I just think he's biased towards born-and-bred Texas players. But again, to me the biggest thing Tannehill has going for him is that Brandt likes him

Hey Berk, read my last post (kind of long) but it might make you feel a little better about Tannehill.

A&O-
The Guy tried out for QB under Sherman in 2008, he finshed last in the competition and was moved to reciever. He played there all of 2008 and 2009 and half of 2010. He got reps as a receiver, although he still tried out for QB each year, he didnt get the job and didnt get the practice reps... Then due to the starter being ineffective, Tannehill got the chance and played well...
As I said he played the first 2.5 years in college as WR. After failing to get the QB job... He actually led the team in receptions in 2009 as a WR... That was his job and where he practiced everday not under center. He wasnt good enough to even justify the reps for 2.5 years... SO dont tell me to stop it... It is reality..Whether you want to accept it or not...

I'm just not drinking this guy's cool aid. I am still for getting DeCastro at #1 and Kirk Cousins at #2.

He beat out Jerrod Johnson half way through the season, who at the time was a Heisman hopeful.

Come on, Crowder.

You are making yourself look like Mia1 right now. Just stop while you are ahead.

I told you about Mike Pouncey last year when nobody wanted a Center at #15. I told everybody about Vontae the year before that. In 2007, I was the only one (albeit a bad call) the *ONLY* one on this board who said Ted Ginn would be the pick.

Crowder, just listen to me, bud. Just calm down and listen.

Really dumb, that is your response... The guy caught 55 passes for 844 yards after he was redshirted. Then the next year, he caught 46 receptions for 609 yards... He had 9 receiving TD's during that time... He only took snaps as QB during half of his junior season and his senior season... He was redshirted, then played WR until he was 22 or so. And played QB for 1.5 years... Why does that make me dumb?

BTW, I was also saying Cam Newton would be ROY and Ryan Mallett would be a bust.

Look to be right on the money with that too.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Well, disagreeing with me doesnt at all make you dumb. I am not paid to do this, and probably never will.

But, Gil Brandt, Mike Mayock, Russ Lande, Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, and all the other scouts who say Tannehill is the real deal, well...you a disagreeing with them.

And since this is a free country, you have the right too. But, you also have the right to be made to look like a bafoon when proven wrong.

Just like the people who say Ryan Mallett was going to be a star...ahem, wont mention any names.

BTW, sorry about calling you dumb. You are not. You are my friend on this board and I respect you. Sorry about that.

I was the first one on this board to guarantee Newton, you can ask BNF about that, but I agree you are good and were on the newton train early, but I am not as high on Tannehill as you or others... no big deal
HE is raw

Now, I agree that he is raw. He does need some polishing up.

And again, I respect you and everyone else's opinion on here whether I agree or not.

But, I think Tannehill is a more atheletic Ben Roethlisberger.

If we do draft him, the fact that you are so high on him well tide me over and give him a legit shot... I just hope the pick is somewhere else...If he was a second rd guy, ok, I just dont see how he can be rated so high with such limited reps in college...

With that being said, Ben Roethlisberger was extremely raw coming out of Miami of Ohio, too.

Well bud, I think if he is the pick, you will be happy in the end. I think he is going to make a fan base happy wherever he goes.

Now, I could be wrong. I wasnt real high on him a few months back, but I just finished watching every game of his QB career. Gil Brandt's comments made me go back and watch his games.

Yes, he made mistakes. But, he made crazy plays that only elite guys can. He needs some refining, but I think he will prove to be the real deal.

It does. I am on board if we take him at 8. Still don't want to trade up for him though. If CLE takes him at 4, Richardson, Blackmon, or Clairborne will be there at 8, who we can take or trade down for more picks.

The thing about Tannehill is that I don't want to get my hopes up that we can actually get him. Cleveland is a real problem. You have Holmgren calling the shots. And Mike Sherman came up under Holmgren. So, Holmgren likely knows all about Tannehill from Sherman. And he knows that Tannehill knows Sherman's offense, which is what Holmgren likes for an offense.

They can go a few ways. They have issues at WR. They could commit to McCoy, and use that #4 pick to get Blackmon for him. Or, they could choose to cut bait on McCoy and grab Tannehill. With our luck, they will take Tannehill. And we will be trying to groom some 3rd round pick for the next few years.

The games that Texas A&M lost last year? They gave up 30, 42, 38, 41, 53, and 27 points in those games. Hmmm, maybe their defense sucked? It's just a guess, when you give up that many points, you are usually going to lose. Ask Dan Marino about that. And how about the 64 dropped passes by his receivers in 2011? 64! Think maybe those made a bit of a difference? Say it had just been 32 drops. That would have put his completion % at 68, and put him over 4000 yards passing.

When he took over in 2010, they went 6-1 after a 3-3 start.

It is easy to look at his team in 2011 and think they didn't win enough. But, QBs get too much credit when a team wins, and too much blame when a team loses. It's true in the pros, and even more true in college. Sometimes, a college team can really be lacking in talent. You have to take W-L records with a grain of salt.

You cannot overemphasize how important it is that he played in a pro offense for a pro coach. That gives him a huge advantage in making the transition to the NFL. Yes, he lacks game experience. But, no one here who wanted Matt Flynn should make one peep about this. Tannehill has started more football games at QB in the last two years than Matt Flynn has in the last 9 years combined. Tannehill's lack of game experience means he will have stuff to learn, and need to time to adjust. But, most college QBs have to learn a whole new offensive system with different route trees and terminology. If Tannehill comes to Miami, he won't have to worry about that stuff. From an experience standpoint, RG3 is more ready to play. But, from a system standpoint, Tannehill is more ready to play.

It will be a long time before Miami is in the position to draft the best QB in the draft, that franchise, can't miss guy. So, they have to take their chances on the 3rd best QB in the draft and keep on drafting QBs until they get it right.

Saying all that, I personally have not watched Tannehill during his time at A&M, so I can only go by what all the "experts" say.

Here is what was said about Tannehill from "NFL Draft 2012 by USA Today":

STRENGTHS: Tannehill is a good blend of arm strength and accuracy and has a nice release. Mobility in the pocket is good. Throws well on the run. Excels on timing routes.
WEAKNESSES: His release point can be inconsistent. Has a tendency to float deep passes, especially when the receiver is outside the numbers. Struggles to pick up disguised blitzes after the snap. Started at QB for only a season and a half at A&M after playing wide receiver to begin his career.

2010: 1,638 yds, 152-234, 65% completion, 13 TDs, 6 ints.
2011: 3,744 yds, 327-531, 62% completion, 29 TDs, 15 ints.

Well, Crowder, I may be wrong, but I believe when the college previews first came out, Tannehill was considered to be a 2nd round pick. However, looking at all the other QBs in the draft and the position need for quite a few NFL teams, he moved up quickly.

IMO, the experts went back and looked at tape of Tannehill, and judged him on his play, not his lack of college starting QB experience.

Thus, he is now the 3rd best QB in the draft.

If Miami waits until the 2nd round to draft a QB, then they will be drafting the 3rd tier QBs.
