Going into this offseason, I figured we'd solve our QB problem in FA (Manning or Flynn) and probably sign another impact player leaving us with just a few specific "needs" to fill in the draft. Now we have no QB, no #1 WR, same issue on OL and pass rusher, and didn't sign anyone to a big time need position (solia and marshall are nice players, but come on).
We've got way more needs than we can fill in this one draft, so what are the biggest ones? Leaving QB aside b/c that goes without saying.
I still say we need an impact pass rusher, which is why (unless Tennehill is there and they feel they MUST take him at 8) I hope we take Melvin Ingram. Put him opposite Wake and I think he could be a beast. Next biggest need is a WR/seam TE, which I expect to take 2 out of our 3 2d/3d round sections. Later on take RT or RG, or hope to sign one on the cheap later.
With the re-signing of Soliai, it means Odrick is a full time player at DE opposite Wake. And Jamaal Westerman is the main backup. And if we are truly in a 4-3, then Dansby and Burnett are both playing outside. Soliai had a domino effect that means a pressure player could be taken at a later spot in the draft.

Odrick is a 3-4 DE. I'm still not convinced he can be a 4-3 DE.

Which means we need a MLB.

Oddly enough, Soliai doesn't fit as a 4-3 DT. He's a NT. That's what he is.
My problem is I want at least 3 choices at 3 levels of priority...
1a: Lady killer DE/OLB
1b: QB
1c: OT
2a: WR
2b: OG
2c: TE
3a: S
3b: ILB
3c: CB
It's a deep draft for OL and WR so we should leverage that.
QB @#8 is hard to justify based on Tannehill or Weeden. Seemingly more likely to go DE or OT in pure value terms if we stay at 8. But the FO may be “forced” to take a QB at the risk of a total fan revolt!
I would say this; if I knew we could trade down somewhere around 16-22 (+ R2 pick in exchange) and get Weeden in R2 I’d do that for sure -- unless we’re somehow so absolutely sold on Tannehill?
OT QB and Lady killer are all critical.
WR and OG are essential needs to move this team forward.
TE is thin in this draft and they may take a project late (for example, Josh Chichester)
Trade down example:
Melvin Ingram or Nick Perry R1
Brandon Weeden R2
Levy Adcock R2

disagree. We've got 3 solid starters (Long, Incog, Pouncy) and a few players who can adequately hold down RG and RT (Murtha, Gardner, Jerry) and we can probably also bring in a vet or 2.
what do we have at WR? A bunch of average #2 types.
what do we have as a pass rusher besides Wake? nothing.
this team's obsession with pouring big-time resources into the OL at the expense of the rest of the team is a main reason we are in this mess.
Luke Kechley (sp?) sounds like a sure thing Pat Willis type MLB. Probabyl the surest thing in the draft at a position of need for us. But #8 is too high for him given the nature of the position.
It really sucks that we are picking 8 in a draft with 6 or 7 elite prospects. Why is this always the case? Man that win against the bills last year felt so good----much better than picking #4 or #5 overall and probably winding up with RG3 in a trade up! So happy for the meaningless run of wins at the end of the season....
saw something on twitter about how last 20 SB OLs did not have one player picked in the top 15, and how we have 2 players (Long #1 overall, Pouncy #15). And talk of maybe taking someone at #8? Complete misuse of resources. We need to be taking "impact" players that high----QB, WR, pass rusher

Makes me real confident in our ablity to defend against Tebow and the Wildcat next year.
1) Offensive Line, specifically RT and Guard (Murtha?)
2) #1 Reciever, we have to replace 1200 yards of recieving
3) OLB (Who is gonna play opposite Wake)
4) Safety
5) MLB, these guys had issues getting off blocks consistently last year, Dansby had health issues, Burnett, was hot and real cold at times.... Will Koa Misi, play well in this postion
Strongest part of our team IMO, the front 4
Starks, Odrick, Solia, MCdaniels, Merling, Baker,
I think SOlia will be also used in the 4-3 as a DT. He played this postions sometimes last year, when the play could be either pass or run... But a heavy push into the backfield was our intent...
A&O, yeah if Justin Blackmon was at 8, I would have a hard time passing on him... Replacing Marshall is important for whoever is under center for us... But protecting him comes in a close second
Our WR core is so pathetic, that I doubt 1 WR does the trick. And I am speaking pathetic because in the WCO, as Mark has mentioned, GB had 7 WR's with atleast 25 catches last season.
I like Blackmon similar style game as Marshall.... Big target, tough, hard to tackle. Great yards after the catch.... I am also anxious to see Edmund Gates in his second year of development and in a west coast offense... Hartline and Bess i think will do well in a WCO... Marlon Moore, Pruitt, and Roberto Wallace are question marks but i wouldnt right off any of them...
We gave Lydon Murtha $2M. Like it or not, he is the likely RT. Hicks also got $2M. Somehow, between Murtha, Hicks, Jerry, and Garner, that will be the right side of the line.
Considering how deep the draft is at WR, I think we will take two between the 2nd and 4th rounds. And we'll be looking for different types than Marshall. We need quicker guys who can get in and out of breaks while running precise routes. Finding rookie WRs who contribute a lot is not easy. But, Marshall's receiving yards will be spread over every one else. One guy doesn't have to pick up the slack. Both Bess and Hartline saw their targets drop dramatically when Moore became the QB. Those guys can pick up some of the slack themselves.
You can never have enough pass rushers. So, a pressure player is important. But, that player won't start as a rookie. And rookie pass rushers are also very hard to find. They take time to develop, for most prospects anyway.
MLB is a need. LB is a need in general. Dansby will not be on the team beyond this season. His guaranteed money is up after this year, and he will be a cap casualty.
We need a FS, unless that is Marshall or Wilson.
And we need a CB. If Sean Smith plays like he did last year, he won't be re-signed for 2013.
When Philbin addressed the Dolphins' alumni, which was before free agency, he cited O-Line, pass rushers, and secondary help as the primary needs.
Dude, seriously. Nice work. I'm with you, he has Dolphin written all over him. People need to not forget, we just hired Iowa's O-Coordinator as our QB Coach.

now if we could move down a few spots, and end up with fleener and mcnutt and weedon in this draft, and spend the rest on pass rush and maybe OL, I'd say a very successful haul!
that would be a major step forward for the offense.

Ditto. The other guy that I think fits their mold is Mohamed Sanu. I would be thrilled if we managed to get 2 of those 3.
1 Fleener (Won't get past harbaugh or Giants)
2 Tannehill or weeden
2 Jeffery or Sanu
3 Curry or Irvin
3 Givens or Streeter
4 Harrison Smith George Lloka, Markele Martin or Antonio Allen

The problem is, berk, that a great container with a small leak is little better than no container at all.
