supposedly the FS/SS distinction isn't that big in our new D, which sounds to me like the safeties need to be able to cover. That wasn't Bell's strong suit so if the team feels like Jimmy Wilson and the other safeties on the roster can cover better, I am not losing sleep over the move. Bell is pretty old. they still screwed him over by cutting him 1 week into FA, which is a crap thing to do, especially to a D captain.

For everyone that was calling for the owners to "stick it" to the greedy players during the labor strife last year, this is the exact type of player that will suffer under a smaller salary cap, can't pay em all, get used to it.

That article was mainly from Drew Rosenhaus' point of view. This 'it's clear it won 't happen' is from his Agent more than from the Dolphins, right? I wonder if the Dolphins really are willing to re-sign him for less money or if it's the Agent doing what agents do best.

I never understand why tv/radio have rosenhaus on as a commentator. total conflict of interest. everything he says is BS to serve his/his client's needs. if he praises or criticizes someone, there is always a connection to him or one of his clients.
that said I think bell DOES go elsewhere bc I think the team has moved on.

It has got to be because the station thinks they'll have more access to the players that are his clients for interviews, etc.

But of all the sports programming I don't have the time to watch, a show like that is one I have the LEAST time to watch.

Could've been handled a lot better but ultimately i believe the decision was 100% correct. I might be nuts but i actually believe that Reshad Jones could be a real prospect at SS.

Rosenhaus also said that Jimmy Wilson, another of his clients, will be competing for a safety job, not corner. I think this is great news. Wilson is going to be a good player. He plays fast, finds the ball, and is very physical. He will bring speed and coverage ability to the position for us.

Rosenhaus is a local celebrity of sorts, very well connected, he is very flashy and speaks well... THey all beg to talk to him, TV, radio, etc

I said that In another thread. Lesson learned. This is a business. Don't make dumb promises that you might not be able to keep when circumstances change.

As for the move itself I'm on record saying I have no problem with it. 34 year old SS's can be replaced.

So this douchbag move by Mr Douchbag was an isolated incident? eye rolling smiley

Or was it just another straw on the backs of us Dolphins fans? Not going to be able to take much more before our backs break......thumbs down

I generally had management's back on most of the stupid criticism directed against them this offseason (unable to / unwilling to sign Manning, Flynn; releasing Marshall, not overpaying for FA's, etc).

I can see and understand the Bell decision as well (we will see how it plays out in the long term). I would not call the FO "douchebags" for most of these actions, with the exception of one: the timing of Bell's release.

If cutting him at the beginning of the FA period would have given Bell a better chance to sign with another team, it should have been done -- even if that team might be a division rival. The only explanation I have seen re. the timing was speculation that it made it less likely for the Pats or Jets to ink him to a deal.

Can anyone confirm with any level of certainty that the above factor was the motivation for the timing of the cut?

That very well may be true IN THE ABSTRACT, but he was the best we had and contributed a lot to the team in a weak area.

I for one don't think its a real big deal that they waited a week.
- If a team wanted a top notch SS,(one going early on in FA) they are probably NOT going after an older Bell type player any more than they would a week later.

I'm thinking the FO felt if they waited they may have had a better chance to sign him at a decent price after the draft plays out.

IMHO the rest of the teams looking to sign him are thinking the same thing ... after the draft at an affordable price.

Bell is a vet, and knows the game ... posting and flaming that he got dissed is just fodder for bad feelings, when this was just business under a salary cap and perhaps some play on the new defensive skill set foreseen by the new coaching staff

- I don't care for slamming our GM for every decision they make as some personal assault on the players.

- I'm saying we have as much a chance at resigning him as not

... Drew rosenhaus is a medaia whore, and is always all about his own interest ... duh what would you expect him to say?

- Same story when he was pedaling Terrel Owen's worth and value despite his antics, and poison to team locker rooms.

No...clearly not an isolated incident. Its merely the "logical" and "obvious" final step in a progression that began with Ireland being the 2nd shooter on the grass knoll in Dallas, the spotter for James Earl Ray in Memphis, and the woman in the polka dot dress in that kitchen in LA. I'm also pretty sure he's responsible for the demise of America and the near collapse of our economic system and I KNOW he's responsible for Obama being elected.

All of it a CLEAR history of douchebaggery leading up to Dan Marino's dismissal, the hiring of Wannstedt and Saban and Cameron, and culminating with the cutting of a 34 year old SS who can't cover a couch at this stage in his career.

thumbs up

do some research. Look at his moves from the beginning of the 2010 off-season to now. tell me where he's been half as bad as you make him out to be.

Yes...I know...he gets all the blame and none of the credit for every bad move his boss made...but lets take that out of the equation for now since neither of us can say for sure whose fingerprints are on which move.

Lets judge him on what we know he's responsible for. I have no idea how it will work out but I'll get you started:

Good move: Trade for Reggie Bush for special teamer and swap of 6th round picks.

Bad move (from your perspective at least): trading up for Daniel Thomas and not drafting Ryan Mallett.

....go get 'em

The pats looked at him and didn't sign him. So did the Jets.

The Eagles apparently believe "he is done".

If the pats passed on him he must be more done than i thought he was.

The fact that he has remained unsigned should tell you something. No one wants him unless it for the vet minimum.
