if browns take tannehill at 4 (doubt it) it will push a top player down to us. doubt blackmon however, rams would take him at 6. but that's why we shouldn't even think about trading up for tannehill (one reason of many)

Drafting Blackmon goes against everything the WCO stands for.

I hear ya A&O, as I said I can only dream, we need a #1 reciever, and I like Blackmons game... I realize like Berk, that either the Rams or Cleveland are likely to pick him and we will not have a shot at him either way... but I think we would be successful in a Dolphns uniform next year..

There is no such thing as a #1 WR in Philbin's system, so no, we don't need one.

How do u know what Philbin system is going to be, He has clearly stated that he is not just copying the Green Bay playbook.. And secondly there has been #1 recievers in the west coast offense's before in the past.... So I dont understand what you are saying?

Jon Gruden a WCO coach, while at Tampa Bay with Keyshawn Johnson went on to win a Superbowl with his #1 reciever and his West Coast Offense...
I am pretty sure Gruden in his west coast offense in Oakland like his number 1 reciever Tim Brown

We'd be the biggest fools in history not to take Justin Blackmon at number 8 with Brandon Marshall having been traded.

I know some of you QB crazy folks are gonna scream about Tannehill but in this conversation, we are saying that Tannehill went at no. 4 to Cleveland so stay out of this conversation.

Berk, I never said Blackmon wasnt meant for the WCO. I said drafting a receiver that high goes against everything the WCO stands for.

Listen, Blackmon is awesome, best WR in the draft hands down. I'm not stupid. I just think there is ZERO chance we take him, even f he is on the board at #8. I think we would trade down.

But I was thinking. I am pretty sure that a lot of the all time greats were drafted a year after there star WR was.

Aikman after Irvin, Manning after Harrison. Pretty sure there are more.

I'd rather have Floyd because he's faster and is a better fit for the WCO...JMO.

Do you guys even know who Floyd is???

Obviously not, the guy is a serious diva with character concerns.

Of every player in the draft, I MEAN EVERY SINGLE PLAYER, Floyd would b the last player they would draft.

Blackmon is the real deal and a leader.

Yeah, but since we're so desperate for a QB that we have lost our COMMON SENSE, most people on this board would say, "Even so, let's take Tannehill at no. 8" [and hold our breath that he really is NOT what he actually was, and that is a back-up to someone named Jerrod Johnson at Texas A & M].

If Blackmon is available at #8 and we don't take him we r fools...

Truth is, a talent like Blackmon will not last till 8# ...

The only way he slips is if Cleveland bites on tannehill and takes him at 4#

Check out this scenario...

We draft blackmon at 8# and weedon 2nd round.

What a tandem!

That would be awesome!

Weedon,Blackmon and bush....pick your poison!

After reading another thread, KB is right. Ross is a cheap SOB. I doubt this team will draft a skill position player in the 1st round, so don't get your hopes up everyone.

A&O Yes I do know who Floyd is...and I stand by my belief tht he's a better fit for the WCO due to his skill set. I don't have a problem with Blackmon and will be happy if we take him even though I don't thinks as good a fit skill wise...but he won't be there at #8 anyway.

Just like if we take Blackmon and later add Wheeden it won't be the end of the world for me even though I like Tannehill better.

> A & O and others: I'm not picking on anyone ... just want to respond to this myth about WCO floating around:
"Berk, I never said Blackmon wasnt meant for the WCO. I said drafting a receiver that high goes against everything the WCO stands for."

*********
I think you guys read too much into the talk going around about elite WRs not being a good thing for WCO.

Yes its true theat the WCO spreads the ball around, and yes you need wrs that can be team players and not lose their mind over that.

** It is however critical to have an elite WR when you get to the red zone, someone who can get separation in a small field.

** It is also critical to have that elite WR that can stretch the field and pull double coverage to open up the other pass receivers to keep the chains moving, and to occassionally get the home run.

** It is totally not true that WCO only needs second class receivers. Because they don't get the ball all the time, a team still needs the elite receivers that can get open when its tough, and okay with the ego thing when the ball gets spread around.

BTW - In my book a talented team player receiver is much more elite than one who HAS to HAVE IT ALLL the time. Those guys make the team predictable for the defense and reduces the effectiveness of the team.
WCO has to have someone that scares the defense to be effective!

I thought Floyd's character concerns were just related to his double DUIs' from his first 2 years in college.
Does he have a bad reputation outside of the DUI stuff... He has done well since them. If DUI is the only issue, I wouldnt be overly concerned, for he has been in treatment for while and hasnt messed up...... Do you know how many college football players drive drunk....no excuse but still valid point, that half the players in the draft with a little bad luck could have at least one...
Granted not alot get 2 DUI's, but I am not sure that is enough to completely write him off...
I never heard the Diva stuff...but I dont follow Notre Dame football to closely...
What else has he been accused of?

2 DUI's in 3 years is major for an underage kid.

I think blackman is a volume WR. Meaning he is the same guy as brandon marshall as far as skill set. He is not explosive and requires lots of catches to reach 100 yards. Last i checked we traded marshall for a bag of skittles and a 2 liter coca cola. That being said I dont think we will then turn around and draft the same guy.

Floyd is very explosive and an absolute beast and in my eyes better than blackmon. However there are soooo many talented wr in the draft there is not much drop off with the top 4 or maybe 5 guys. You can get first round talent in the middle of the second. That being said if floyd is there we need to get him.

Look at guys said to have character issues, R. Moss, D. Jackson, T.O, C. Johnson, the list goes on, guys with "Diva" attitudes are guys that want the ball in big moments and are guy I would draft any day. Name me a "Diva" that did not have lights out talent and showed up big in big moments. nuff said.

Also the reporters have their point of views on players...

Last i remember there was one saying how john beck was going to be really good in the NFL.

They comment on so many players that they hit on some as well. I mean...If you comment on 100 players and say they are all going to be good you haave to hit on some right.

Nobody knows jack.

I Nominate The Real Deal Tannehill For President.....The Next MONTANA-ELWAY-MARINO-AIKMAN- YOUNG-UNITAS Clone( in no particular order )
