Now that, I dont disagree with. But I believe Matt Flynn is not here because Philbin is wishy- washy on him being a starting QB.
A and o. Stop giving them any credit. There is no master plan with this group. Just a series of failing to close the deal on their identified targets. They have done nothing to demonstrate otherwise
Seattle is paying Flynn almost $9M per year. He is getting paid what Aaron Rodgers is getting paid. That is insane to make that commitment to a guy like Flynn.
Again, he has started 16 football games in the last 9 years (I thought it was 8 earlier, but he redshirted a year). He was a 7th round draft pick.
When Joe Rose asked Dan Marino about Flynn, Marino said, "Why isn't he starting for someone?" Rose said, "well, he's behind Aaron Rodgers." To which Marino replied, "Why? Why was he a 7th round draft pick? Why hasn't some other team traded for him?"
As I mentioned in another thread, in the last week, Rich Gannon, Kurt Warner, and Jim Miller have all expressed doubts about Flynn's upside.
This is not the end of the world. We lost out on a lottery ticket. That's it. And again, the track record of these guys with no experience succeeding is very poor. AJ Feeley? Rob Johnson? And the track record of one year college starters and 7th round picks is even worse.
Would you rather risk $27M on Flynn, or $12M on Tannehill? Tannehill is younger, has more physical tools, has more actual playing experience, is incredibly smart, and knows the offense. Tannehill has much more upside.
Assuming that Ireland and Philbin aren't completely insane (something that judging by the posts here most won't grant me), I have to believe that they thought the QB options in the draft had a bigger upside than Flynn. Tannehill, Weeden, Coleman, Cousins, etc. I really doubt that we sign Alex Smith who will certainly want more money than Flynn got. I can't see signing Garrard either (unless its to back up Moore). I think what we're about to see is a rookie QB behind Moore and/or Garrard with the idea of Philbin developing him as our QB. Hell, who knows, maybe Philbin thinks Moore is the best option... I'm going to wait and see what happens in the draft before I make any conclusions about the offseason.
Actually it's Flynn calling the shots...his opinion is the ONLY one that matters.
You guy's that are assuming the front office screwed this up crack me up...because we don't know what was offered, and we also don't know what the inner circle thought of him either.
I say we go into 2012 with Moore starting and we draft Tannehill, and Maybe even Wheeden too. I'd be all for doubling up on QB's in the draft this year because it would give us two very promising guys to move forward with. We can find more WR's in the third round.

I am fine with passing on Flynn. Given that Philbin was involved, I would trust this call (whichever way it went) to be good for the team. We will know for sure by the middle of the coming season.
I love the way that the sports media and the part of the fan base with less-than-stellar analytical skills is now screaming "WHAT IS WRONG WITH US NOW A BACKUP QUARTERBACK HAS SPURNED US, PHILBIN HAS BEEN BEGGING FLYNN ON HIS KNEES, HE WOULD STILL NOT COME, WE HAVE LEPROSY, THE SKY IS FALLING WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWAAAAAWWAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
All the dickheads, douchebags, troglodytes, halfwits and borderline personality types are singing the same song... invariably without one shred of fact or even 2nd grade level analysis thrown into the mix.
For one, I think the way to find success going forward is to implement a stellar system on offense and defense, recruit the right players at the right price, and drive for VALUE at every transaction, whether in FA or the draft. We have to learn to play Moneyball in the NFL. Look at the teams that seem to be dead-set aligned with this approach: the Patriots and the Packers. They are not just thriving now, but will continue to find success.
I do not know the inside story and the master plan of the Phins front office, but from what I have seen so far in FA, I will give Ireland a cautious vote of confidence.

Good news is there will be plenty of Tickets available for next season! I think I paid on Average $55 a ticket and that included lunch and transportation! This year It will probably be around $50.........
