national "buzz" about us HAVING to trade up to get Tannehill to placate the fans. I don't sense any clamoring at all to draft tannehill at all costs. This kind of BS only benefits teams like the vikes and browns leaving us as the league's patsy yet again

This is the most absurd post I have ever read and I truly am not considering our ongoing animosity towards each other in making that statement.
On the other hand, our front office does stupid things and you always back them ALL THE WAY and come up with reasoning designed to fail.
So, if they think like you, I could see them falling for that bluff.
draft a qb in the first round every year? huh? what team has ever done that? that's the sure fire way to a horrible team. you only play 1 QB and there are only so many practice snaps to get him up to speed. not to mention the cap space spent on your 3d string first round qb and dearth of talent at every other position filled with lower round draftees

I didn't say it was the perfect way to go, I admit its extreme. But out of the two options I listed, it is the one I'd prefer.
As I've said before...you want 24 carat gold you shop at Tiffany's ...not Walmart.

That's a start!
And if he turns out to be Ryan Leaf instead of Peyton Manning, then take one next year as well and move on.

I also don't necessarily agree that we won't have to trade up to get him. There's an excellent possibility that he won't be there at 8. However, as I have been saying, he is too big a question mark to lose too many draft picks to move up.
Yes, continue to draft QBs in the 1st until we finally get our guy.
