The Fins are renegotiating Jake Long's contract. Miami is looking to make some cap space. However, it is reported that Miami will have to make Long the highest paid OT in the league, surpassing Joe Thomas' ridiculous contract.

Would Miami also be thinking of trading him? He has been injured quite a lot the last couple of years. If they did, he should bring pretty good value.

You're telling me they're going to RAISE his salary...then try to trade him? How's THAT going to work?

when your highest paid player is an OL, you are in trouble. Just look at the Browns. How is it we have no cap space again?

Long is NOT WORTH 25% of the cap (or whatever high percentage it turns out to be). End of story. Drafting him was a mistake and we don't need that kind of money on a player who is already on downside. My opinion of course.

Oh yea, I can hear it already. He's a pro bowl so-and-so blah blah. But his game is only going down, not up. I suspect some "drug enhancement" issues and of course his body is breaking down.

If he's willing to sign for a realistic number than keep him. If not we need to make plans and move on.

BNF.

I'd love to trade him but his injury history and $$ makes it impossible, unless we don't accept value in return. He's a cap albatross

BNF, 25 percent of the Cap? where did you get that number? I think 1/3 of that.... between 8-9 percent.. If he plays like the best LT in the league he worth that number...Last year, he had his worst year.. if he continues to decline then we have a problem, but I would expect him to bounce back...Even in Jakes worst year he was still a top 4 LT...
